My mom has a car charger for her old Motorola Razr and it uses the same mini-USB plug that our phone uses. I was wondering if this would work in charging my Eris or will it just destroy the battery?

My phone was dying so i charged it. Plug it in, 30 mins past so i went to check on it.
So i looked at it and battery is still red. And i am wonder what the heck. Everything is plug in where it should be.
Low and behold the chord connecting at the mini usb well let's just say the casing is ripping apart and the wire is exposed. I've had this phone for 3 weeks and this happens.
Verizon better give me a new charger. Also i've notice i always get Sense UI force closed and other apps force closed but if i close and start again it works.
so i normally charge my battery with a USB cable while tethered to the computer. So i get this message "Battery Fully Charged, Remove Charger From Phone". QUESTION: Doesnt the phone know when to stop charging or does it just keep on charging? The phone doesnt feel hot but i dont want to fry the battery.

I am pretty efficient on my X not really used to the HTC sense (last HTC phone i had was the Eris). Any tips to help him get better battery life? When you plug it in the phone says charging, and the red light on the adapter goes on when plugged in, but the battery percentage only decreases over time and the little light on the left that normally goes on does not. Has this happened to anyone before? I switched out the USB cable but it's still not charging. The next obvious idea is to buy a new charger but wanted to see if anyone had any other ideas before I did. Also, if need be, anyone know of cheap places online to buy one?

left my phone on my car charger after I got home for about an hour, when I took it off it was burning hot.. looked in system app (thank you OTD) and it said my temperature was 110 degrees farenheit. I'm not familiar with the normal operation temperature so I don't know if this is off the charts or just above normal.

It came rooted with the XTRsense rom, overclocked, apps2sd, etc. The phone runs great and the battery life seems decent, however, it won't charge. When I plug it in, the battery icon shows that it's charging, but when I unplug it, the battery is still at the same percentage. I left it charging overnight last night, and it was still at like 40% life this morning. Any ideas as to what could be causing this? If it's hardware related, I don't mind popping it open if it saves me from dealing with the hassle of returning this phone and going back to my Storm.

I managed to get it a high enough charge to hold out, but it died by the time I was in my house and hooked it up to the charged. The Amber LED is not lighting up like it is charging, which has me worried. I have switched between different USB cables, and also from the wall to a USB. Is it normal for the LED to not light up if the battery is absolutely drained? Also, any USB mini cable should work, correct?

An hour later my phone shuts off and wouldn't power back on. Red led was blinking for about five minutes then the phone powered itself back on. I checked osmonitor and it showed my battery at 0% and battery temp at 140f. Will the battery not charge if your using this phone or is my charger bad?

I thought these apps running in the background (chat apps) were supposed to destroy battery? I leave this thing on nearly 8 hours a day, and hardly see any battery drain.
