What is the best (easiest) way to install an .apk file on the Epic? I took Gary's offer for a free "paid version" of the xScope browser to all Android Forum users but have never tried to install an apk file before.

I have not been able to play avi files that I copied from my canon digital camera on my epic. Finally found a free video player called arcMedia which plays avi files, but the video quality is completely messed up. I read about Handbrake software using which we can convert avi files into mp4 files. But I have a huge collection of avi files and d not want to be converting every single avi file so I can play it on my epic. I also tried finding Rockplayer in android marketplace, but could not find it from my epic phone.

Whenever I download a zip file it always tells me the archive is corrupted...doesn't matter what app I use to view it...tried using Astro and a free zip viewer app but the archives are incomplete...and when I try to send it to my pc to open it I get the same problem.
Guessing the browser is downloading zip files incorrectly?

How do you install a file that is not an update.zip file from your SD card? I booted into recovery and their is no option for apply ROM from SD or anything like that. Do you have to rename all your files to update.zip to run them. I only have 4 options in the recovery screen it there another recovery screen with more options? I'm running clockwork 2.5

View 1 Replies View RelatedThis app is just like Google Maps but instead of traffic shows you 4G on a very detailed scale. It's based off reports from other people running the app and helped me find a location 4 blocks away that had reported 4G. I walked over and got 2Mbps down on the SpeedTest.net app. I live in NYC and 4G is not official here yet so this was a great surprise. Look for "4G MapViewer" on the Market and grab it! You might find a location nearby and it will help everyone else!
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to apply the update in the system recovery screen i go to apply sdcard:update.zip and push the home capacitive button. It brings up a progress bar and about halfway through it gives me an error. Im assuming I accidentily deleted this BuddiesNow file after I rooted the phone. I tried hard reset and factory reset but neither of these fixed it. Is there a way to download or install this BuddiesNow.odex? I didn't back up the file.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have an Epic 4G through Sprint.I am a DJ and I like to listen to other DJ's mixes that are hosted online. I guess they are kinda like podcasts but only audio. An example is a site called PodOMatic. Another is called Soundcloud and another is Mixcrate.com.If I follow a DJ's link to their upload on my PC, I can listen to the full mix. Sometimes I will even download the mix and listen to the mp3 file on a mp3 player or something.Now, If I follow a link on my phone, I can not listen. The player (java? flash?) will not even show. Soundcloud is the only site that seems to work, but I only get to listen to a couple minutes of the song.Is there a way to stream these types of files through my phone? Can I download the files to my phone, then listen later? Surely there is an app for this?

View 1 Replies View Related1) I am using Eclipse IDE and Android SDK 2.1 for my application. My application reads some data files from the File System, so using DDMS i push all the files in "/data/data/com.mypackage/" folder and run my application on emulator. I am able to see my desired output properly on the emulator.
2) Now i have Android device and i don't know how to push the files in the Internal memory of the phone. I have installed driver CD. But it only shows me the SD card directory.
3) Actually what i want is that the moment my application is installed and run it should read the data files from the file system. So there should be no added efforts to push the files in the file system.
4)Means can i pack my data files with my .apk file and when the apk is getting installed can the data files be placed directly in the internal memory(file system) i.e. "/data/data/com.mypackage/" folder. Is this possible ?
I have an ATT Captivate Galaxy S...when using Astro to install my APK files...it tells me its not from the market and to protect me blah blah blah...is there a workaround option to force it to install? I heard ATT removed that option

View 3 Replies View RelatedI didn't worry about it till today. but i was useing my phone while it was charging. but it got pretty hot today. enough for me to go download a app to see the temp of the battery. it said like 108? and right before i took at battery 118? idk if its right but it was pretty hot. and i am sure its not good if its getting that hot. i was listening music through blue-tooth, on the internet with wifi and thats it really. i put it in the fridge for 5 mins hope that wont hurt it but i need help and what should i do to stop this? please let me know. im using the charger that came with it. it was got warm when i charge before but i dont think this much.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI've been through three different car mounts so far, they of the "universal" variety... one with rubber side clamps, one padded, both with feet underneath... none of them were to my liking... didn't hold my Epic well enough, either fell out (thankfully while I was monitoring it) or felt like it could if I hit too big a bump. My question is if anyone has found a really good car mount yet, specifically for the Epic preferably? I prefer a windshield mount, but I'm willing to consider other options if it's sturdy and I can position it decently in my car.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI had pretty bad battery life today, took off the charger at 11:30, just plugged in at 15% 11 hours later, with a short charge in the car on the way to a late lunch. No text messages, no emails, no phone calls . I got a few apps off the market, did a little web surfing, & watched one 4 minute youtube video. This is my first Android phone, I had a HTC Touch Pro before this. BTW - The lack of comms today is because I'm not working right now, but in the middle of federal hiring process with the next appointment on the 13th, wish me luck. Bluetooth, GPS, and wifi are always off. Screen brightness is left at the lowest level. This is all shown with the Power Control widget on a home screen. I also have the Samsung Program Monitor widget on the same screen, and nothing stays running. Auto sync is always off, I rarely actually use gmail. The stock email app is set to check two other email accounts every hour.
I tried a little test, but just don't know what to make of it. I have Battery Monitor and Android Manager Free installed. Whenever I mention Task Manager, I accessed it through AMF. Before beginning, I removed the Weather Channel widget from the home screen and terminated the app in the Task Manager. I had installed a BBC news app today, but uninstalled before testing; it automatically updated a couple times today and showed up in Task Manager after I terminated it. I made sure Background Data was turned off, I generally only turn it back on when I launch the Market (gives a popup saying it needs it). I plugged the charger in with the phone at 26% charge, just for a minute to reset the last time unplugged. Using Battery Monitor (which apparently just shortcuts to the built-in Android battery monitoring screens found through Settings) I checked the status periodically, along with seeing what was active in Task Manager. Every 5 to 10 minutes I would press the power button to turn on the display, then check Battery history - Since last unplugged. I'd check the Task Manager, terminate Battery Monitor and AMF, then press the power button to turn the screen off............
I just got my new epic a few days ago.Coming from a Black Berry this is a new world for me.Can you guys suggest must have apps?

However I really wanted to use this phone with Virgin Mobile with their *Beyond the Talk plan, has anyone successfully unlocked a Splint Epic 4G?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've tried looking at the videos and pics, but I am unable to see if there is a Tab key. The Tab key is very nice for completing online forms and logins. The original Touch Pro had this key, but they ditched it on the 2nd version.
Anyone know about this yet? Or does Android have another way for tabbing?
I upgraded from a Samsung Exclaim to a Epic via Sprint (Obviously, lol) I put the sd card from the old phone into the new one and put the pics onto my desktop. They're in a format called jpg.md I can't put them on the new phone. I've googled, and contacted Samsung, neither of which has helped. Any suggestions?

Fortunately the reboot time is very fast, but of all the bugs to possibly run into on any cell phone, the scariest is the idea of dropping calls. I am convinced this may be a software glitch that will get fixed with an update.
