I have the external speaker (the one on the bottom rear of the phone) volume set to MAX but for use as hands free in the car, I found the volume to be tinny and not nearly loud enough. My guess is that there aren't any settings I'm missing.

Does anyone else get bad quality at medium to higher volumes through normal calls (not speakerphone). Anything over two notches from muted gives me a wierd vibrating noise when the other end is talking semi high pitched and consistently. It sounds almost robotic or like paper. I didnt know if this was just my phone, the majority, or all epics suffer from this problem.
View 4 Replies View RelatedTo those that have gotten the incredible early (lucky bastards!), how is the sound quality and volume through the headphone jack? i currently have a moto droid and might switch to the incredible. one concern is the output through the headphone jack. the droid is very quiet through the headphone jack and before the 2.0.1 update had a terrible crackle on the left channel. does the incredible sound good through the headphone jack? any crackle at higher volumes? does it get loud? really loud?

View 2 Replies View RelatedDuring a video hangout, the audio randomly switches from "speakerphone" mode to handset mode. The video itself is fine. The other person's audio will get really quiet because it's coming from the handset speaker, and they will complain that they can't hear me anymore.
After this happens, I can manually hit the speaker button and choose the option to use the Speaker rather than Handset mode, and the problem fixes itself. However, the fix usually lasts less than a couple minutes. Within 1-3 minutes it will change back to handset mode. This happens even if the phone is sitting down on the table during the hangout and I'm not interacting with it and there's no chance for me to inadvertently press a button or cover up the proximity sensor.
I'm using an EVO LTE with a stock ROM w/ root if matters.
So I've been on the fence regarding the Epic or Evo for awhile now and have been going back and forth. Overall, I think the specs of the Epic win-out but the support (both HTC and community) for Evo is far superior. All of the debates about hardware and I havn't been able to find any real comparison regarding call quality. Since I actually plan to talk on the phone, what do those of you have one or the other or both have to say about sound/call quality? Ultimately, I think this will be the most important factor in my decision.
View 9 Replies View RelatedOkay, so I know that the Epic doesn't have Youtube HD, but is there any way to get HD quality (by using something other than the youtube app maybe?). Also, we noticed when watching some youtube vids (in the store) that the video doesn't fill the screen either. Is there a setting to change this or is that as good as it gets on the Epic? My wife was pretty disappointed with the lack of HD and the picture size (I'm not as fussed about it, so I really asking for her sake).

Now everything that comes out the speakers sounds like static or like a blown speaker. Sucks cause now I have to take it back to bestbuy. I'm hopping somehow it fixes by its myself.

But when watching the movie, they're is some chopiness and the quality is not as good like when watching a you tube clip in hd. Is there anything I can do to increase the video quality?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI don't own an Epic but have thought about jumping from verizon to sprint for their superior 3G coverage in my area. The only phone that interests me is the Epic so I have been reading a lot of forums and reviews. I have heard that the Samsung is supposed to have great quality through the 3.5mm(I think because of some pre-amp or dedicated part of the processor. I'm no expert and cant remember what I read and where).
I haven't really seen to many comments about the audio quality from the 3.5mm headset jack and also the exterior speaker loudness and quality. Coming from the Original Moto Droid it has the best external speaker on any other phone I've owned thus far but sub-par 3.5mm headset jack quality/loudness. Can anybody give me some of their personal opinions on how they think the Epic external speaker matches up to the original Moto Droid and how about the quality/loudness out of the 3.5mm.
like title states, post your build date and the experience you are having with it. I have had 2 10.07's and they both have had issues.

However if I call my voicemail, volume and quality are fine. Obviously something is getting lost when your voice mail is getting routed through a data connection.

View 13 Replies View RelatedI thought my Palm Pre had excellent sound quality. But the Epic sound is phenomenal. I talk with my girlfriend every night and last night I heard tons of background noise from her 10 year old cordless phone.
I never heard any of it before. I actually thought I might have a defective Epic,but today I made other calls and the Epic is outstanding. Actually every aspect of the phone is outstanding.
This is for anyone who links their facebook contacts with phone contacts.I set this up yesterday and it works great the problem i have is when i get an incoming call there picture pops up but the image quality is so horrible you can't even tell what it is. I am used to my Hero showing a really good version of there facebook pic. does anyone know how to fix this. i want to use the facebook pics for my contacts but they just look horrible.

If I press on the grill covering the speaker it seems to go away. I'm planning on taking it to a Sprint store to compare.

I recently took my Epic to a concert and recorded some videos. The picture quality of the videos was OK but the audio was amazingly distorted. There was a lot of bass at the concert which greatly I assume distorted the entire videos sound. I am greatly disappointed as I cannot listen to the songs cuz the sound so bad! Is that normal?
View 2 Replies View RelatedSort of two things which might be related. I've been having call quality issues with this phone since I got it. I thought it sounded very electronic and could hardly stay on the phone. Took it to a Sprint store and they did a soft reset and said they couldn't duplicate the issue. I made some calls, some said it sounded better. As long as I have the volume turned down it seems to be okay. But then it's hard to hear what they are saying. If I turn up the volume it sounds like someone is yelling too loudly too close to a microphone. Like bad speakers rattling or something (especially with "s" sounds).
On my headset which was $100 and worked so well on my old phone (people couldn't even tell I was on a headset) the person on the other side either says it's "okay" or says they can definitely tell I'm distant, to one friend saying it was "awful." When listening to Visual Voice Mail it's awful sound, regardless of the volume. Want to try to get a new phone, but then worried I'll have one of the other issues everyone else is having (WiFi or GPS or whatever).
I downloaded Voice Recorder and it seems to work fine, expect for one thing, the voice quality when played back sucks! My old Samsung Sync was so much easier to understand, when playing back voice recorded messages. The Epic has a lot of hiss and scratchiness to it. I hope that's not what other people are hearing on the other end of our conversations. Anyone else have similar results using Voice Recorder, or comments from people their talking to? Could the lousy quality be because of the app, or the Epic's mic?
View 1 Replies View Relatedjust received my X about two weeks ago. I love it. It is way better than my old BB Storm. So far I have only found one issue that I can't seem to resolve. It seems that from time to time my external speaker just stops working for media files. The ringer will still work as will any alerts, but if I try to play a YouTube file there is no sound. A reboot of the unit will fix this, but I am wondering if this is a know glitch or if I might have an app that is causing this. I tried searching for this topic but the only thing that comes up is a thousand threads complaining about the sound level.

View 6 Replies View RelatedOK. I asked this a different way but I'd like to get some more input. The loudness on the phone is definitely lower after the 2.1 update. To the point that the speakerphone can't be used in the car while under 1.5 it could be used (it was very loud). A lot of discussion on this topic and the only fix given is using a leaked program that is copyrighted. Is there a way to change the phone settings for loudness without using this program? It is almost like they applied that EU loudness mandate. Makes the speakerphone useless now for me.

There are many, many great things about it from my early impression but what about you? What were you most pleasantly surprised about once you started playing with yours? For me I was very surprised at the quality and volume of the speaker. This thing sounds beautiful for one single speaker. Iphone's don't even get close to the beauty of this speaker. I was expecting it to sound tinny and dull but this thing is loud, full and vibrant. I know that I made the right purchase for sure.

He had to bring the first one back due to his external speaker sounded blown, and now the replacement one he got is doing the same thing. We were wondering if this is a popular problem and if the next replacement he gets Saturday is going to do the same thing all over again. He never uses the external speaker only for the message alerts. We are both stumped onto why the same thing would happen to both phones. I have the same phone and mine hasnt done it I do have mine on vibrate a lot more then his.

Is there a way to get the ring/notification only through the headphones? I really don't want to have to turn my phone on silent mode and just have a pause when the phone rings while I'm listening to music. so far i have been unable to find a setting or app for this issue.

Before rooting when I had my earpiece in - if I received a message or call then sound came only through the earpiece. Now it comes through the earpiece and the external speaker on the phone.
