HTC :: Most Pleasant Surprise On Quality _ Volume Of Speaker?
Apr 29, 2010
So I just received my Incredible today like many of you and wow, just wow. I love this thing! There are many, many great things about it from my early impression but what about you? What were you most pleasantly surprised about once you started playing with yours? For me I was very surprised at the quality and volume of the speaker. This thing sounds beautiful for one single speaker. Iphone's don't even get close to the beauty of this speaker. I was expecting it to sound tinny and dull but this thing is loud, full and vibrant. I know that I made the right purchase for sure.

I'm writing an Android application that plays back voice mails using Media Player, which are just WAV files that have been sent to the device. When I play the file, it's played on the device's speaker, or else it plays through headphones if they're plugged in. What I want to do is play the file so that it sounds to the user as if it's at the same volume level as a normal phone call. Is there a way to route playback so that the file is played through the phone's ear piece instead of out of the speaker?

What is the quality of the DHD speaker, I've heard it's not very loud or clear? I'm upgrading from an iphone 2G which had a terrible speaker, so I assume it's better than that. Is it loud enough to listen to music without headphones?

Does anyone else get bad quality at medium to higher volumes through normal calls (not speakerphone). Anything over two notches from muted gives me a wierd vibrating noise when the other end is talking semi high pitched and consistently. It sounds almost robotic or like paper. I didnt know if this was just my phone, the majority, or all epics suffer from this problem.

I have a ADP1 that just developed a problem. The ear speaker volume is very low. My app does not adjust any volume, but I suspect that some other application is fiddling with it. Or, the unit is defective. (I've had it over a month, though.) First, is there a way to set the default volume of the phone? I couldn't find it. I've rebooted and even removed the battery to see if the default volume would come back. But, no luck. Notes: * The volume is turned all the way up. * Speaker volume is fine. * Bluetooth headset volume is fine

is the speakers equal to the HTC Desire? Or better? how can the phone ring louder when it is put in a bag? if it is already on maximum volume? does the SRS and Dolby Digital really have a difference? I'm seriously afraid of all those things before I buy a DHD

I have the external speaker (the one on the bottom rear of the phone) volume set to MAX but for use as hands free in the car, I found the volume to be tinny and not nearly loud enough. My guess is that there aren't any settings I'm missing.

I use my Desire in the car quite a bit, and as I don't have a bluetooth hands free kit, my old one got smashed in the boot when I dropped a big tool box on it. Dumb ass, I'm using the inbuilt speaker on the phone. While for the most part, this is fine, I would like to increase the volume slightly. Obviously not enough to blow the speaker. I know there's an app/mod for the headphones volume, but what about the speakers volume? Anyway of increasing that?

Updated to 2.2. Did a factory reset. Am very happy with 2.2 - speed, battery life etc. all top notch. The speaker volume is still too low. Yes, it's a BIT louder but not much.

The speaker is on the back of the phone, below the battery cover. When I hold the phone by its sides while watching a video, the speaker sound can sound tiny. But when I cup the back of the phone with my right hand, the volume is increased, possibly because the sound bounces off my hand.

I'm really not crazy about this phone after playing with it the other day at the at&t store. The earpiece speaker volume is VERY low. Reception drops like a cinder block, from holding it pretty much anywhere. Its pretty chuggy, and i'm not very confident about support from the community. that being said, there are a lot of nice things about the phone. Howerver, one thing it HAS to have, is HSUPA. I tried to do an upload test, but i couldnt find any sites that worked. And i didnt know if here was an app i could get, plus the market wasnt set up.

any good methods for increasing the volume of my phone as it doesn't seem to be loud enough.
Mainly for my alarm clock and ringtone so that I don't miss calls or oversleep. I saw on the forum about speaker boost, but it doesn't seem to make a huge difference for me. I currently am using the LG optimus Pro

I've seen a few posts noting that the speaker volume was not loud enough even when turned all the way up. I'd like to get this phone and use the turn-by-turn GPS is this going to be a problem?

So I got my X, I love it all in all a much better phone that the original Droid (other than the lack of root thus far). Anyway, I have noticed that sometimes the audio from a call comes through the earpiece very low volume. Also when using the speakerphone feature (because it's hard to hear through the earpiece) I found that the caller on the other line can't hear me unless I yell into the phone! For a phone with 3 mics I'm not happy with these issues.

I put some MP3s on my Inc and the audio player plays them fine and they're pretty loud coming out of the speaker.
Now, I took one of those MP3s and set it as my ring tone. I turned the ringtone volume all the way up and when I got a call, it's like half the volume as it played as an MP3.
Why do I lose so much volume? Is there any way to make that louder?

This is a different problem than the several threads that talk about low volume from the speaker. My normal speaker volume is adequate, except perhaps in a very noisy environment. But this is what is happening: At some point speaker volume will be normal and then later in the day I use an app that has sound, like YouTube or Google Maps navigation. The sound from the speaker is so low that I have to hold the speaker up to my ear to hear it, even in a very quiet room. Much lower volume than it usually is. I push the up volume rocker and it shows that Media Volume is already at the max. It is as if something muted the speaker, but not quite fully muted it because I could hear it by holding it to my ear.
The first time it happened, I had opened the YouTube app and played a video. The speaker volume was so low I had to hold the speaker to my ear. I plugged in some headphones to check whether the volume was normal there. It was. When I removed the headphones from the jack, the speaker volume returned back to normal................

Just wanted to make sure if this is a common issue or something wrong with my handset (so that I can try getting it replaced).
When I hear calls using phone's default speaker, the sound comes okay till one volume level. If I move up, the sound distorts.
If I use speaker-phone, things are worse. After a certain level, sound crackles a lot.
For music via phone's loud speaker, the sound doesn't crackle. But as identified by many, I can hear music with no bass & lots of treble.
Is this normal for Desire?
Comparing it with my wife's N95 (which has stereo speakers) was a nightmare for me.

I made the switch from a BB Bold 9000 to the Captivate last Friday and so far I am in love! There is just one issue that I would love to gloss over but it's important given that it is a phone so I'd like your input. There was one other thread on this that sounds kind of like what I'm experiencing but I just wanted to be sure before I go in and exchange it.
When I am on a call, it is rather difficult for me to hear the person on the other end. I have the volume turned all the way up but not only is that not that loud but they also sound muffled. If it were one or the other I might be able to deal, but I never had trouble hearing on my BlackBerry and I never had the volume turned all the way up. It's gotten to the point where I'm unknowingly pressing the phone against my ear really hard so I can hear better. Has anyone else noticed that callers sound muffled? Should I exchange it?

I love my Evo 4g but I have to say it lacks in sound quality. Phone calls get distorted if the volume is set too high. It sounds bad like the speaker is blown, I wonder if this is an actual defect or if it can be fixed with a software update. I also use Pandora and mp3 player and when I use my 3.5 mm to cassette adapter in my car the low/mid range frequencies are hollow sounding. I use many other devices in my car (ipod, laptop,Samsung mp3 etc.) And none sound like this. I've also plugged directly into home surround system and bose inner ear head phones and noticed this. I hope they can fix this with a OTA update .....

I call internationally on calling cards A LOT (gv to those countries is 2x more expensive). Because of the calling card, sound quality and volume already takes a hit. Translation from a non-native language is more difficult over the phone, and damned near impossible for me if I can't hear them CLEARLY and LOUDLY. Same goes for the party at the other end if my microphone is sub-par.
Can anyone recommend a Bluetooth headset that works well with the droid and has AMAZING call clarity, quality, and good volume? Aesthetics are unimportant, I don't care what it looks like or how big it is. It just need to sound loud, clear, and have a good mic. It also needs to be comfortable because it will get used 1-2 hours EVERY day.
Bonus points if its stereo and supports A2DP audio, as getting one of those for music listening is also on the shopping list... but I'm perfectly willing to get two separate units if I need to.

Verizon was bad enough but at least I knew going in that I would have My Verizon. I am getting real sick of UNREMOVEABLE crap ware or features, some just showing up on my phone. One day it's Kindle, now it's Places. I keep waking up to new junk or built in ahem...features that I don't want and can't remove. Let see - this is what I can't remove so far: Amazon MP3 - Don't play music on phone, don't need it Yeah I know I can root but I don't want to be an Android guru. I just want to use the phone to make calls and use the Apps that I want vs what Google or Verizon thinks is the greatest thing since milk. Jeez - people complain about Jobs having to much control with Apple, this isn't that much different. I feel better but I hope Google and Verizon can YOU HEAR ME NOW. Let us remove this useless junk.
