So today I went to my messages and noticed that all of my old ones were gone. I have the Delete Old Messages option off. Is there another setting somewhere that I am missing? Does it just delete all messages no matter what once it gets to a certain capacity?

I have an Epic on Sprint.
I have the phone set to only keep 25 messages in a thread and automatically delete old messages. I have tried a hard reset. I am using the stock messaging app, but I have seen others who have the same problem with third-party apps.
PROBLEM: I delete unwanted texts and threads, but as soon as I receive a message from someone whose threads I have deleted ALL (I mean ALL) of my deleted text messages come back. Let me be clear, when I say ALL I mean every text message I have sent to anyone comes back - the entire thread returns. Even though my thread settings are set to 25, some of these threads have thousands of messages in them.
I am not using any third party app for backup. There is a little sync symbol up by the clock while the messages return and it can take hours for the messages to all load up - oldest messages return first, so I cannot read new texts until the process is finished. There appears to be no way to stop the sync either. I have to wait it out.
This is my second Android phone and the fifth Android I have had in my family. Everyone of them has had bizzarre problems like this. Every time I complain out loud, my wife just says, "My iPhone doesn't do that."
I use my phone in English, but often send and receive text messages in Spanish (and other 2 languages...) What do I have to install/do/change to make the phone able to at least read and correctly render text messages received in Spanish?? I just get a bunch of "?" signs when there are special characters.

I have my Facebook account synced and it shows the pictures under my call log, contacts, dialer, but does not show the contact pictures in my text messages? Anyone know how to fix this, it really annoys me seeing a bunch of empty picture slots when looking at my text message list.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI received my Evo Tuesday in the mail. I had my number ported over from AT&T Tuesday afternoon and my EVO activated. Since that time I have received only a few of the text messages being sent to me and some I send are not being received. For example:
1. I was having a conversation with a Verizon user, I got 2 of their replies, then I never got their 3rd one. They sent 2 more messages after that, never got those either.
2. I had a conversation with an AT&T person and we had about 5 replies back and forth before they stopped receiving mine.
3. A Verizon person sent me a random text and I never got it.
4. A Verizon person sent me a random text and I got it, but they never got my reply.
These scenarios have occurred over and over with both Verizon and AT&T customers. Sometimes the texts will make it, sometimes not. I don't know anyone else on Sprint's network to test it with them. I have literally spent the last 2 days on the phone with Sprint tech support, No one can figure this out.
- My EVO isn't rooted or doing anything fancy, it's pretty much out of the box.
- I am NOT using a task killer.
- I have updated PRL multiple times
- I have updated profile multiple times
- I have rebooted and removed the battery multiple times
- I tried downloading both chompsms and handcent to see if that helped but it didn't.
- I had an "RTN" (was also referred to by tech support as a ##something-or-other) hard reset done at the Sprint store (losing everything on the phone in the process). It didn't help.
Tech support was positive this would resolve the problem because all else had failed. Since it didn't, they're all out of ideas. I know it can take a day or two for routing to get straighted out but it's been 2 days and the behavior has not improved. It also doesn't make much sense if you're going back and forth fine one minute and the next minute it just fails completely. I use this phone for my job, and 90% of what I do on it is messaging. I really need to get this working. I do not want to go through the drama of doing the Sprint 30-day return and trying to get my AT&T account back. It seems a very simple thing to just be able to send & receive texts messages. My SMS service with AT&T was quite reliable.
This is my first post here. Got my Desire recently and i am loving the phone. Like other i was having battery issues but following the advice here i was able to extend the battery life considerably, so im hoping someone here may know something about an issue om having.
Im using the Handscent app for text messaging. However over the last week or so when i go to open a new message, the application freezes and shuts down. When i go to open it again all my messages are deleted. They are also missing in the standard messaging app that came with the phone.
Has this happened to anyone else? If it did did you find a way to stop it happening?
I am looking for a way to retrieve old texts that were in my phone, that were deleted, these are VERY important texts, is there a way i can get them back, there original texts were from dec/2012 to jan/ 2013, i have called verizon, and got their "static" answer
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been having a problem recently with my phone sending text messages to random nonsensical numbers. i.e. I get a message failure because the phone tried to text "0110000100000" which is obviously not a phone number. I had installed handcent almost immeadiatly upon getting the phone. So I tried uninstalling it and putting on chomp. Still have the same problem. It seems to help if I use my task killer after using the sms app.
I am running the original firmware that came on the phone from Rogers, as everytime I use pc companion, it tells me i am up to date, and the update service locks up my computer (and my laptop and my wife's netbook).
I would rather not do a factory reset, but I am getting pretty close.
Can any of you retrieve deleted text messages or know how? I know you can retrieve them via SIM card, but there isn't one... I have a memory card reader, but if i'm right, you can only retrieve photos from the SD card? I was wondering since most of you probably know how to code that if you knew how to retrieve them a different way or could where to go or how to do it? It would be very much appreciated.

View 3 Replies View RelatedUsing Handcent for texts, but went into the Messages app and saw a bunch of "ghost" messages with a date of 12/31/69 (tap on the messages and they don't load). It turns out that when I receive a text it displays the correct date and time in both Handcent and Messages, but when I delete in in Handcent it goes into this "ghost" state in Messages. Has anybody else run into this?

To add more info to this, I did not have delete old messages when limit is reached check. I had thousands of messages in my inbox before the deletion.
This is really annoying, what good is a phone that can't reliably store text messages?? As I said before I had several very important locked messages that are now gone as well.
So, sometimes the screen will just turn on and stay on until I press the on/off button. Is this normal?

This has happened once before about a year ago and I eventually gave up trying to restore my messages. How to prevent it? I'm thinking the message database is somehow getting corrupted which is why it's clearing out all of my conversations?
I'm running 2.3.3 - my phone was rooted at some point but I'm guessing after an OS update I lost that capability. This happened before the OS update and now after.
Went to sleep with approximately 25 text threads. When I woke up and looked at my phone there were no message to be found. Everything was erased. Very strange. For the record I have the "delete old messages" unchecked.

Is there a way to show a list of my contacts when forwarding or at least a way to forward to a group? I have groups set up, but there doesnt seem to be a way to access them when forwarding. I have tried every option and every menu and cant find out how to do this on the Epic?

The screen would then switch to my home screen but with no shortcuts just a background then after a second go black until I hit the home button. I restarted the phone and when I opened messaging ALL my conversations were gone. Is this a known glitch? is there a way to get all my texts back?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI guess I will give the background. I had over 100 pictures stored on my sd card, and i last looked at them yesterday. Today I opened my File manager, and it had expired, so I dl'ed Astro. When I went into Astro and clicked on my DCIM there was nothing inside which I thought was weird. So I went to my Albums and sure enough, It cant find any photos or videos. I took a camera shot, and it saved it to the sd card and I was able to look at it. I unmounted and removed the sd card (also rebooted phone) hoping it might jump start the card or something. When I put the card back in the phone, it had erased the one picture I just took and saved. I was wondering if anyone else had this happen to them? Is a bad sd card most likely the case?
View 5 Replies View RelatedGot my Hero almost on release date from Orange Uk. I am well happy with it especially after the ROM update (official Orange one from HTC). I suffered from the missing SMS problem thats mentioned in another thread on here but I installed SMS2mailbox and that seems to be sorted now. I don't use my gmail account as my main email account I use my ISP which is Sky. I have a strange hit and miss problem with the POP mailbox and I wondered if anyone else suffers from it or knows a fix.
I have the email account setup on the Hero and it shows mail in my mailbox no problem, the issue I have is that it randomly deletes mails from my POP server and only keeps the copy on the phone. Heres an example. I get sent 5 emails in a day while I am at work. I check my Hero mail app and it shows them all. When I get home I open my Outlook client on my PC and only 4 emails come down. I can check on the phone and it still displays the 5. First I thought it was a phone setting but the 'Delete Mail on Server' is definitely set to off. This happened before and after the ROM update. I wonder if it is peculiar to Skys mail servers.
I did attempt to use the search feature here but didnt come up with the results I was looking for (or maybe I used it wrong?) I ask the following questions because unfortunately, I dont have good eyesight.
1. Regarding font size. I realize there is no current setting for font size on this phone (that I know of) does anyone here know if the upcoming 2.1 update will include that?
2. I know there is a text size option for the browser. However, it doesent seem to work on most websites I go to (like CNN for example) I try setting it at different sizes and nada. So far my browsing experience hasent been that good because of this (having to constantly strain my eyes looking at website text) Any tips on why the text size option doesent seem to work?
3. is there anyway to increase the text size of emails and text messages?
I flashed the vipor rom for my epic and i would like to know if there is a way to get all the apps and messages and email setups i had back.

I can send them but everytime I hit the download button for a message I get an error message saying that download was unsuccessful. Does anyone else have this problem? Could it be because I am a new customer and this is the first day?
