I am new to Samsung Captivate. When my screen is locked i see a series of symbols in the upper right corner. I see the same symbols when I pull down the notification bar, right above where it says "No Notifications" if I don't have any. They are @@@^oe@@ I find it very weird. I have been looking and I can't figure out if I can change those symbols or just get rid of them.

I'm using swype on my captivate and I love it. The only thing is, is there a way to change the buttons for some of the symbols so that you don't have to hold the % to get ]
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a confession to make.One of the first things I did when I got my Captivate was tried to De-TouchWiz it.I immediately got a new launcher and used lockbot to change the lockscreen.Well, what I'm finding out is that there are some things about TouchWiz that I really like.For example I love being able to change wifi settings etc. on the drop down notification drawer.I also love being able to change the brightness by swiping the notification bar.The one thing that I decided to come back to as a UI element is the Lock Screen.I didn't even give it a shot when I first bought the phone and today I've been using it and I love it.The puzzle message system is just a great tweak and I love how you can just move the puzzle piece into the puzzle hole to go straight to that application instead of swiping the whole screen to unlock and go to the home page.I also really like that you can kind of swipe any which way to unlock the screen, as well as the fact that it's transparent to your wallpaper/live wallpaper.All around, bravo to Samsung on the lock screen.I hope others are enjoying it as much as I am.

I am wanting to take it back to the vanilla side slide with answer and mute or even the up and down slide like the HTC's have. Has anyone found an app worth having to do this? I have read about alot of the apps but they get a lot of mixed reviews that they only sometimes work or are bugged? Just wondering if anyone has been able to do this yet and what they used?
View 6 Replies View RelatedNoticed today that when the phone is unlocked with the power/unlock button, that the screen starts off at a significantly lower brightness, but the light sensor seems to then kick in and the correct brightness is then displayed after. This happens for only a fraction of a second, but is quite jerky and immediate.Is this normal, or should the screen brightness remain one constant level from unlock? Of course, changing when it should based on lighting conditions.The same also happens when the screen is about to sleep. Once the lock button is pushed, the screen brightness almost notches down in 2 steps. First at half the brightness, or so, and then off completely. Again, not necessarily smooth, but quite jarring.Again, is this normal of other Captivates?

View 2 Replies View RelatedFor some songs, it is perfect. But for some songs, either the names or the album names show up as something like?@#*&^@$.
This doesn't happen to songs in English, but in Korean (Not all songs though). I tried renaming, changing song info. My best guess is the locale/text setting.
My wife and I have had our captivates for just over a month and have loved the device despite the few minor issues that we've experienced with them. I check the boards daily to see all the latest, but didn't see anything on one issue that i am experiencing.
When using the camera to take pictures of my infant son, if i try to take a picture, then another and sometimes a third (infants are hard to keep still for a picture) without closing the camera application, a few times i haven't been able to press the take picture button and have noticed a "lock" icon on the camera screen, then can not exit the camera app at all and need to power off the phone, then bring it back up. Does anyone know what causes this and if it's something that i am doing unknowingly when bobbling the phone trying to positing him for the picture?
Can i disable the lock screen with puzzle? I don't like it, i want use lockbot but i have to unlock twice every time.

1. I followed the link. Files I'm referring to are under "Other stuff:"
2. Downloaded the "JH7 zip file OTA Stock" (which never worked for me as an OTA update) to my SDCARD.
3. Created a nandroid backup.
4. Disabled One Click Lag Fix.
5. Flashed the "JH7 zip file OTA Stock" from recovery menu.
The phone booted up almost stock with the update, has root/superuser but I had to enable non-market apps again, just like the first time I rooted. Also had to setup my accounts again...and apps. Then I downloaded the "Stock Lock Screen" the same way and flashed the zip from recovery menu. I was using the stock Captivate ROM - rooted and using One Click Lag Fix before, now I am using the updated JH7 ROM - rooted with re-applied One Click Lag Fix, and running the "vanilla" lock screen (screenshot below) rather than a glitchy Lockbot alternative. View 4 Replies View RelatedI am a big fan of Android and the Captivate. I've been addicted since day one.
That said, I'm noticing a lot of lag for a "high end" phone with such high specs. I have two news widgets, one weather, and a live wallpaper, and that's it. But I notice sometimes I push the power button and nothing happens for a while. I swipe the lock screen and it freezes for a second. Things take time to happen on this phone. I'm not even running my favorite launcher (Launcher Pro) because when I run it, the wallpaper would freeze for a few seconds at certain times.
When I remove the the widgets and use a static wallpaper, things vastly improve. But then it's as plain and boring as an iPhone!
The widgets I'm running: Battery Indicator, Weather Bug, Engadget, News Buzz.
The wallpaper is the galaxy live wallpaper that comes with the phone.
I mean I customize the phone with a couple of widgets and a live wallpaper and I try to show it to someone, and instead of awing and shocking them with its brilliance, it turns into a crappy PowerPoint slideshow.
1. My friend just got a Droid phone for Verizon and he has the PUZZLE lock screen All the time (not just when theres a missed Message or Call <mine only does that). Can this ben changed?
2. Is there an App for a Screen Tap turn on, I dont enjoy pressing the button on the side everytime?
3. Are there any other Screen lock Apps other than LockBot free?
I cannot find the where I change my User info on the "Lock Screen" ... (Where it says ... " This Phone Belongs To".

View 15 Replies View RelatedI live in an area where there is solid EVDO coverage yet my Hero doesnt display the 'EV' over the signal bars like it says it should according to the manual. My old Pre would tell me if I was on Sprint's EVDO network or 1x. Am I missing something?
Also, I constantly have a symbol of a satellite dish with flashing incoming network waves on my notification area even though I have turned off GPS and location services. I can't find anything about this symbol in the manual. anyone know what this is?
Is there an app that allows you to pull the notification bar down from the lock screen? I mean this would be nice and when you touched the text from the notification bar, it took you to your text messaging app without haveing to swipe down the lock screen slide.

After flashing to my new Stock ROM 4.3 (I9300XXUGMK6) i got different and so frustrating lock screen! What i must to change in android sistem to get back my old notification circles? I have old ROM extracted in .EXT4 file and mounted into "ext2explore" and all resources from it, also have fully rooted device on my new 4.3 andorid. I tried to replace "OmaDrmPopup.apk, OmaDrmPopup.odex" from old ROM, and also tried to replace "PopupuiReceiver.apk, and PopupuiReceiver.odex" but nothing happend. What .apk is responsable for that lock screen notifications i want? See attached images to understand my problem.

I have a samsung vibrant. Every time i plug it in its charger, the lock screen will not lock amd if m doing something, the sensitivity of the screen will be thrown of. It doesn't do that if i plug,it,in a computer usb, it doesn't,do that and charges normally. Is that a wide spread issue.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI made the switch from the (surprise) iPhone on the day of release to the Moto Droid. I really do like the phone, but there are 2 consistent quirks that I can't find an answer to after searching Google and many many forums.
1. Lock screen timeout. This one really annoys me for some reason (probably just because I feel like it's a waste of battery life). So I have the screen timeout set for 1 minute, so if I have the phone unlocked, and I don't use it for 1 minute then it locks itself (fine, good). BUT, if I have the phone locked, and I just hit the Home/Lock button on the top of the phone to see the lock screen, WHY does the lock screen stay on for the same amount of time (1 minute) before going off again??? If I don't unlock the phone, I just want that screen to turn off quickly, maybe in 5-10 seconds.
2. Gmail notification. I have 2 gmail accounts (1 for school, 1 personal), and it's the only mail I use or have set up on the phone. All I want to have is a notification of gmail in the taskbar so when I hit the Home/Lock button and see the lock screen, I can tell if I have gmail or not. I DON'T want the LED to blink if I don't check or delete the mail (turning LED gmail notification off). (Having the number of mails would be nice too, either in the taskbar or on the home screen, or optimally, both).
On iPhones the notification is center of the screen in a big graphic. On my LG2 all I get is some tiny icon in the notification bar. Also on teh iPhone the lock screen wakes up to show the voicemail prompt/graphic. On the LG2 teh screen is still dark. So unless I turn on my lock screen, I never know I have a v-mail.

My messages show up, but when I swipe them, the lock screen slides over to a second page. I tried playing around with some of the lock screen settings, but couldn't figure anything out. Am I missing something completely obvious, or is this somehow not possible to do?
Brand new S4 received yesterday, stock OTA 4.4.2 pushed by Verizon about 5 minutes after my phone was activated.
After playing a bit more, I found that if I swipe to the second lock screen page, then back, if I tap on the message notification it will open, but tapping before that yields nothing.
Recently I noticed that a lot of button selections on my screen are screwed up. I get symbols like %%% instead of what it's supposed to say.

Now, i am rooted. But I really dont think it's my rom as I hadn't noticed it before.
I think It might be Shapewriter Keyboard... but i am not sure. Before everyone tells me to use Swype... i do. But i like Shapewriter because of different languages.
Anyway, when i hold down the text field, i dont see "input method" anymore. I see this:
I click on "copy all", then I get this: .
It's very weird. Everything works fine. Anyone have any ideas?
I also noticed it when an app force closed. I had the same type of symbols on the force close button.
