I am new to the captivate. I have all my contacts in my phone now, about 300. Is there a way to either group or create groups of them and then set one of those groups up as the contact default? I know some phonebook apps probably do this but are limited in their information. I am looking for the full contact info (with phone numbers) and then isolate those I use frequently into such a group.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to develop an application on Android 2.1 emulator, My application connects in background to a remote server through an HTTPConnection with REST Protocol, and gets updates in JSON format. A Digest parses these JSONObject and then fills its local Databases with the new datas. The Server can also send to the mobile application a list of new contacts to add in the system PhoneBook. Here's my question: how can I make a new contact from a bunch of datas and insert it in the system PhoneBook in Android 2.1, without any interaction with the user? Moreover, how can I get these datas back when I need it? I have tried to do it like the ContactAdder in the ContactManager sample(http://developer.android.com/resources/samples/ContactManager/ index.html) does, but it works only if I specify an account for the sync function, and I don't need this feature in my application, so I don't have any account to select! Is there a way to do the same things the ContactAdder does without specifying an account (something like creating "Phone-only (unsynced) contacts")?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI attempted to import my contacts from my old HTC Touch Pro phone by using an application to export them to a .csv file, then importing them into a gmail account. That part all worked fine. However, when I linked the gmail account and synced up the contact information, there are a couple of problems. First and most important, its not bringing over all of the information. It brought over the contact name, but when you tap on the name, it only shows a gmail link and none of the other information. Second, gmail is using only the first name for the full contact. example: the contact it titled 'George' instead of the person's full name like "Butler, George'. How can I fix these two issues?
View 7 Replies View RelatedWhen my car bluetooth downloads the phonebook from my captivate, it downloads some contacts, but doesn't download the ones from my exchange server. They show up fine in the contacts app, but the car doesn't receive them. I thought it might be an issue with the way they were put into the contacts, so I undid the built in android exchange account, deleted the contacts, then installed touchdown and populated it that way. Still no joy. I thought that originally it was downloading them correctly (using the built in exchange sync) but either stopped working correctly, or never was and I just now noticed it.

I am switching alot of contacts from my old palm 755p. I created a vcf file and was able to import the contacts gmail however now when it downloads to the phone it put all the contacts under the group namegoogle rather than phone. Is there anyway to switch the contacts to get them listed under group phone?
Also how do you save attachments from an email? I was trying to save the vcf attachment and then import it into the phone but couldnt save the attachment.

Context: I was given a brand new SIM card for it I switched from a Blackberry Bold.The AT&T rep. tried using the machine that connects both phones and synchs contacts from one to the other, but it did not work. My question is: How do you synch contacts from a Blackberry to the Captivate? Before you answer, let me say that I do have a Gmail account and I know the Contacts app can synch with the account, but I do not store my friend's phone numbers on there - and I do not want to individually input each one. Also, I own a Mac and when I had my blackberry I did not back up my contacts on my Mac, and did not have Outlook to back them up onto even if I had tried backing them up - so I cannot simply export my contacts to .csv and load them up to Gmail. There is more I can say (for instance, it seems as if my contacts have been put onto my Captivate, but they're not in the Contacts App that came preloaded with the Captivate...they are, instead, in the folders section under Contacts...how the heck did they get there?!) but I will stop here and see if anyone can guide me through this very frustrating process.

Having had the Nexus one with glorious Stock Android I'm struggling with some of the Samsung 'improvements'. The primary issue for me right now is that I've got the nasty Sammy Contacts app (with it's non-maintained-aspect-ration contact pics, i HATE that) sync to Google Contacts, but it shows them all! On the N1 I could filter so that I could only view 'My Contacts' from Google, a nice limited Group I could readily maintain. I can see no option to do this on the SGS. Anyone found it? Can't wait for a stock android ROM for this beast, it is awesome but as of yet I can't see how Samsung added any value with their SW meddling.

I'm still having to go into People to find phone numbers. Surely both the phonebook and People should have the same contacts in? Or do they just appear on the phonebook list once you've contacted them?

Why are those entries not linked to the regular contact? I have this problem with every ROM i use....
I can't delete those entries but the phone tells me that they will be hidden instead. Is there an easy way to fix that instead of trying to delete every single contact?

Now, the problem is, that RawContacts.ACCOUNT_TYPE does not exist in the ContactsContract.Contacts.CONTENT_URI, which I use with my query. I'm guessing I'd need to join another table, but have no idea how to do so.
This seems to be a very annoying feature if there is not a way to disable it (and I can't find one). I have my google contacts all set up and they are the only things I want in my phone book. I know in "people" I can just show google, but when I got to dial a number, all of my facebook friends with numbers show up too. For some reason they are showing up in my google contacts too (when I log into gmail on my computer). It is nice how the facebook picture syncs with my contacts, but that is all I want, not everyone on else facebook who are not in my google contacts.
