Anyone have an issue with their Captivate Display turning on by itself?
Lately my Cappy will turn itself on and stay on. For example, I have my phone on my desk, and the phone display will turn on, and stay on. No message, phone call, text or meeting reminder is received.

This problem only started after I bought JuiceDefender and I think I have all the settings set up properly so I'm not sure why this is happening. In the Android settings I have it set for a 30 second timeout, but for some reason my screen will fade brightness, but never go off completely.
View 5 Replies View RelatedSo I just got my captivate & went to do the OTA update & when it went to install it the said install failed rebooting phone & then it went black & has not started since it doesn't do anything no matter what I do or how I plug it in. I was wondering if anyone could help me. I have tried all the methods of getting the phone into recovery mode, but as i said it will not even start.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to see if i have a defective unit in that the display is taking up more battery than standby when the phone is not in use and so far my phone has turned off by itself 3 times in the past 13 hours. I had it 100% charged last night before going to bed so i unplugged it from the wall, put it on the nightstand in airplane mode, and i woke up an hour late this morning because my alarm didn't go off because my captivate turned off at some point in the night. I fired it up and it had 94% battery. So i immediately put it into standby and put it in my pocket and went to work. When i got to work i pressed the standby button and nothing happened, so i held it in and voila, the phone is turning on. So on my way to work it randomly shut down again. So now it has 90% battery so i put it on standby again and let it sit for 3 hours. I just checked on it and it had shut off again. It's now at 88% and shows Display=54%, Cell Standby=15%. I think this thing is completely whacked. Between this and the GPS not working i think i'm done. I'm definitely going to take this one back, but i'm concerned about getting a new one that's even more screwed up as it seems there are such few good working copies of this phone out there. Is there some setting that turns your phone off after a certain amount of standby time that i might have somehow mistakenly turned on? I feel like that would be a ridiculous setting to have, but it seems like there are a lot of options on this phone so ya never know.

I use ATK to kill it, lock it, unlock it, and it's still checking for GPS while it's locked. The only way I found to fix this is to restart the phone, and wanted to know if there was any way to stop making it check for GPS without restarting the phone...

Now there's not a single site on the internet selling these doors, and I'm desperate. I found dummy/display Captivates though, so I was just wondering if anyone knows if the dummy battery door can replace the REAL door by any chance?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a new Samsung Captivate, and I can't keep the wifi off. No matter how many times I go to settings (or use the pull-down curtain), and switch off the wifi, within a minute or so, the wifi comes on again. It also turns itself off again periodically when this happens. I don't have any after market power manager installed. I suspect this may be down to an app, but have no idea where to start looking for the solution.
View 8 Replies View RelatedSomething new - under Wifi Settings / Advanced - I have Wi-Fi set to sleep when display is off. This doesn't seem to be the case. My WiFi is Always on. I would imagine that the icon would disappear like it does when WiFi is turned off, but when the phone is asleep and then wakes up, the WiFi connection is still there. Anything I can try to fix this? I have tried changing the WiFi sleep policy to the other 2, then changing it back to display power - didn't work. I did have to reboot the phone last night because I couldn't get WiFi to turn off, but I don't have a problem today with turning it on or off, just won't go to "sleep"
View 2 Replies View RelatedLast night my wife was trying to update her cached stations on slacker radio and although connected to wifi slacker gave a notification that the data would be downloaded over 3g and an unlimited plan was recomended. The strange thing is I had full strength connection to wifi but the 3g icon was still there and and the red and green arrows were showing data transfer over 3g. When connected to wifi on my captivate the 3g icon disappears. A simple power down fixed the problem and wifi was present and no 3g icon in the status bar.

I'm guessing it's a software issue possibly because when I push the button to put my screen to sleep it always works. Also, the same thing happened to my old iPhone 3g all the time.

I used this sim on my iphone 3gs before and have no issue to get 3G signal at my house. Is there a setting somewhere that i can turnon or off 3G. I went to setting menu but only see wifi setting. On the iphone i can turn on or off 3G.

1)Has anyone found a way to change which picture is displayed for a linked contact? On the HTC Aria, you could choose whether you wanted the picture from Gmail or the one from Facebook.
2)Has anyone found a way to change the displayed name in Contacts. Again, on the HTC Aria, you could pick whether to display the name from your Gmail contact or the one from the Facebook contact.
After 18 months of dealing with Apple's crap, I switched to an Android. I picked up the AT&T Captivate yesterday at a store in another city (50 miles away) since my local store wasn't open on Sunday. I love this phone. The display is crisp, the response speed is smoking and surprisingly, I like the touch whiz interface, so far. I am having an issue however. When I left the store, I was on EDGE, and all was fine. Drove home on the EDGE network and had EDGE in town yesterday. When I got home I setup my wireless network on it and the web was crisp. Played for a bit, then went to bed. This morning, when I left for work and left range of my home wireless, The phone didn't pick up the EDGE network. ie. I have no EDGE connection. I've rebooted the phone and still no EDGE. (3G doesn't exist in this 1/2 horse town...sigh) I got EDGE pretty much everywhere with my I phone 3G in this crappy little town.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have done everything that I can think of in order to increase my battery life. I even took the old jeep to the shop to get the AC port fixed so I can charge in my car. I don't know if I have a genuine problem here or if I am just being picky. I know I have been using my phone more the past 3 days because it is a new toy and I can't keep my hands off of it, but I have noticed that the battery does not last more than 8 hour of normal use before it is completely depleted. I rooted it, removed the bloat, turned of GPS and Wireless assist, don't use WIFI, installed a task manager, and turned screen brightness to the minimum.
With all that being said the phone still does not last near what I think it should be. I have had it for 3 days now, so I am guessing what I am hearing from other people is that my battery should be broken in by now. I don't know what else to try. I noticed that when I check the battery use, the display is usually 70+ percent. Is there some day to decrease the brightness beyond the stock settings or something to increase life?Does it sound like I may need to do a battery swap. I know I have been playing with the phone more, but I feel like I haven't been using it so much that it should die that quickly.
are there any shortcuts available? for instance, on the iphone while listening to music and the display turns off, I could double click to home button to display the player's controls. also, i think i saw in another thread that the captivate does NOT support headphone controls.. this stinks. my headphones have a button where I can pause the song.. or use it to answer the phone I receive a call.

It seems that I can either have absolutely no notification of a new text message or I can have this major intrusion of privacy by having the message displayed for all to see. I hand my phone to people constantly to use at my job sites. I trust they are not fishing around in my phone, but when it just shows up on the screen, how can they help but read it. I just wondering if this is still true? Can I make my phone into a WiFi Hotspot without rooting the phone? If so, how can I do it?
