what's the best way to sync up to my imac for basically grabbing photos and videos off this samsung? nothing fancy really. also, is there a way to turn off the 3g so it doesn't suck down my precious 200mb of data? can i turn on wifi permanently when i actually don't have a wifi connection?

I've been trying to see if i have a defective unit in that the display is taking up more battery than standby when the phone is not in use and so far my phone has turned off by itself 3 times in the past 13 hours. I had it 100% charged last night before going to bed so i unplugged it from the wall, put it on the nightstand in airplane mode, and i woke up an hour late this morning because my alarm didn't go off because my captivate turned off at some point in the night. I fired it up and it had 94% battery. So i immediately put it into standby and put it in my pocket and went to work. When i got to work i pressed the standby button and nothing happened, so i held it in and voila, the phone is turning on. So on my way to work it randomly shut down again. So now it has 90% battery so i put it on standby again and let it sit for 3 hours. I just checked on it and it had shut off again. It's now at 88% and shows Display=54%, Cell Standby=15%. I think this thing is completely whacked. Between this and the GPS not working i think i'm done. I'm definitely going to take this one back, but i'm concerned about getting a new one that's even more screwed up as it seems there are such few good working copies of this phone out there. Is there some setting that turns your phone off after a certain amount of standby time that i might have somehow mistakenly turned on? I feel like that would be a ridiculous setting to have, but it seems like there are a lot of options on this phone so ya never know.

I use ATK to kill it, lock it, unlock it, and it's still checking for GPS while it's locked. The only way I found to fix this is to restart the phone, and wanted to know if there was any way to stop making it check for GPS without restarting the phone...

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a new Samsung Captivate, and I can't keep the wifi off. No matter how many times I go to settings (or use the pull-down curtain), and switch off the wifi, within a minute or so, the wifi comes on again. It also turns itself off again periodically when this happens. I don't have any after market power manager installed. I suspect this may be down to an app, but have no idea where to start looking for the solution.
View 8 Replies View RelatedSomething new - under Wifi Settings / Advanced - I have Wi-Fi set to sleep when display is off. This doesn't seem to be the case. My WiFi is Always on. I would imagine that the icon would disappear like it does when WiFi is turned off, but when the phone is asleep and then wakes up, the WiFi connection is still there. Anything I can try to fix this? I have tried changing the WiFi sleep policy to the other 2, then changing it back to display power - didn't work. I did have to reboot the phone last night because I couldn't get WiFi to turn off, but I don't have a problem today with turning it on or off, just won't go to "sleep"
View 2 Replies View RelatedLast night my wife was trying to update her cached stations on slacker radio and although connected to wifi slacker gave a notification that the data would be downloaded over 3g and an unlimited plan was recomended. The strange thing is I had full strength connection to wifi but the 3g icon was still there and and the red and green arrows were showing data transfer over 3g. When connected to wifi on my captivate the 3g icon disappears. A simple power down fixed the problem and wifi was present and no 3g icon in the status bar.

In the Android settings I have it set for a 30 second timeout, but for some reason my screen will fade brightness, but never go off completely.

Lately my Cappy will turn itself on and stay on. For example, I have my phone on my desk, and the phone display will turn on, and stay on. No message, phone call, text or meeting reminder is received.
Anyone else having this problem? When I press the power button to turn on the screen sometimes it doesn't happen. This happens maybe once a week. I'm guessing it's a software issue possibly because when I push the button to put my screen to sleep it always works. Also, the same thing happened to my old iPhone 3g all the time.

If so, I can't get it to work. I had installed the FB app and had the issue with it creating multiple profile links in contacts that would all take me to my page. After reading here I deleted it and just synced with SNS settings. Now I have nothing. No FB links, no pics, nothing. How can I get this to work?

It is checked to sync and shows the sync (circle with arrows) symbol but it never syncs. In contrast, my GMAIL is having no problems syncing...only the calendar. I used to use the Double twist player with double twist installed on my mac to sync with iTunes. works pretty well, just wish it had landscape on the device. then i heard about WinAmp being on the android so i switched to that. better device playlist management, plus it still works with the double twist files so i can still sync with double twist on my mac.

The problem is that I haven't purchased songs on itunes in over a year and I guess now they have something called iTunesPlus, which costs $0.30/song to upgrade to (and remove DRM) and doubleTwist can't convert my iTunes purchases to a playable format due to DRM protection. Is there another music sync service for Android that you guys would recommend that can help me actually put the music that I already paid for once on my phone? I'm not interested in giving Jobs another $182 just to listen to music I already paid for.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've had the Captivate for about 2 months now and during that time, I've never once got the contacts to sync up with my Facebook contacts. I've been to AT&T and they've told me that the phone is so new that they don't even know how to fix it.
What it's doing is taking at least two minutes to try and "sync" and them I'm getting a notification telling me that the sync is down at this current time and should be up shortly. I'm thinking two months is a little longer than shortly.
Is there a way for me to have my events on my calendar synced directly with my Google Calendar in order to get email notifications of what I have on my schedule? I used to have this ability with the ipod touch, and since this is a GOOGLE Android phone, you would think it would be possible here.
