My Captivate has been nothing but a pain. The GPS comes and goes and the response time is horrible with the touch screen (give me old-fashioned BUTTONS any day!) Now the 'message' alert continues to go off and I can't stop it; I finally had to mute it. I have rebooted and even removed the battery and it won't stop.

When I am on the phone and a message or voice mail is left, the notification blares in my ear. Anyone else experienced that and is there a resolution?

View 4 Replies View RelatedFor the last few weeks when I get a text message or email I get the regular notification but also another/different "icon" for the same message; so I end up with two icons in my notification bar. And the only way the "new" icon can be cleared from my notification bar is if I physically pull down the bar and press clear (even if I've read the message it stays there until I clear it). It's starting to drive me crazy...my ringtone even goes off twice. Anyone have an idea on why this is happening? I don't have any third party message apps installed.
View 7 Replies View RelatedOkay -- so I finally mustered up the courage to root and try a lag fix. I rooted using the unleash the beast files. And then tried the lag fix over at XDA found here: xda-developers - View Single Post - [UTIL] One Click Lag Fix 2.0
I ran the lagfix_ext2, like the forum says -- it took about 10 minutes to do some things ...There was an error message in the middle saying that it had to stop the process. I said okay, but the process kept working, finished, and then rebooted. It booted up, and I downloaded quadrant again (it was gone for some reason), ran it, and only ran an 895 -- this is 16 points less than what i ran just using the unleash the beast. Should I try the lag fix again?
I just got my Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant from Bell, and I am not verry technical. I have some (maybe 10) additional apps installed since i got the phone, including advanced task killer.
My issue is this: when I get a new message, it appears in the blinds (the thing at the top?) like it is supposed to, but after I check the message, it stays there, saying I have the new message. I can clear it and it goes away, but shouldnt it dissapear after I check the text?
I also crash frequently, but I am thinking newer firmware will fix that
Looking for some help, just got my SGS a few days ago and m having trouble setting a sound as my text message alert. I have downloaded a few soundboards and want to use one of them....i press and hold the sound i want and set as my default notification.....i then go into settings and choose the relevant sound but everytime i get a text I'm still getting the stupid t-mobile msg sound.

It cannot be changed through notification ringtone menu; all that succeeds in doing is changing tone for other notifications like email etc. Have tried to select other notification tones, but it is the "tada" tone that always comes up when SMS is received. View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been having a problem with my desire home screen (in particular the sms icon) and I'm wondering if anyone else knows how to fix it.
Recently my messages icon has been showing the little "1" in a green circle indicating I have an unread message. Problem is, I've gone through every list of messages I have on the device and there are no messages I haven't read and the "1" stays there. The only ways I've found to get rid of it are to either delete the icon and then put it back or to use Advance Task Killer and kill messages application. I'm not using any fancy apps for messages, just the default one.
My email counter is always perfect, this only seems to affect my sms. Also, my girlfriend told me she sent me a message a few days ago, but I never received it. Not sure if that's a happy coincidence, or if the phone got the message, is telling me I haven't read it, but isn't displaying it for me to see. All the other messages from her are plainly visible.
Sorry if this has already been covered somewhere else but I've searched the website for quite some time and I can't seem to find the answer. I picked up the Captivate the other day and so far I love it but is there a way to assign custom non-Samsung message tones? I mean for texts and emails, calender alerts. When I open the apps and go to settings then change alert tone only the Samsung preloaded ones show up. I can choose any ringtone for calling, just not messaging. I downloaded several apps such as SMS Pop-Up and Chomp SMS to see if that would give me the option to choose any tone but no such luck. My last 2 phones have been a Blackberry Bold 9000 and a Backflip and both those phones had those capabilities. Anyone have any ideas?

(Is it bad to keep it plugged in once it's fully charged?) Also, is there a way to disable this or at least make it quiet (without having to silence the entire phone), so it does not wake me up?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI long press on my homescreen widget, the resize "handle" appears, I resize the widget, I can do absolutely nothing else. Stuck in resizing hell. Have to re-boot to stop the insane amount of resizing going on.
After re-boot the f'n widget is back to the same undesirable old size.
Has anyone figured out a way to have the Captivate default browser not load mobile pages? I didn't fork out all this extra money to load websites in the same format as my old flip phone.

Very annoying, I have to keep turning the phone on all the time. No its not low batteries, I'm not that stupid. Haven't messed around with the phone at all, firmware or rooting or anything like that.
If their are other threads regarding Android crashing on a minute by minute basis can someone please link. And when I say minute by minute, sometimes it is that bad.
And from what I have seen in other postings; I do appreciate friendly helpful people, however, please save the "Welcome" posts for other people, I just want to get down to business
I have a new Samsung Captivate. Sometimes it requires a Password to be entered upon Wake. How do you stop this? All I want to do is slide to unlock. Yes, I have checked Menu->Settings->Location and Security. I do not know what is requiring me to enter a password in order to stop it.

I have synchronized my phone with my exchange server and appear to have lost most of my appointments, and some of the ones that I didn't loose have replicated themselves many times. Does anyone know what caused this, how to stop it, and is it possible to recover the lost appointments? I know I had a lot of things scheduled for this week, but with the exception of a few things that have either been there for a long time or are reoccurring appointments, they are all gone.

I've had my Samsung Captivate for about 4 days now, and today when i plugged it in mid-day to charge (om nom nom battery life) it started emitting random, extremely obnoxious high-pitched beeps about 2 times per minute. It does it whether or not it's on A/C power, it even does it when the phone's powered off but the battery's in there, I just don't understand why or how to stop it.
Phone is awesome otherwise! Anyone having this issue/ know where it's coming from?
I'm on my 2nd captivate and both of these bugs have happened on both phones.
First being the backlight remaining on unless I lock the phone manually. This will happen even with the backlight auto turn off set to 30 seconds. This has happened a handful of times, and I can make the backlight turn off if I want by using the lock key, but it will never auto turn off. This is fixed by power cycling the phone.
Second, my notification volume. I've noticed a few times that I'll have a text or something waiting on my phone for which I didn't hear the notification tone. When I go to the phones settings I find that the notification volume is down around 25% instead of the 75% or so I keep it set at. This seems to happen randomly.
So I installed Kies and not only am I unable to have the phone recognized in Kies, but it is no longer recognized using mass storage mode either. I'm running Windows 7 64-bit and this is already the second time I'm having a problem with the phone being recognized over USB. I have all the drivers installed. Is there some fix for this?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an application that must create a database and if that fails, then no sense moving forward. I've built an AlertDialog and show() it but it never displays. The logic falls through and then barfs because of the missing database.What is the right/best way to throw up a message and halt the activity? The code below executes fine (meaning the show() occurs while debugging and it falls to the next line) but the UI never displays this alert.BTW I realize the throw might not be the most graceful but I'm not even getting that far so.
