View 4 RepliesI know there are threads dealing with app loading on the Captivate, but I am still confused. I read the sideloading sticky, and came out more confused than ever.I am a current Tilt2 (Winmo) user, and am considering buying a Captivate. Are you only able to install apps that you download through Marketplace? If so, is there any simple way to get around that? My boyfriend has a Sprint Samsung moment, and all you have to do is use Astro file manager to install apps which you have saved to your SD card.Is this not true on the Captivate?I definitely would not want to purchase a phone that doesn't allow third party apps.

Also, it'll be nice to try some games using the six-axis motion sensor.
I finally (after some trouble) rooted my Captivate earlier today. Since then, I have not been able to download any apps from the Android Marketplace, either paid or free.
The apps get to the stage of "Starting Download" but just wind up hanging there infinitely.
Is it likely that something occurred during or indirectly related to the rooting itself that's caused this problem, or is this just as likely coincidental?
I saw this app in the market. Samsung Galaxy S Unlock Tool - Android app on AppBrain. a lot of people said is very good. but my question is what is the good to have a unlock phone?

View 7 Replies View RelatedNoticed today that when the phone is unlocked with the power/unlock button, that the screen starts off at a significantly lower brightness, but the light sensor seems to then kick in and the correct brightness is then displayed after. This happens for only a fraction of a second, but is quite jerky and immediate. Is this normal, or should the screen brightness remain one constant level from unlock? Of course, changing when it should based on lighting conditions. The same also happens when the screen is about to sleep. Once the lock button is pushed, the screen brightness almost notches down in 2 steps. First at half the brightness, or so, and then off completely. Again, not necessarily smooth, but quite jarring.Again, is this normal of other Captivates?

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy wife now has a Captivate, but I'm noticing that she has a hard time with the timing of waking up the phone & the slide to unlock time out. Is their a setting to give the user more time to "unlock" the phone before it goes back to sleep?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI used to have a Samsung Omnia HD and to unlock the phone, you would just hold down the unlock button. Is there any app that would enable this for the Captivate?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI tried searching everywhere for this but all that would come up was lockscreen "wallpapers". I was wondering if theres anyway to change the Slide to unlock to something similar to a droids or nexus ones slide to unlock. If it matters any, I am rooted.
View 3 Replies View RelatedAlright, so its day 3 of my time with the captivate... so far so good. coming from my iPhone 2g, I will say the device is amazingly fast by comparison... Also, I have been able to make and receive calls from my office and my in-laws house. two places that had been frustrating dead-zones before. So I am happy. Now, I'm switching over to Google Voice for my SMS, since its free, usable on desktop, etc.I am also using LauncherPro as my Launcher.I am not rooted and don't really plan on rooting.A couple Questions:
- I LOVE the puzzle-piece unlock when there is a Text waiting, is there any way to have this become the standard unlock screen?
- Or, alternatively, can I at least get it to work for texts waiting on google voice? Any way to expand the puzzle functions to include email?
- Is there a good Google Talk widget?
- Is there something I can change to improve facebook notifications? It seems I don't get any, unless I open the app. I tried the widget, but that seems to be just a news feed. Am I missing some setting for push notifications?
I am absolutely new to the world of Android, so the Galaxy S is my first Android phone,I would like to unlock the phone and would like to know how this works. All I have seen is that you can put in an unlock code for it to unlock, but the sites that are offering these codes all want money. Are there any free sites with unlock codes or is there any workaround like rooting the phone?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm about to buy a Galaxy. But here it's exclusive to TMN (cell operator) I use Vodafone. So i'm obviously about to unlock my Galaxy the same day i buy it. I have an Omnia ( I900 ) at this moment and it's unlocking was very easy. Go to dialer, enter a code that would open a service menu. Chose SIM LOCK and disable it. Soft reboot and voila... Anyway i learned it too late so i have an X-SIM that allows me to use my phone with any sim card. My question is, did anyone unlocked a Galaxy?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am a samsung galaxy s user, and have been for a few months, obviously at first i had it as android 2.1, it was brilliant i had nothing to complain about. The other night i updated to 2.2, i think it was that i cant be sure, but, ever since this my phone has just been constant lag, and to be fair i havent noticed any real change except for that, for instance if i recieve a message, my phones unlock screen becomes a lot of puzzle pieces and i have to drag one puzzle piece to a gap, this has become near impossible to do it smoothly, its ridiculous. closing any apps is a nightmare and typing anything is the worse, have i done something wrong? or am i not the only one this is happening to, because my dad has the same phone he updated it just before me and its working fine.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have just got my new Samsung galaxy ACE model GT-S5839i , the problem is that i have been reading a lot of tutorials, about how to root, or unlock the samsung galaxy ACE, but its seem they have done something with the new version and its not working.
There are a lot of stuff out there about the GT-S5830 but anything about the GT-S5839i wich is the one i have got.
So, how to root this phone, or how to enter the recovery mode.
Running a Bell Galaxy-S with 2.1 and the OCLF. Recently when I lock my phone or it just goes to sleep (screen shuts off) I can't unlock it. The screen just stays blank and it requires me to pull the battery and replace to boot it back up. There doesn't appear to be any consistency with this error and I haven't installed any new apps in recent time that would have changed the phone around.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have recently picked up a Samsung Galaxy S Captivate (Android 2.1) on Rogers Wireless. I've been having an issue with the wifi on it, it only works intermittently when I'm at home. It will connect to my network without issues, but none of the data-enabled apps can access anything, they just time out. While this is happening my old iPhone (recent android convert) and my Nintendo Wii are able to connect flawlessly. This ONLY happens when I'm at home on my own network from what I've seen, when I'm on the wifi at my work everything works fine. Has anyone seen issues like this or have any suggestions as to what may be causing it? FYI I have tried different wifi channels, currently my router is setup to use TKIP on WPA2 for encryption.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhile taking apart my Galaxy I broke the copper ribbon to the lock button and now I cannot unlock the phone! Is there a hack or other way to unlock this phone? It currently has Galaxo 1.6.3.3
I can probably boot into recovery and flash any zip but currently I cannot get to the home screen as it is locked so Lock 2.0 or other Market app is not a solution.
Does anyone know, how I can remove the sweep glass screen unlock on the Samsung Galaxy S.
View 3 Replies View RelatedA friend of mine set a password on his Galaxy Note and then he forgot it.Now, I know the solution is to access recovery and wipe data/factory reset.
BUT unfortunately he has lot of pictures and videos stored in the phone memory, not on SD, and he'd like not to lose all of it.
Is there a workaround for that? The Note is stock, but I can work on it, if there's a way to unlock the phone without losing data.
