Samsung Captivate :: Want To Exchange Phone / Phone Randomly Shutting Off

Aug 3, 2010

So I got my phone a week ago or so and it just now started having problems with the GPS and randomly shutting off as well as the battery life being drained within a couple of hours from fully charged. Im guessing I should exchange my phone for a new one within my warranty period. Do I need to bring the original box and everything along with it to exchange it?

Samsung Vibrant :: Phone Started Overheating?

Aug 1, 2010

my phone has started running hot. I'm not talking about when I'm charging it, I expect it to get warm while charging, I'm talking about just normal use. It gets very warm, almost hot, back of the phone, above the battery, near the camera lens/sd card/sim card area. Again the battery is cool to the touch if I remove the cover, but the area above the battery is getting really hot, and I noticed when my phone gets hot, the battery life starts to drain like crazy.

Samsung Moment :: Rooted Phone Overheating Now

Aug 7, 2010

My phone is rooted. I was able to get rid of a few stock apps I did not use. However, now my phone is overheating, battery life is about the same as before, (short) and I cannot tell there are any tangible improvements with the rooting procedure!... Applications take time to load up, and touching screen to open them freezes now and then constantly. Is it the phone or is it the rooting that is causing the problem??

Samsung Captivate :: Want To Exchange Battery

Sep 4, 2010

My battery is still really, really bad. I did manage to last an entire day with 30 percent left by not using it at all, but other than that, that's pretty useless. If I wanted to exchange the battery, would I be able to do that rather than turning over the entire phone and getting back a new one? I don't feel the capacity to hard reset this phone, give it in, then re-root and do all the things I'm supposed to do with this phone all over again.

Is there any way to make it forward the message in-line? If not is there an app that will allow me to do this? Does touchdown do this? Any other apps that are cheaper or free?

Samsung Captivate :: Extend 30 Day Exchange Policy

Aug 11, 2010

I know a lot of us are considering returning our Captivates before the 30 day window is up if there isn't a fix released from Samsung for the GPS problems. I wanted to share what happened tonight. Went into a corporate store and explained to the manager that I wanted to simply exchange my phone for another one, being that my GPS wasn't obtaining a lock. A rep overheard our conversation and blurted out that the "Samsung rep that was in yesterday stated that they are working on a fix that will be out in the next 2 weeks". I explained to the sales manager that the "2 weeks" was beyond the exchange period for me, and I wasn't very comfortable about waiting it out. He kindly offered to extend my 30 day exchange period, for another month. He took out his card, and wrote on the back, Captivate exchange, extended and good until 9/15/2010. I would recommend getting into the stores and getting your 30's extended as well! It cant hurt to give Samsung a few more weeks to try and get this fix out before we start returning these phones in mass quantities.

Samsung :: Looking For Changing Password On Exchange / Captivate

Nov 9, 2010

I've had my Captivate synced to my work and school exchange server for about two months now. This morning, I had to change my work exchange password. However, on my phone....when I into Account Settings>Incoming Settings and try to change the password. I get "Two exchange accounts allowed". It seems it thinks I'm trying to setup a third account rather than change the password to the existing account.

How do I change the password? (I've thought about deleting the account....but my fear is that it will create another instance of calendar and contacts. which happened once before, also annoying...if anyone knows how to get rid of the old duplicated calendars.)

Samsung Captivate :: Jump Ship - Exchange - WP7 Phones

Sep 30, 2010

I'm at my wits end with my 2nd Captivate. I returned the first one 2 weeks after purchase when it started to randomly shutdown. Then all was well for 2+ months and now my 2nd phone is starting to shut down randomly. To add insult to injury, after the latest OTA the phone is locking up, crashing the email app and freezing the messaging app. Sometimes I have to reboot just get email to start syncing again. Worse still, with Exchange PIN security enabled, the phone doesnt always accept the Enter/OK keypress after putting in the PIN so i'm stuck at the unlock screen. 100% stock never-rooted phone and no funky apps. I can't rely on this phone anymore, plus Exchange support is still mediocre. What do I do at this point? Exchange it for another unit? Wait for Froyo? Wait for WP7 phones? ATT has nothing that comes even close in terms of HW features. I came from a Samsung Blackjack 1, then 2, then Jack and all were great phones. This is such a letdown from Samsung.

HTC Desire :: Overheating While Phone On Charging

Jun 3, 2010

I have had my HTC Desire, so I have had it for too long, yesterday it was a hot day and I put my phone in charge whilst it was on with mobile internet on, and was on my bed just under the cover and I completely forgot about it, when i come back after around 7-8 hours the phone is extremely hot and I can smell the phone. I looked at the phone and the battery had only 2 percent charge left which is odd considering it had been in charge for around 7 hours and was very slow like sliding from home screen to home screen was painfully slow, once I left the phone to cool and gave it a charge to 100% I turned the phone back on to find the phone was and still is very slow, also by hot I mean a good 60 degrees hot. Do you think I have done any permanent damage to the phone and that it will never be fast again? Also have I damaged the battery? Can any of the phones get internals damaged by this? Anyone had any overheating issues or problems resulting from this?

HTC Incredible :: Phone Overheating While Charging

May 8, 2010

I was charging my incredible today and after a few hours I noticed the red led light blinking. Thinking it was a missed call I picked it up and noticed it was really hot! I have battery snap app and when I checked the status it said the battery was overheating. I had it plugged into the wall charger that came with the phone. Is this normal? It wasn't charging that long...maybe 4 or 5 hours. I'm worried about leaving my phone on the charger at night time (which is usually when I charge my phones). Does the standard charger not have one of those chips that keeps the battery from over charging? Also, when I took the phone off the charger after noticing it was hot, the battery widget said it dropped from 100% to about 90% after only 10 min. Did I screw up my battery? If so, please tell me it's covered under the insurance.

HTC Incredible :: Phone Overheating / Does Not Charge?

May 30, 2010

I was using my DI as a GPS today, in a mount on the windshield, and had it plugged in the whole time. It was about 90 degrees outside and I had the AC blasting in my car as I drove along the highway.....I noticed after a while that the bolt in the battery display was missing, meaning it wasn't getting charged, and that at the same time the notification LED was alternating between orange and green. I couldn't figure out why it wasn't charging anymore, but after I changed the vent in my car from forward to indirect (there is a vent that shoots air upward right below the mount, coincidentally) it cooled down and started charging again.

Also the SMALLER the better when it comes to the Lighter adapter, as its right next to my hand break etc and gets in the way if tall. Its either the way above or to get the HARD wired BRODIT cradle.

HTC Incredible :: GPS Active - Overheating Phone?

Aug 16, 2010

While making an 8 hour trek to Chicago this weekend, I learned something horrible about my dearest Incredible. She overheats, BADLY when I have my GPS on. Three hours into my drive, my phone actually shut down. So I was curious if anyone had any pointers, or had this happen as well? I had my screen at MINIMAL brightness, had the GPS on and had screen on to follow along, was streaming music from pandora as well. All updates for email/twitter/fb or anything were turned off. Now I had the phone on my shifter console, where there was no sun. But it was on it's back, so on the assumption that it couldn't "breathe", I wedged the top against the opening to my CD player so it was tilted. So air could get to the back of the phone, STILL my status for my battery was "over heat." I had no case, or holder on, nor did I plug it in to charge.

After the phone shut down I took the back casing off, took the battery out, and let it sit on the floor and turned the A/C vents towards it. But really disappointed that my phone couldn't handle the trek. Anyone have any helpful tips about keeping their phone from overheating, or WHAT TO DO? Or if I damaged my phone? It overheated 3 times on my drive...and really disappointed I'm going to have to dust off my Garmin.

HTC Incredible :: Overheating Of Phone Specially Battery

May 1, 2010

I used the camcorder on my Incredible today while outside to shoot some footage and test out the quality. I had the camcorder running for about five consecutive minutes and noticed the back of the phone was hot (it's in the Verizon shell/holster combo). I have BatteryLife running and it said the battery was overheating at 118 degrees. I turned the camcorder off, but it stayed that way for at least half an hour afterwards, even though I had gone inside. It was around 85 degrees outside, which may have been a factor. The Incredible is my first smartphone, so I'm slowly learning what it's all about. I'm not sure what is considered an acceptable temperature. Even though it was hot out, it struck me as odd that the battery would heat up like that.

Motorola Droid :: Overheating And Phone Restarts

Oct 29, 2010

After months without a random reboot, my phone did it twice consecutively today while I was trying to navigate while streaming music (Pandora) on the way from the airport this morning. It worked perfectly on the 1 hour drive there (also on the round trip going there the previous week), but while I was waiting for the guys I was picking up at the arrival gate, I was browsing the web and still streaming music and my phone just did a "soft" restart (where it doesn't show the Moto logo, just the boot animation). Slightly annoying. At least it gets to the launcher pretty quick still. Then, maybe 30 minutes later on the trip back, it does it again while I'm driving back. This time when it got back to the home screen, it refused to pick up any sort of cell signal like it was in airplane mode, but all the other radios were on (BT and satellite). Toggling airplane mode had no affect on it. So I had to totally reboot my phone to get it to work again. I think it may be heat related, when it came back up the first time, SetCPU read the CPU at 51C/124F and that was immediately after reboot, so it may have cooled down some during that. After the second reboot I brought the clock down to 800 MHz from 1.1 GHz and it was good for the rest of the trip. But I was running the exact same load/apps on it the last trip and the ambient temp in the car was the same. So I wanted to see if there some system log/app that can tell me what process forced the phone to reboot or maybe what the CPU temp was when it crashed, to rule out software. Is there anything like this? If not, does anyone know what the max temp the CPU can handle before it forces a reboot? I'm sure there's a threshold for this, just like there is for PCs (but usually they just throttle instead of shutting down), but I don't know what it is. I would think ~60C would be way too damn hot for a CPU in a hand held device.
