Nexus :: Unable To Change Voicemail Number
Feb 24, 2010
I picked up a Nexus One last week from someone who got it from the TED Conference. Apparently Google also gave out a SIM card with a month of service on T-Mobile. When I go to Settings / Call settings / Voicemail settings and the number shows the number that was given at the TED Conference, which is the old SIM. I keep changing it to my phone number as I am using my SIM. It takes the changes but if I reboot the phone, it reverts back to the old number.

I am having trouble changing the Voicemail number on my phone. I keep getting the error
"Voicemail number change unsuccessful. Please contact your carrier if this problem persists".
I need to change it from 901 to 111. Any ideas why it will not allow me to change it?

Can anyone with a Vibrant change their voicemail number in settings->call settings->voicemail->voicemail? I'd like to change it so when I speed dial 1 it goes to google voice. I called TM and they said I should be able to change that setting. I installed a new SIM, and I removed TM's visual voice mail. Out of ideas here. I'd at least like to know if it's like this on all Vibrants or just some Vibrants.

On HTC Inspire, how do I change the number of rings or time before an incoming call goes to VM? The default settings seem low and most of my calls are going to VM before I can get the phone answered.

Basically I'm trying to get my Wife/teens to stop using carrier text messaging without having to explain to them how to use two different applications to send texts.
Doesn't have to be Google voice, really any app that will act as the default messaging app and when texts come in over the Verizon number and they reply to the text the recipient gets the "free" text number to respond to will work - Gvoice just seemed like the easy choice.
What I'm looking to do is change the reply-to number that gets sent to text message recipients from the default messaging app, Go SMS or Handcent SMS. What I do NOT want to do is have two separate text messaging apps. I want all texts to come from one application.
The idea here is to avoid paying Verizon text messaging charges and eventually block carrier text messaging altogether by using Google voice to send/receive all SMS.
Ideally this is how it would work - When a friend sends me a txt using my Verizon number I get a notification. I click reply and then press send and one of two things happens:
1. Instead of sending the text over Verizon's network the text automatically sends it through Google voice and my friend sees my Google voice number and replies to it, essentially encouraging them to use the new phone number but seamless from my perspective.
2. Another alternative is to send the text message over Verizon's SMS network but have the reply-to number be my Google voice number so when they reply it will go through Google voice.
While #1 will more quickly reduce the number of text messages sent through the carrier network what's most important is I'm using the same app for all texting.
I don't mind purchasing an app that can do this either.
I using a rooted Galaxy Nexus.

Before I knew better I looked at the default voicemail number and said "well that's not my number." and promptly changed it. Does anyone know what the default number should be? Is it the same for all phones or should I take it to the ATT store and have them fix it? Will a factory reset solve my problems?

When I first got the phone, I incorrectly set the number then reset it soon after. It seems to default back to that first wrong number. Am using the HTC Hero on 3 (UK) network - every now and again it decides to lose or update the voicemail number it dials when I press and hold the #1 key. Have reset it more times than I care to remember.

So every time someone calls me when it gets to the point where they should be able to leave a voicemail, it asks them to enter a subscriber number. I know that at that point they need to enter my phone number to leave a VM, but is there anyway to change that so they dont need to enter my number again? Sprint support cant figure it out either...

I just got a Nexus 4 and activated it with a Straighttalk (at&t) SIMS card. I have been using Straighttalk for a while now and simply moved my cell # to this phone. I love the Nexus 4 so far although while I did something pretty silly.... I was messing around with the voicemail settings I accidentally deleted the Voicemail Number that was on the phone.
Now whenever I try to call my phone a voice message comes up which says "Sorry the person you have called does not have voice box set up ect...." Mind you that I did have a voicemail box set-up before I deleted this voicemail number on the phone. I have tried to replace the "Voicemail #" with my own cell phone number but that does not work. Also I have tried just holding down the number 1 but that same message comes up. When I call *86 it says "message cannot be completed as dialed".....

I received a GV voicemail message from a number I didn't recognize. The person leaving the message said someone had called the number. I don't know the person. My phone definitely didn't dial the number. On top of that, my phone didn't ring and the number isn't registered as a missed call. I can't see any reason why I would've gotten this voicemail.
I use Google Voice specifically for voicemail forwarding and have never used my Google Voice phone number. Any idea what the issue could be?

Has anyone seen this error or have any ideas? Tried to receive voicemail earlier today and got another error message that voicemail was not responding with an option to force close. I think I might have forced the close. Now I just keep getting that error message. Went in and looked at the settings and everything seems normal but I can not use Visual Voicemail.

remove a voicemail notification on my Galaxy Nexus with stock ICS, unrooted.
Here's the catch: the voicemail message has a registered phone number (the carrier's voicemail number). However, the carrier changed this number, so if I try to access the voicemail through the notification, the number doesn't exist anymore. Accessing the new number does not remove the notification.
Is there a way to change this?
Already tried clearing phone app data with no luck.

Is there a way we can we use the old, automated sprint voicemail recording of "you've reached the sprint voice mailbox of ###-###-####" on the Hero? I don't particularly like that I had to record my own voicemail mailbox greeting when I setup the phone and rather have the basic sprint recording that I've had on every other sprint phone I've ever owned.

I cannot change the voicemail notification sound. I go to messages ->settings scroll down to voicemail notification setting and then change the notification sound. But for some reason when I get a voicemail it plays a sound that I selected as notification sound in Sound & Display setting. The same sound that is used for email notification.

My Nexus One reports "My phone number"
(Settings => "About phone" => Status ) - as the SIM number before my "previous 'phone" number was PAC'd and ported... The PAC transfer happened about 3 weeks ago.,... The phone appears when calling anyone else as my transferred number, rings when called as the transferred number, ... but the beast reports the original, old" number. As it happens I've also done a "Factory reset" on the N1 ... Weird... so everything works as it should do, but the number is miss-reporting...
Any suggestions...e.g. ????
a) It's just one of those things, deal with it..
b) It's a known Android bug, deal with it...
c) It's a Nexus-One special, deal with it...
d) Oh! New one, report it to Mssrs Google...
e) HTC dogs all behave like this....

I am currently unable to update an existing contact record's phone number. I am able to insert a new phone number to an existing contact record but unable to delete or modify existing phone number records of a contact. Is there a way to either: - delete an existing phone number from a contact record. or - update an existing phone number of a contact record.
The sample code is as shown below:
To delete existing phone numbers of a contact record: row = getContentResolver().delete(ContentUris.withAppendedId (Phones.CONTENT_URI, uid),null,null);
Log.v(TAG,"row =" + row);
The row value is always 0 even if phone numbers are present. Thus, the deletion does not take place. To update a phone number:
Uri PersonUri = ContentUris.withAppendedId(People.CONTENT_URI, uid);
Uri PhoneUri = Uri.withAppendedPath (PersonUri,People.Phones.CONTENT_DIRECTORY);
ContentValues values = new ContentValues();
values.put(Phones.NUMBER,"1234567890");
values.put(Phones.TYPE,1);
row = getContentResolver().update(PhoneUri,values, null, null);
This throws a unsupported Operation exception.

Does anyone know how to change the amount of times their phone rings before the caller is sent to voicemail? When I call my phone from another phone it only rings four to five times before it goes to voicemail. However, when I call my wife's eris it rings six to seven times before sending to voicemail.My phone is on v3 leak and my wifes is a stock 1.5.This is really frustrating because it already takes at least two rings from the other end before my phone even acknowledges someone is calling...and yes i've changed my slot cycle down to zero...so by the time it starts ringing the ringtone only lasts about five to ten secs.not enough time at all to even try to answer.
