Suddenly some contacts disappeared from my Milestone after a synchronization. However the weird thing is that when i added manually the number of the person, automatically it brought up the photo that i previously had of the contact!

I have a UK Motorola Milestone running Android 2.1-update 1.
Yesterday all my contacts and my google accounts, to which they were synchronised, disappeared. Just like that, out of the blue.
I tried to add the google account again, but I keep getting a "can't establish reliable data connection" error. It is not a network access issue because internet and email (imap, not gmail) work fine, plus I tried with two different SIMs and with Wi-Fi, but to no avail.
I read about people deleting some files from their rooted Android and/or hard resetting their phones, but these fixes don't seem to always work and I'd rather try something else first.
I must say that, even though I like Android, I am getting very annoyed at how unreliable and buggy it has proven compared to my iphone and blackberry. Is it too much to ask to have a phone that doesn't reboot every other minute and that doesn't delete your contacts?
I am using APNdroid to deactivate-activate the 3G network so that i dont' loose credit. i tried recently to activate 3G i couldn't get it.how can i get it back?i previously downloaded an app from the market (2G 3G) then unsinstalled it. but i didn't use so i can say i didn't deactivate it before uninstalling.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am looking for a reliable solution to keep my contacts in sync with Thunderbird and my (planned) DROID-mobile. With my old Symbian-phone I am using the Funambol-services and SyncML - which works very well. I tried to import all my contact details to Google-contacts now. But unfortunately Google does not provide own fields for street, zip and city but a single address field only. Is this the same for the DROID/Android2 - or are there fields for zip and city also? Do you have any recommendations how to handle this? I noticed that the development of Funambol client (SyncML) is stalled. So there is no chance to synchronize the DROID by SyncML, correct?

- I rooted my phone about 2 weeks ago with no problems (with DoRoot)
- last night I installed rom manager and bootstrapper as well as REVOlution for Apex
- at some point, my phone contacts disappeared
- failed my attempt to revert to stock with factory data reset
- downloaded RSD lite and Dx 2.2 sbf from http://rootzwiki.com/
- installed it through the bootloader
- attempted to root (with DoRoot again) but command prompt doesn't recognize adb as an internal/external command
- I followed these directions, all 3 sections, and it still doesn't work (How To: Set Up ADB/USB Drivers for Android Devices | TheUnlockr)
Running a a droid with the stock 2.2. Sat night they all disappeared as did any call history. Tried importing from SD card and they would not sync. When I try the names flash with a progress bar saying that its syncing... but they never show up in my contacts list. Also tried importing from my gmail account and that was useless too.

View 6 Replies View RelatedIf i create a new contact and then I synchronize my contact with my Gmail account (which actually doesn't contains any contact) I supposed to have the new contact also on my Gmail account, but that's not the case. The synchronization DELETES my contact on the phone. What's the problem? Am I doing something wrong?
I have 3 accounts in my HTC Desire. Gmail (or should I call this Google?) - the automatically saved emails that GMAIL keeps when you write to a person.
Phone - which are the phone numbers saved in my phone and
Facebook - So when I go to people, I see that there's like 4 categories when I press MENU and VIEW: SIM(0) ; Google(296); Phone(731) and Facebook (460)
Ok, first weird thing is that even if I choose to View only my Phone contacts, on searches and when I write an SMS, the suggestions include their Gmail and Facebook entries too- which is quite confusing because the reason I hid them is I only want to send an SMS (yeah I know theres an option "Only contacts with phone number"). Is this really the case? Next weird thing is that: Since some of my Phone contacts are actually my Gmail and FB contacts as well, I linked them from the phone app (I clicked Link in the Menu and chose their respective contacts). Okay, so in the list, I see the name of my Phone contact and at the same time if I click on their names I see email and FB info as well (the FB profile pic shows! neat!).
However, I found out that when I try to click on Edit it still let me choose which contact I will edit, in this case: Google or Phone - I thought I linked you 2 already, so it follows that if I add an info, like, another number then it (the Phone app) should assign it to the name as a whole, right? Apparently, the Link command in Phone app only makes you "see" one name in the list- but in other processes still treats your contacts separately. Okay good- at least I know now. But When I try to Delete the contact in Phone it also deletes the Google contact but Facebook contact remains. Does it really treat them separately or as one- basically the problem is that users need to know how the Phone app actually does it's process of syncing. Or at least wouldn't it make sense, for the system to ASK you which account you would want to delete the same way it asked which one you wanted to edit (as my experience did above)? Something like "Do you wanna delete: Google, Phone or ALL?" (I know Facebook is a bit complicated so it's ok if Facebook contact editing and deletion is not totally synced for now).
The revolving icon is stopping and simply don't complete the sync. Is it becasue the 1500 contacts I have?

And from time to time I can see in my htc hero contacts different emails, that were get from gmail contacts. How to stop this? I don't want to see these emails in my HTC Hero!
View 3 Replies View RelatedI need to copy the contacts stored in my Milestone to the Sim Card. The phone settings do not seem to allow this which is bizarre given that this function is standard in almost all phones I've had before. I downloaded an app from Android called "Copy to SIM Card". When I tried to copy the contacts it just said "failed SIM locked or full". As far as I know the SIM is neither locked nor full (in fact it is empty!) so I guess the App just doesn't work.
Does anyone have any advice / ideas on how to complete this very basis task? The reason I need it is to try to syncs my Milestone with my Audi car blue tooth system which currently refuses to recognize the contacts on my phone. If anyone has had similar issues with comparability between Audi blue tooth and the Milestone I like to hear from you.
Is anyone having issues with googlemail contacts not syncing onto their milestone? I've tried the sync option, but the date/time stamp stays the same. According to my phone it synced last on 20/12 even though I have just tried now. If I then create the contact on my phone it will double it up when it does sync!

I was using the hero before and you could easily do it via vcard.For example, I want to send Mr Jones a contact number of a client, I can easily SMS him through contacts the client's contact numbers(emails and whatnots).However, this feature seems lacking on the Milestone. You can attach just about everything else except a person's contacts!Did I overlook something here? Or it just doesn't come with it?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI saved my contacts from my old handset (LG) to the SIM card. I put the SIM into my Milestone and went to contacts, went to import/export and chose Import from SIM. It showed all of my SIM contacts, and I chose Import All. At this point, a dialogue box with a progress bar comes up as it imports all of my contacts. However, when it's finished, they don't appear in my contacts list. It's set to display contacts with numbers. I bluetoothed the .vcf file from my old handset to my MacBook and then from there to the Milestone, and chose Import from SD Card, but I just get the same result. my contacts seem to appear when I type the name into the recipient box while texting but still not in the contacts list, meaning I can't call them and come to think of it, receiving texts from people who should be on my contacts, their name shows up.

View 3 Replies View Relatedso I just convinced my boss that we should switch from our costly Ms exchange solution to google apps, as it can do all the same stuff we need and more. We all have Android phones and I have set up my HTC Desire (Android 2.2 sense UI) to sync with my google apps account, no problem.However my boss have the Motorola Milestone, and his android version just won�t sync with his google account. Every time I try adding a google account with his mail address (name@ourdomain.dk), I just get a �no network connection� error. But I can browse internet and youtube just fine.I have searched the forums, and it seems other people can add their google apps accounts just fine, while some have problems.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am using Motorola Milestone UK version with AT & T. G Mail and Yahoo etc work fine. Data plan also work perfect wih At&T 2G. AT&T 3 G can not use with Milestone because 3 G band of AT & T is not supoerted by Milestone.
However, real problem is that when I call anybody, he always finds my voice breaks on Milestone. When I switch to speaker they find my voice perfect. I can hear their voice clearly. Any body has same problem.
Secondly, I would like to dowload "Car Home" app which is available with Droid. It is not available in Market place. When I try to see how it is intsalled in my friend's droid, it shows 0 KB. Does this app is part of Android for Verizon. When I dock the phone in Car dock, as I dont have Car home app so phone does not pop up Navigation window which is part of Car Home. I can use Google Map manually. This is not big problem.
I had most of my contacts in groups (Family, Friends, VIP, Co-Workers) and some in the ALL section. When adding a contact sometimes, the phone seemed to be a little buggy and finicky when deciding whether it actually wanted to classify the contact in the group i assigned it to or just leave it on that first set of "ALL". So i went through and unassigned all grouped contacts from any group, thinking they'd just sit in the ALL section. (I'm talking about the stock People app on the phone, btw) So anyway, they're not there. They're just gone from the People app all-together. All the info and pictures are still present in my call history and when i select one of them, the contact still exists and i can add them back into any of the groups, but not just have them show up in the ALL section.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is the second time this has happened. All of the sudden, without warning, all my contacts are gone. I sent a text not 10 mins ago, at that point everybody who I'd texted had their names and photos next to the texts. Now, I'm left with just a bunch of numbers. I checked my "Contacts" app, and it's empty. It did the same thing about a week ago, but it was early and I had a Nandroid backup from the night before, so I only lost about two texts. My last backup is from two days ago, too much for me to restore back that far. Any idea a) WHY this would happen, as randomly as it did? and b) How to get back any contacts that might not transfer from a GMail/Facebook Sync? Would this be a problem with the phone, or something I did to the phone that would make it do this literally randomly?
I guess I'll throw in that I mainly use Handcent, have ChompSMS on here as well, and haven't used the default messaging app since I downloaded Handcent. I also am no longer able to sync Facebook it appears.
Also, contacts are the only thing missing. All other data is still there, along with all apps and even my homescreen layout is still intact.
I bought my fionce a samsung moment. She loved it, touch screen keyboard. Well i've taken her to the first step of up to date phones and this darn thing is frustrating! I'm pretty smart when it comes to phones and computers...but wow. It was overwhelming just for me, so imagine how she feels!
We just got her the phone yesterday and got it working, but I had to do a factory restore with sprint to get google going. The guy was really cool and helpful.
So this morning I got a text after she took the girls to school and she was heading to work that all her contacts we're gone. I've read on other posts to put all other contacts checked and it should be fine. So hopefully it works. Is there a way to save contacts to the mirco SD card at all? I'm just trying to look for better solutions. I see a lot of the same problems on here that I'm having. I don't know where to start. I've dabbed around with linux (mainly ubuntu) but that was 4 years ago and my linux memory has fried. Rooting her phone my be dangerous for me to do.
All my 300 odd phone contacts disappeared without a trace, luckily I had synced earlier! Is this a common issue, does anyone know what happened?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Samsung Galaxy S, international version, not SIM-locked, not rooted, running Android 2.1-update1. Today I suddenly noticed that my Contacts icon has disappeared from the bottom bar (so I'm not talking about any widgets or shortcuts which the user can manipulate, it's the one which is supposed to sit between the Phone and Messaging icons). The contact data hasn't gone anywhere, I can access contacts through the Phone app, but the missing Contacts icon still bothers me.
I have updated a bunch of apps recently - all of which I have used for a long time before without any problems, such as: Advanced Task Cleaner Pro, Smart Keyboard, Layar, Google Maps, KeePassDroid, Retro Camera and maybe something else too. Today I also erased the trial version of the dictionary app SlovoEd Deluxe and installed the paid version.
Now, should I try to erase the (free) apps one by one to see if that solves the problem, or do I have to go for a hard reset/return to factory settings straight away?
i was using handcent sms all fine. until yesterday when i updated the app. my contacts name shown in the app disappeared!!

View 1 Replies View RelatedSomehow the contacts widget that used to be along the bottom of my screen has disappeared.When I hit applications (circle with six dots in it), then select widgets, I find the Contact widget.When I select and hold, it takes me back to the original screen, and if I hoover over the regular application background or the bottom dock, it makes a green rectangle, seeming to indicate that it is ready to be dropped. However, after I drop it, it just launches Contact, then the widget is gone.
