Motorola Droid X :: Adb Not Recognized - Contacts Disappeared

Nov 4, 2010

I just found out about this, so this really isn't a problem anymore. Feel free to lock this. I was going to write a wall of text, but I'll just skip to tl;dr.

- I rooted my phone about 2 weeks ago with no problems (with DoRoot)
- last night I installed rom manager and bootstrapper as well as REVOlution for Apex
- at some point, my phone contacts disappeared
- failed my attempt to revert to stock with factory data reset
- downloaded RSD lite and Dx 2.2 sbf from http://rootzwiki.com/
- installed it through the bootloader
- attempted to root (with DoRoot again) but command prompt doesn't recognize adb as an internal/external command
- I followed these directions, all 3 sections, and it still doesn't work (How To: Set Up ADB/USB Drivers for Android Devices | TheUnlockr)

Motorola Milestone :: Contacts Disappeared - Cannot Add Google Account Back

Oct 23, 2010

I have a UK Motorola Milestone running Android 2.1-update 1.
Yesterday all my contacts and my google accounts, to which they were synchronised, disappeared. Just like that, out of the blue.

I tried to add the google account again, but I keep getting a "can't establish reliable data connection" error. It is not a network access issue because internet and email (imap, not gmail) work fine, plus I tried with two different SIMs and with Wi-Fi, but to no avail.

I read about people deleting some files from their rooted Android and/or hard resetting their phones, but these fixes don't seem to always work and I'd rather try something else first.

I must say that, even though I like Android, I am getting very annoyed at how unreliable and buggy it has proven compared to my iphone and blackberry. Is it too much to ask to have a phone that doesn't reboot every other minute and that doesn't delete your contacts?

Motorola Droid 2 :: USB Not Recognized FAX

Nov 15, 2010

The USB connection was working fine. A couple of days ago, I wanted to try to send a FAX. I connected the phone to my computer and set it to PC Mode on the connection menu. The modem wasn't recognized. Ever since then, my pc won't recognize the phone. I have done battery pulls, pc reboots, driver uninstall and reinstalls. Occasionally, it will recognize the phone. I have put the phone back into mass storage mode. Any ideas. I don't know if I can return this, since it is a dealer plan phone, not from Verizon. It's not a deal-breaker, just a pain when I need to transfer photos or videos.

Motorola Droid X :: Not Recognized By Laptop

Oct 24, 2010

This is weird. My wife and I both have droid x's purchased same day. I connected my wifes X to my laptop, the laptap goes through the install process and tells me that I'm missing a driver. I also notice that the X is charging. I disconnected it and connected my X and nothing. No charge no attempt to install. I have the debugg checked on both X's. Why will it atleast charge on one X and not the other? What do I need to do to my X. I also touched the usb icon on my X and tried each option and nothing either.

Android :: Connected Motorola Droid Not Recognized By Adb

Aug 11, 2010

I am trying to connect a Verizon Motorola Droid (Android 2.1) to my computer and Run my application on the device. I have followed the instructions on developer.android.com about how to "install the USB driver" and "set up the device for development".Specifically, I installed the Usb driver from whithin Eclipse (galileo) using the Adnroid SDK and AVD Manager. (I checked adb at this time and no recognition.) Then I installed the driver in windows (XP) via Start > Control Panel > Add Hardware. The windows installation seemed to work because during or after the installation of the C:android-sdk-windowsusb_driver some window came up and announced that the "adb bla.. bla." was installed successfully. On the device I have enabled debugging via Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging is checked. I also bring down the tri fork thing and "mount" the sdcard. I can successfully copy files to and from the device sdcard.

My application successfully runs on the ADV and I can access the ADV sdcard using "adb push" and "adb shell".With the moto droid connected, mounted, etc, if I run the command prompt adb command "adb devices" the resulting list is empty. No devices recognized. With the ADV running and the moto droid connected, mounted, etc, if I run the command prompt adb command "adb devices" the resulting list shows only the "emulator-5554 device". (this is the same thing it shows if the moto droid is not connected and only the ADV is running). If I "Run" from Ecipse with the device connected, debugging, and mounted, an instance of the ADV is launched and the program runs on the ADV, not the device.I cannot get anything to recognize that the device is connected. My conclusion is that the android debug bridge, adb, is not recognizing the device.I would appreciate any suggestions on how to get adb to recognize and work with my device.

HTC Incredible :: Contacts Disappeared

Jun 14, 2010

I had most of my contacts in groups (Family, Friends, VIP, Co-Workers) and some in the ALL section. When adding a contact sometimes, the phone seemed to be a little buggy and finicky when deciding whether it actually wanted to classify the contact in the group i assigned it to or just leave it on that first set of "ALL". So i went through and unassigned all grouped contacts from any group, thinking they'd just sit in the ALL section. (I'm talking about the stock People app on the phone, btw) So anyway, they're not there. They're just gone from the People app all-together. All the info and pictures are still present in my call history and when i select one of them, the contact still exists and i can add them back into any of the groups, but not just have them show up in the ALL section.

Samsung Captivate :: All Contacts Disappeared

Aug 25, 2010

This is the second time this has happened. All of the sudden, without warning, all my contacts are gone. I sent a text not 10 mins ago, at that point everybody who I'd texted had their names and photos next to the texts. Now, I'm left with just a bunch of numbers. I checked my "Contacts" app, and it's empty. It did the same thing about a week ago, but it was early and I had a Nandroid backup from the night before, so I only lost about two texts. My last backup is from two days ago, too much for me to restore back that far. Any idea a) WHY this would happen, as randomly as it did? and b) How to get back any contacts that might not transfer from a GMail/Facebook Sync? Would this be a problem with the phone, or something I did to the phone that would make it do this literally randomly?

I guess I'll throw in that I mainly use Handcent, have ChompSMS on here as well, and haven't used the default messaging app since I downloaded Handcent. I also am no longer able to sync Facebook it appears.
Also, contacts are the only thing missing. All other data is still there, along with all apps and even my homescreen layout is still intact.

Samsung Moment :: Contacts Disappeared

Feb 22, 2010

I bought my fionce a samsung moment. She loved it, touch screen keyboard. Well i've taken her to the first step of up to date phones and this darn thing is frustrating! I'm pretty smart when it comes to phones and computers...but wow. It was overwhelming just for me, so imagine how she feels!

We just got her the phone yesterday and got it working, but I had to do a factory restore with sprint to get google going. The guy was really cool and helpful.

So this morning I got a text after she took the girls to school and she was heading to work that all her contacts we're gone. I've read on other posts to put all other contacts checked and it should be fine. So hopefully it works. Is there a way to save contacts to the mirco SD card at all? I'm just trying to look for better solutions. I see a lot of the same problems on here that I'm having. I don't know where to start. I've dabbed around with linux (mainly ubuntu) but that was 4 years ago and my linux memory has fried. Rooting her phone my be dangerous for me to do.

Motorola Droid X :: Dialer Disappeared

Nov 25, 2010

Been running Rubix since 1.6 release. Recently updated to 1.8.9. Been running it for a day then decided to theme it. I put Buyers Beware on it and ran it for half a day. Ran great!! Saved a backup and then flashed back to my bare 1.8.9 backup and installed Sinful Blue theme. Ran this theme for a day. Last night I noticed that my Settings menu was missing. It wasn't there. Couldn't find it anywhere. Opened spare part to look at battery info and it forced closed. Then I noticed that everything in spare parts FC'ed. Fed up I flashed back my good Buyers Beware backup. Once rebooted there was no service. Funny, unlocked the phone and there is no dialer. It says that application isn't loaded on my phone. Also my contacts app is gone. Gettin' worried. Flashed back to my bare 1.8.9 backup and everything works great. For kicks and giggles I rebooted recovery and loaded the Buyers Beware theme again, the one that worked great when I first installed....NO DIALER AGAIN! Back to bare 1.8.9 I go.

Is it do to rooting or is it happening to anyone else?

Samsung Galaxy S :: Contacts Icon Disappeared

Oct 28, 2010

I have a Samsung Galaxy S, international version, not SIM-locked, not rooted, running Android 2.1-update1. Today I suddenly noticed that my Contacts icon has disappeared from the bottom bar (so I'm not talking about any widgets or shortcuts which the user can manipulate, it's the one which is supposed to sit between the Phone and Messaging icons). The contact data hasn't gone anywhere, I can access contacts through the Phone app, but the missing Contacts icon still bothers me.

I have updated a bunch of apps recently - all of which I have used for a long time before without any problems, such as: Advanced Task Cleaner Pro, Smart Keyboard, Layar, Google Maps, KeePassDroid, Retro Camera and maybe something else too. Today I also erased the trial version of the dictionary app SlovoEd Deluxe and installed the paid version.

Now, should I try to erase the (free) apps one by one to see if that solves the problem, or do I have to go for a hard reset/return to factory settings straight away?

HTC Hero :: Doesn't Recognized Contacts / Just Shows Numbers When On In / Outgoing Call

Jul 8, 2010

Im also having many problems after update to 2.1.

1. (and most annoying)- Black screen on incoming calls. Phone just freezes on black screen and I just cant answer the phone or do anything else for that matter. Just have to remove the back cover and battery.

2. lot less free memory after the update. using taskkiller but still- even after killing all non-system processes i have about 30MBs less memory

3. google maps, footprints, people, peep, stocks, gmail and some others keep opening by themselves, though ive killed the apps with appkiller.

4. so-many-mentioned lag on making calls. also. every-now-and-then while on call it makes another call to the same person and puts active one on hold...

5. does not recocnise some contacts and just shows their numbers when on in or outgoing call.

I've done several reeboots and also some hard resets on the device but still no use.Seriously concidering switching over to rooted ROM...

Motorola Droid X :: Text Messaging History Disappeared After 2.2 Upgrade

Sep 24, 2010

I upgraded to the 2.2 os. Things have been slow/glitchy off and on since then. My text messaging notifications are now spotty, especially the sound, whereas before they worked great. The worst though, is that I discovered that all my text messaging history appears to have vanished beyond about 10 days ago. Before the update, my history was there from July 15, the day I got my phone. I have lost some very important texts. Does anyone know if there is any way to recover this? I have found messages in the forums about text messages being stored in the contact history even after deletion, but I have checked there and the history only goes back the same length as my text messages now, about 10 days or so. I am very upset about losing the message history for some of my important contacts.
