I had to change my password on gmail. Did it on the computer and it works but on the Droid I get a message saying user name or password incorrect. Anyone else have this problem and find a fix?

I had to change the password for my Gmail account. I can't seem to figure out how to change the password on the phone. The only option I see is to reset the phone. I can't delete and reinstall the gmail account because it is the default account for the phone. I really hope I don't have to reset this thing.

For a few real and a few imagined problems yesterday I went on-line and changed my gmail password. Then I tried to find on my X where to update the new password. After looking in what I thought was everywhere I called tech support and they said it was hard coded. I would need to "wipe" the phone and start fresh. Some words about lost data as well.
He suggested tring to get back to the original password which gmail allowed without resetting a few more times. After thinking about this though, there are more than a few good reasons to change passwords and this seems a bit on the dumb side to me.
Was he wrong or is the OS wrong to have this hard wired? Since Google runs this whole thing doesn't it seem like they should make it a tad more user friendly if that is the case?
GF picked up LG Ally, verizon rep transferred her contacts from her previous phone to the Ally - all was fine. A day later she needed to change her gmail password, which she did - the phone complained about a sync error, asked for her new password and gmail sync worked again. (So far the same as my Inc). After changing the password, she noticed that on the Contacts tab, only one person, herself, is displayed. Looking in the call log and performing searches, we see that all of the previous contacts are, in fact, still stored in the phone somewhere. I have tried changing which groups of contacts sync with the phone, pretty much everything with the exception of a factory reset.

I then went into the Google Mail application and can see its not showing any emails in the inbox and its not downloading any mail in "All items" either. Its only showing emails prior to the update. If I hit refresh it spins for a few moments and I see the data arrows indicate transfer but it doesnt refresh the inbox.

View 18 Replies View RelatedMy emails are showing up in the gmail app at sporadic intervals; sometimes they show up immediately while other times I only receive the email if I refresh within the app itself. I noticed this after I manually did the update last Friday on my Eris. Emails are showing up rather quickly on 3G, but hardly at all on wifi. I'm testing this by sending myself emails to the gmail account from a non-gmail account on the laptop. I saw over in the Moto Droid forum that some users there are experiencing gmail push slowness/problems.
View 5 Replies View Relatedi just got my droid back from being flashed to cricket and i gave the man who did it the wrong password for my gmail account. so he made me a new one. it wont let me delete it says because it has something to do with apps. im trying to setup my other account so i can get all my paid apps back. i dont mind having the new account but would like my other one for the apps.it wants me to do a reset to erase all user data but ill loose flash files if i do. any ideas?

But I noticed that if I change a contact on the Droid the changes are NOT synced back to Gmail.
At the moment if I look on the Droid for Contacts/Accounts/ me@gmail.com, I see Sync is ON, Calendar is synced up to present time, Mail is synced up to present, but Contacts are synced until 2. December only!
The sync symbol appears at Contacts, but the date and time isn't changing, it stays at 2. December.
I know this could be done on earlier phones, but I can't find a way to change my main gmail account on the Droid (Android 2.01) without doing a factory reset. Anyone know how to do this?If a factory reset is the only way, what's the best way to do a backup/restore?

The password screen locks and when it asks for the user name and password it states invalid user name / password!
Is this a known problem since when I called and talked to both Verizon and HTC the only thing they could tell me was to do a hard reset and they weren't aware of this problem?
