first of all the people that say it will only work 50 feet away. That's not true. if you read the instructions you have to be 50 feet away the first time you sync and then after that it goes up to 5000 feet. i got one for $99 and I am very happy. The only thing I have to ask if it is normal is.... My signal will be 1 bar until I am on a phone call and then will go up to full bars. Is this normal for the extender?

So I switched to verizon from ATT for (go figure) their network. yet the signal strength in my house seems pretty shoddy. outside my house is pretty good. must be something with the walls. has anybody bought/used the network extender and had positive results?

Compared to my old house about 2 miles away (just moved last week) I would have full bars and my batter would last 16hrs before hitting yellow. So I think I need a network booster. First, do they actually work? Second, if so what is a good recommendation. Third, do they boost boost data evdo signal too or just voice?
View 28 Replies View RelatedI decided to perform a factory reset on my Droid the other day simply because I was having a contact sync issue. I was having the problem where changes in Gmail would sync to the phone but changes/adds/removes on the phone wouldn't sync back to Gmail. Sync records on the phone showed it was days since the last successful sync. So I cleaned up my contacts on Gmail and did a factory reset on the phone. When I tried to activate, it failed to program the phone. I tried it numerous times and did options 1, 2 and 3, all failed.
To make a long story short for now, I believe my problem had to do with a neighbor having a VZW Network Extender. After googling for a few things I noticed someone who talked about problems activating with a network extender. They mentioned after dialing you get a two note beep when the call connects. I noticed this while at home but wasn't entirely sure. I read about this while at work so I made a call while there and noticed no beep. Once I got home sure enough, a two tone beep. So hopefully this helps others considering I wasted over an hour on the phone with VZW Customer Service. Although I will admit, I had a human on the phone within a couple of minutes, they were really polite and never did any cold transfers. VZW had me do a hard reset and a manual activation. Well, after reading these forums for a month, I broke down Tuesday and grabbed myself a DROID! On the plus side, it's EVERYTHING you guys said it would be and more...
On the minus side, even though the Verizon rep, according to their map, shows A+ service in my area, I get nothing. Zero. Zilch. Notta.
Fortunately, Verizon is about 6 minutes from my home, so a rep (props to Verizon!), came out to verify. He confirmed, no service.
They sold me an Extender at half price ($125 total -- but ok, why not free?), and that seems to work for the phone service. Went from no bars to 4 bars, and I'm using my wifi for web surfing.
I used the phone at work and showed it off like a proud daddy with a newborn baby.
On Friday our home internet was out, so that meant that we had no Droid phone and no Droid web over wifi, since the extender works only with broadband. That was an eye-opener. Almost scary. It's weird how disconnected and quiet it feels when you don't have that "connected" feeling to the outside world, even though we are less than 10 minutes from the big city!
Fortunately, my wife has a cellphone through another carrier, so at least we had something to use in case of emergency.
Bottom line, I've grown to respect you guy's opinion. If this situation was happening with you, would you keep the Droid or look for something else that you knew would always have reception in your home without depending on your home wireless provider or relying on an extender?
For some strange reason I can't seem to set-up my personal e-mail account on this Droid phone. I click on "e-mail", I type in my e-mail address and my password, and then I click "next". And then I get a message that says my username and/or password does not match. But I am positive it does, as I have gone online to test it. I have tried retyping my username and passwrod over and over again without any success. I can't get passed that screen.
I have Verizon FiOS at my house, so my e-mail is set-up through Verizon/Yahoo.
My droid x signal pretty much always between -92dBm and -87dBm with 1-3 3g bars. My former droid eris would get -92dBm with 1 bar and also drain incredibly fast.
On the droid x, if I go into google maps, the circle of the cell tower appears and the place I live at is half way within the edge of the circle and the other half is outside of the circle. I always seem to be connected to this tower. Bad luck I guess that I'm on the outskirts of the circle.
Does anyone know how cell towers are distributed? Do they overlap sometimes?
I run pandora with the screen off for a half hour with the screen off and my battery is down to 70%. I have about 15% screen brightness and battery saving mode on.
yesterday, I was on meebo for an hour and 45 minutes and it was down to 60% from a full charge.
I'm wondering if this is a common verizon thing or a phone thing.Every time the verizon signal is lost or detected my music pauses for a split second. this becomes very annoying while commuting to and from work everyday underground where the signal is lost and gained about 17 times due to the depth of the subway. how can i fix this? this is not an email sync issue but a carrier signal detection issue.

Or do they glow with pride, knowing that they have developed something that struck a creative chord with so many people and that their product is something we just can't get enough of? It just may be some of the Moto-gurus themselves who prompt and post some of the modifications and changes that get us nudged into one astonishing direction or another. My signal strength fluctuates wildly just sitting in the same spot. With the Hero I got a constant 5 of 6 bars, but the Moment will vary between 0 and 5 of 6 bars. But it's more complicated than that.
It seems that whenever the EVDO data kicks in, it causes the signal strength to drop to 0 or 1 bar. Once the data is idle, the EVDO indicator turns grey and then changes from EV(^v) to EV(D). At that point the single strength will return to 3 or 4 bars.
At times, though not as consistently or often, the EVDO connection will fall back to 1xRTT and will switch between them every few minutes. This will occur even when the signal strength bars are in the 3 to 4 range.
So, the my questions are...
Does the signal strength apply to the data signal or just the voice signal?
Is there any legitimate reason for the signal strength to vary wildly like I've described, even when sitting in the same recliner where the Hero had a constant 5 bar connection and data service that never wavered?
Is anyone else having signal strength and/or data service issues?
Should I exchange the Moment for another Moment or will I likely experience the same issue?
Does anyone have this case from Verizon? It has a magnetic closer and I need to know if it turns the X on.

Went through quite a hassle with Verizon trying to get it replaced.They kept telling me a new one would be here by "Tuesday", no phone, call again, should be here by "Friday", no phone...OK, now i'm frustrated. Finally on Monday, a box from Verizon, and surprise, it's a new Droid 2 YAY. Now on Tuesday, another delivery with a box from Verizon, with yes...another Droid 2. That was almost 3 months ago. The second Droid 2 has just sat on my desk, no charges from Verizon, no phone call or anything asking for it back.Today, my son drops the in use Droid 2 phone and it shattered and it's not working. So, I say to myself, no problem I have a brand new one on my desk. My concern is that if I activate it, it will trigger some thing with Verizon and I will then be charged $500 bucks for the phone. What do you all think? Have I actually got a free 2nd phone, or is it just a pretty paper weight.

Anyway, I was messing with freezing stuff in Titanium backup, and I wanted to freeze the VZW Backup Assistant. It worked, but in the process when I rebooted the phone, all of my contacts were gone.
Now in Titanium, there are two versions appearing. 1.0 and 2.2. (I froze both). When I defrosted them and rebooted the phone, the backup app came back. When I tried to sync (thinking it will pull whatever I had in my Verizon account, it did not). I guess it just syncs what you have on the phone vs. pulling down when you have online.
Anyway, just logged into my VZW account and all my contacts are indeed gone.
Now, is there something hidden somewhere in the phone where I can get them back? A file or something?
If not then...
I have my Droid Incredible (not activated at the moment) with all of my contacts. Is there a file or way to export that data from my Incredible and import it back into my X?
If you need any more questions answered please let me know. Worst case scenario is I have to manually add them all back. I chalk it up as a learning experience.
The Verizon Flash Update keeps trying to install on my Bugless Beast .4 phone. When I click "install" it reboots the phone, and tries to install but fails on the install and goes straight to Clockwork Recovery Mode. Then a couple days later it tells me to install the update again.
Does anybody know of a way to disable the update notification or successfully install the update so that it will stop bothering me?
I got the Motorola Droid on Friday night. After playing with it, I just cant use it because the font size is to small and there seems to be no global font increase. I want to return the phone for a refund and put my plan back to the way it was, and reactivate my old phone, think verizon will do this for me?

I cannot access the boot recovery screen and the power button that puts the device to sleep has some sort of software glitch that requirers to press the power button numerous times to wake up the screen.. Otherwise the the device works fine.. I have managed to remove the SU .apk.. The only other changes I made while it has been rooted is to remove VVM, MP3 app and cooperate calander which are still hidden.. What do you think will be the outcome of this debaucle?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI was lied to by Verizon. When I upgraded I was told that my current 6 dollar plan would cover my phone the same way my old phone was covered. Luckily I called today and found out the truth. They offer a 6 dollar plan that does indeed cover the Droid. It only will cover it for 1 Year. Outside of a year then you are not covered at all. So thinking logically I asked about the 9 dollar plan and was told it does cover you outside of the 1 year warranty. Here comes the stupid part, you are forced to purchase either one of these plans within 30 days of getting the phone even though you are technically covered under the manu warranty for 1 year. So basically you need to pay verizon 108 dollars for a years worth of coverage when your phone is technically already covered. Does anyone else see an issue with this
View 36 Replies View RelatedThis is the second Droid that has started freezing on me and I have checked all of my apps individually and I have soft reset and factory reset twice....still keeps freezing when trying to return to home screen.(screen goes black and does nothing). So I called the VZ rep and he was extremely helpful. Instead of sending a refurb, he sent me a brand new droid. It wont be here until Monday (due to the holidays) but I was quite impressed with their customer service.
