Motorola Droid :: Verizon Insurance Plan
Dec 9, 2009
I was lied to by Verizon. When I upgraded I was told that my current 6 dollar plan would cover my phone the same way my old phone was covered. Luckily I called today and found out the truth. They offer a 6 dollar plan that does indeed cover the Droid. It only will cover it for 1 Year. Outside of a year then you are not covered at all. So thinking logically I asked about the 9 dollar plan and was told it does cover you outside of the 1 year warranty. Here comes the stupid part, you are forced to purchase either one of these plans within 30 days of getting the phone even though you are technically covered under the manu warranty for 1 year. So basically you need to pay verizon 108 dollars for a years worth of coverage when your phone is technically already covered. Does anyone else see an issue with this

I think it's $7 per month and has a $80 deductible. Do you guys usually go with or without it?

Almost two months ago I bought an Eris (pristine condition) off someone on Craigslist. About an month ago Verizon had open enrollment for insurance.thus I was able to buy insurance on my phone for $8 bucks a month!Just though I'd let everyone know...recommend checking with Verizon regarding their open enrollment.

What plan will this phone require on Verizon?I mean assuming you want the full experience. Will there be an option to add an unlimited data plan to existing plans (especially a family plan?)

Was just comparing the two data plans. The T&C is here:About Us Facts-at-a-Glance Acceptable use policy: Acceptable Use Policy They are listing it as "Unlimited Data Usage" plan and with my discount it's $35 a month.3) VOIP is mentioned as an acceptable protocol! This really surprised me.

As much as I dislike bringing up the word iPhone, I know it has a nice little thing built in that keeps track of your text / voice usage in comparison to whatever plan you have. Considering I'm on a family plan and didn't get a whole lot of texts (yay for google talk!), it'd be nice if I could quickly and easily check my usage Anyone know if there is an app for this / something that verizon has that supports this?

How is verizon able to get away with tacking on $30 extra on top of the data plan for unlimited email & web browsing? If I cancel this will they block http & smtp from my phone when on the network? I assume I'd be good with wi-fi.Would they block widgets and other apps that use http protocol?
Can the web browser be set up to use a proxy?

I'm looking to pick up a Droid (with no contract... my wallet says ouch) but its okay because I can partially offset the costs by selling my current phone) . My family made the rushed decision to switch to Verizon in October and I ended up getting the Samsung Rogue. I currently have the family plan + a basic texting plan (200 or 300 messages a month, I forgot which one lol) + 25MB Basic Data. Would I be able to activate the Droid via the Verizon website or by phone without having to add anything extra. I know they will probably ask me to get the unlimited data, but I was wondering if there is anyway around this? I really like my rogue, but it doesn't compare to Droid. The rogue has no wifi , and its GPS is completely limited due to VZW Navigator, Not to mention the Android OS + Apps + 5MP Camera

I've never had a smartphone before and am thinking of potentially buying a Nexus One. Its a big investment and with bringing it around everywhere I am afraid that I might break or lose it. I am wondering what insurance options there is out there. How is Verizon's insurance? Can you get insurance through your home owners insurer? Any other options out there? How much is the deductable?

As many news sources have indicated Verizon is set to eliminate the unlimited data plan in the next month or so.Will this change allow current Verizon customers to get out of their contract without a penalty?Source: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/07/21/verizon-data-plan-changes_n_654481.htmlVia Verizon (Customer Agreement)Can Verizon Wireless Change This Agreement or My Service? We may change prices or any other term of your Service or this agreement at any time, but we'll provide notice first, including written notice if you have Postpay Service. If you use your Service after the change takes effect, that means you're accepting the change. Curious what plans everyone has or is planning to get? At present I have no contract.I just went on VerizonWireless.com and picked a random smartphone and set up a mock plan- total monthly bill came out to $117.97 a month!Does that sound rediculous? The plan includes: 900 minutes +nights and weekends+5 friends+ unlimited texts 79.99 Unlimited Dataplan 29.99 Total Insurance 7.99 TOTAL: 117.97 How can I get a better deal? Or is that what everyone else is going to do?I have the ability to join a friends Family Plan, would that be wise?

The title says it all: has anyone had any experience with Worth Ave phone insurance?Googling doesn't turn up very many discussions of the insurance, however it does look pretty good on paper. If you've had an experience with in, please give some details. What did you insure? How much did you pay? Did you have to make any claims? If so, how did the claims process go, and what was the result? Have you noticed anything about Worth Ave insurance that you think may go unnoticed if not looking closely Any and all information is helpful.

For some strange reason I can't seem to set-up my personal e-mail account on this Droid phone. I click on "e-mail", I type in my e-mail address and my password, and then I click "next". And then I get a message that says my username and/or password does not match. But I am positive it does, as I have gone online to test it. I have tried retyping my username and passwrod over and over again without any success. I can't get passed that screen.
I have Verizon FiOS at my house, so my e-mail is set-up through Verizon/Yahoo.

This summer I am going to four different countries in Europe for a vacation. I was planning on bringing my Droid to mainly take pics/videos, listen to my music, and send some texts. Maybe make 1 or 2 emergency calls and thats about it. I know we have the NATIONWIDE SELECT FAMILY SHARE SECONDARY 2100 plan, but not sure how that will carry out in Europe. I need to go into Verizon to make sure, but was hoping to get a idea of how it will work out there from here. Do I get charged out the rear for anything I do, data, texts, calls?

I just got the Motorola Droid from Verizon with their data plan. Both at home and work, I can access the internet with wifi. Is there any advantage to using one over the other (obviously I use the data plan when wifi isn't available)? The data plan is one monthly fee that I had to pay anyway, but I didn't know if there was something I was missing?

There's been a lot of talk about this lately, so when I was on the line with a Verizon rep I thought I'd ask. Granted Verizon reps aren't always the most knowledgeable so take this for what it's worth.I asked about the data plan and she confirmed that it's the Air cards that are limited to 5GB. Currently there's no limit for phones. I then asked about tethering. She told me that since the Droid doesn't do tethering there are no limits. I inquired about third party apps that provide tethering and she responded saying that because those apps are not provided by Verizon they are not considered tethering, rather falling under the data category and are therefore unlimited.

Just got the DROID X from Verizon and have the small 150Mb plan. I am looking to stop all unnecessary data usage unless I specifically want to use it. I have removed the news and weather widgets from my home screen and turned off "data enabled" and "background data" in settings/data delivery. I am around wifi all day so I can enable that if I want to download an app.Is there anything else anyone can recommend or will that stop the majority of back and forth data transfer from the phone?

Just got my DX yesterday and have been reading up on the various droid forums and stumbled across this little gem of information and people. I think I've developed a plan of attack for rooting it to eventually end up on Froyo 2.3.13.
1. Root the phone using universalandroot
Should I make a backup of my 2.1 using TiBu or ROM Manager, or does it not really matter considering I'd need to be on 2.1 to restore?
2. Update to Froyo 2.2 using this thread Is it safe to assume that I'll have adb after using "universalandroot"?
3. Update to Froyo 2.3.13 using this thread
4. Load one of the marvelous looking themes (I hadn't seen any issues, but anyone on 2.3 yet having issues with themes for 2.2?)
Also, I heard/read that the Swype keyboard changes when switching from 2.1 to 2.2. Is there any way to keep the 2.1 black fat key look or is it inevitable to switch to the, from what I've read, smaller white keyboard? Clarification on that rumor would be fantastic. I have experience flashing my old i910 (Original Sammy Omnia), and am terribly excited to get on the droid bandwagon now, just want to make sure that my plan seems feasible and that if there's anything else I should know, I'd greatly appreciate advice now. Is my list too simplistic, because it seems after reading everything, that I may be oversimplifying things, but figured I'd check with some of you experts before I go bork my phone on my own.

Alright, so I recently purchased the droid and I am looking to put in on Boost CDMA for their unlimited plan.I can pull the PRL off of a boost phone that I am using right now (I think) and have an esn of an old boost phone can I can use for a switch so it is recognized in the database. I own both phones so I don't see any issue with this. My question is; is rooting the phone necessary for this to work. I would think so, but I am not sure. I have seen people flash the droid over to cricket, virgin, page plus, metro pcs, so why not boost mobile? I am just looking for some feedback from people more knowledgeable than me. This is my first android phone, so I am quite ignorant in all things android. I flashed an HTC TP2 over to boost, so I am hoping I can do the same with the droid.

If so, do you think they shake their heads in disgust that we have to change or enhance everything they do? Or do they glow with pride, knowing that they have developed something that struck a creative chord with so many people and that their product is something we just can't get enough of? It just may be some of the Moto-gurus themselves who prompt and post some of the modifications and changes that get us nudged into one astonishing direction or another. I can think of several helpful members here now that I would not be a bit surprised if I found that they were co-creators and architects of the Droid. Hats off and thanks to you, either way! If you guys are out there reading this thread. you guys rule!
