Apr 14, 2010
So my incredibly gay school blocks cell signal.. and has crazy web filters, blocking most youtube vids, facebook, twitter etc. Is there a way to set up a proxy to avoid those annoying filters?

I'm having some trouble with my Uni's WiFi in that it needs to use a manual proxy address to access properly. I've had a wee fiddle with many things and had a look on the marketplace but there doesn't seem to be anything that can help? (I'm still running 2.1 un-rooted btw)

i love my school's wifi, but they have a p2p block that will kick me off my connection if i try to use it. Can i use the wifi tether after connecting to school internet and then connect my laptop to the droidx? will the speeds be comparable to me just connecting straight to wifi? and is there any ways that the p2p filter still might catch me or will this method work? i guess i'll try it anyways and play dumb if i get kicked off my saying "oh, someone must have connected through my phone's wifi tether app"

I can't use WiFi at work (a uni) as it needs a proxy address. Has anyone found an app to allow proxy settings input? It's a real bad failing for such a great device. I know Android 2.1 doesn't support as standard. Am gutted by their inability to work on this

I need to create a list view that display same functionality as Contact App. I need to have a scroller through which i can traverse the list alphabetically. To achieve this i am following an example from API demos "com.example.android.apis.view.List1.java". It is using a textfilter. When i implement this functionality on a static list view => it is working fine. But when i try this on a dynamic listview=> it is not working.

I have some spots in office and home that WIFI signal is strong enough for me to locate it but not strong enough for actually having internet access, and so it causes me to not have an internet access at all since 3G is disabled for WIFI but WIFI is dead. The option on the Advanced for "Avoid Poor connection" seems to work only for REALLY BAD signal, and a little bit more than that it approves. Is there a way to edit it? re-arrange it so it will avoid "Fair" signals too? or set a minimum percentage of signal (lets say 50%) and less than that it forces 3G.

My wife and I recently got the DROID and so far really like the phone and all that it can do. My wife has been having some problems where she would hold the phone to her ear with her shoulder and she will accidentally mute her call, or some times put the call on speaker phone. Has anyone else experienced this issue? As hard as i have tried, i am unable to duplicate her issue with her phone or mine...

Ok, there is literally no way that I'm the only one who has asked this question but I can't find the answer by searching. Here's my problem, after I flash my rom and restart my phone the market begins auto-downloading all the apps I previously had installed. I do not want this bc I use titanium backup for all of that.
I know I can avoid it temporarily if I skip entering my email address, but there has to be a setting for me to un check that will make it not try to auto download anything once I do add my account.
I'm sure you guys have all run into this by now, so can someone please tell me what setting will resolve this issue?

Is there some way to tell the navigation app to keep the "Avoid Tolls" option? If I enable it and use a route, then the next time I pull it up the "Avoid Tolls" option is unselected. Bug?

I'm using the latest Wifi Fix and OverClock kernel for 2.2 Froyo, but I'm still having issues randomly disconnecting from the wireless network... The wifi signal shows 0/3 bars even when sitting right in front of the router.
Froyo Overclocked Kernels includes *wifi* fix is where I got my kernel. I've been overclocking to 1200 GHz.
This is where I got my ROM (it was updated today) Download: Newer Motorola Droid Froyo Leak FRF57 | Droid Life: A Motorola Droid Blog
Even under the wireless network now, it says "Disabled, secured with 802.1x EAP"

Is there a way to programmatically set a proxy server in my Android App?
I'm writing an Android App that uses some WebViews. Is there a way to set a proxy server for all network connections in my app, i.e. all content that is shown in the WebViews should be routed through the proxy?
All other Apps on the device should not be affected by this proxy settings.

159mb seems like no space at all. Seems like stuff should install on the SD card. I know you can if you root, but you shouldn't have to. I clear the cache on apps regularly. How else can we avoid filling up our internal memory?

Now that I sort of know my way around the SDK/API, I've switched from Eclipse back to my favorite text editor, which means I have to use ant to build my project, however:
It seems every other time I compile the project, a lot of drawables get corrupted, resources lose their ids (resulting in NPEs in the code), or classes throw "Verify Errors".
The only way to fix this is by removing the bin and gen folders, and recompiling, which is obviously annoying.
Is there any way to avoid this?
btw, I'm using ant 1.7.1, java version "1.6.0_20"

I am developing a camera application , where the frame rate is important. However, camera uses a preview callback function which allocates a byte[] array of 230400 bytes, which makes it necessary for the garbage collection to step in. Can someone suggest me a way to avoid garbage collection stepping in?

In my android app, I wanted to start an activity 'B' from initial activity 'A'. I have created classes for both of these. However when using following code to start B, I get runtime error as application has stopped unexpectedly, try again.
CODE:..........
When I added a new entry in AndroidManifest.xml/manifest/application/activity/intent-filers for activity B then the application worked.
I have two questions:
When there are multiple activities entries in AndroidManifest.xml, how does android know which activity to start first?
I could not understand intent-filters.
Here is my partial AndroidManifest.xml

I'm writing a client application for an Italian social network (Meemi) and I'd like to give the possibility to users to share their calendar events via my client. I noticed on my device (HTC Desire) that is possible to access to a "share chooser" from the Calendar event list: in fact I can share via email, sms, and bluetooth. I'd like to add my client to the this sharing list: but I'm not able to found the right intent filter to use.

I have search Android docs and for some insane reason I am not able to find the list of all available intent filters.
I am finding an intent filter, which would do something like , notifying me through Broadcast Receiver that a particular Activity (example browser, or email ) has been started or in foreground. Can anyone help me with that .

As the world cup is the main sport event and the Vuvuzelas are the most annoying sound in the world, I had an idea to remove them definitively by reading this new ( http://www.popsci.com/diy/article/2010-06/simple-software-can-filter-out-vuvuzela-whine) that told us that the sound has some frequencies at 233Hz + 466,932,1864Hz.
I have already made a lot of Android application by myself but never touching the signal analysis and filtering part, so here are a few questions, I do not ask for precise answer but maybe links and tutorial to find something to work on. I guess that a new Android phone has the CPU and power to make real-time filtering.
1) How can I intercept the sound coming from the Jack microphone - Line-IN plug- ( I plan to link my TV to my phone with Jack to Jack plug). My question is totally software and coding, I have all the wires and adapters to plug a jack into my android phone Line IN.
2) Are there some Fourier analysis librairies, may I have a look to Java libraries on the web and import them to my Android project?

I noticed a lot of the pics that get uploaded are images of webpages I looked at on my phone.I never long pressed and saved them. Some are of the whole webpage, and sometimes there might be a couple more of the same webpage but zoomed in closer and closer. It's so weird. When I look in my photo albums on the phone, it doesn't show these images. Every time I am finished uploading pics I have to go through and delete a ton of them cause they're random images. How do I stop my phone from saving images like this?
