I'm having some trouble with my Uni's WiFi in that it needs to use a manual proxy address to access properly. I've had a wee fiddle with many things and had a look on the marketplace but there doesn't seem to be anything that can help? (I'm still running 2.1 un-rooted btw)

I'm having trouble with Wifi connectivity on my Milestone. This has happened at several different open Wifi hotspots, so not just at home. The hotspots seem okay, because I can connect through my laptop. Just not through the phone.
When I connect to an AP, and I go to the Wifi settings, it shows me as Connected to that AP. However the phone does not get an IP address. I can tell because I go to the Wifi Settings and click on that AP and it shows me as connected along with the signal strength, but there is no IP address entry. I've tried :
- restarting the phone
- forgetting the AP and re-adding it
This problem started showing up in the last month or so. I'm thinking probably when I got the phone updated to that 2.1-update1 on my phone's network.
Any ideas on what is going on ? I have a Milestone running 2.1-update1 on the Rogers network.
Tried to dig deeper into where and when apps are accessing your data networks regardless of whether it was while you are on wifi or mobile networks. I'm rooted running 4.1.1 and I'm looking for an app that sort of works like a proxy except for my own phone and just my phone's data. The goal is to see which apps are accessing the internet and what websites they are accessing and how often, ect. Basically I'd like to eavesdrop on my own apps. Is that possible? How can I do this?

However, when I'm out using other WiFi (a coffee shop, or at school) I obviously need DHCP. How do I set manual IP settings on a per-wifi-hotspot basis?

I think this should be simple enough but I haven't found a solution. I would like to leave my WiFi radio on. This way, the phone will automatically connect to certain access points (that I have previously connected to). However, there are certain access points that I would only like the phone to connect to if I elect to manually connect to them. I can't seem to find this setting anywhere. The only two options I have on access points once connected is to Forget network and Change password. I want it to remember those but only connect when I manually tell it to.

1. Alarm issue, Motorola wants the user to be searching in the forums to find a solution to a core function? I got to work late by 1 hour the first time this occurred.
2. Yesterday suddenly when I unlocked my phone there was nothing on the home screens, and I have the stock home application. I was going right left, and nothing was there!
3. The music player suddenly starts playing. I was in a meeting and suddenly the music player starts playing! What should I say to the other people? There's a bug in my Milestone and Motorola is just too lame to fix it.
So my incredibly gay school blocks cell signal.. and has crazy web filters, blocking most youtube vids, facebook, twitter etc. Is there a way to set up a proxy to avoid those annoying filters?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI type a lot on my Milestone, and I'm really loving the keyboard. Though in Norwegian, we use "�" "�" and "�" a lot and typing in Norwegian isn't that great. Quite a few common words use those letters frequently, and having to longpress A or O and then tap the screen isn't really practical..
Does anyone know if it could be possible to make another solution? Either double tap (aaeeoo) or longpress brings the letters directly.
I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place (from what I can tell). Story as follows: Purchased a milestone from telus and unlocked in order to my current account. Previous SIM card was old and did not recognise Wifi, no data plan when phone first arrived therefore could not account sync with Google. New SIM card fixed wifi problem, data plan now on board. Still cannot sync accounts (can't establish reliable connection with server error message). Online research reco'd pulling out sim card/sd card which did not make a difference, and other minor setting variations all of which made no difference. Looks like a factory reset will resolve the issue but I would like to back up my SMS history as my understanding is that I will lose all SMS/MMS with the reset. (Other data is already backed up no problem). The dilemma is - apps to backup SMS history are available through android market. I cannot access android market as my phone will not account sync. Is there a way to dl an app online through my computer and then manually dump it to the phone? Is there a file where SMS are stored on the phone that will be recognized when the Milestone is connected to my computer? I feel like I'm going in circles(perhaps blindly) and would appreciate any geek-insight. I do not wish to root the phone as I do not have enough knowledge in this direction.

I rooted my milestone correctly. everything went smooth. but now when i connect through wife. it connects but m not able to access internet through it. i checked the wifi connection, it works fine with my laptop.

Any idea what is happening? I've tried countless times to forget the network and re-connect but still this doesn't work. My wife's on iPhone and hers connect seamlessly. Any idea what could be conflicting my connection? I am using WiFi widget by Robert Burger. It's a nice and simple widget and I don't think that is the problem. For connections, I have to disable the WiFi before I can get online.

This is my first data phone so I'm unsure of how it works completely. Also, if you are not within a local tower as I work offshore but we have wifi. USB Debugging is enabled on both phones. After changing the udev rules I did a "service udev reload" and
"adb kill-server" -> didn't help. I even tried to restart the whole machine. Without success.
If user behind proxy he can set proxy settings in android handset under 'access point option' is there a way i can read proxy settings from android handset?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Motorola Milestone on Telus with 2.1-update1.I'm using WPA at home and WPA2 Enterprise at work. Until recently, my WiFi was working perfectly. Then I noticed that I haven't connected to WiFi in some time so I tried and failed.Options > Scan doesn't do anything. It doesn't connect. It sits there doing nothing. And the WiFi networks don't have problems. I've tested them against an HTC Dream and a Magic. Both work fine. I tried the WiFi Manager app but it doesn't have any scan results. It just shows both - the work and home WiFis - in the list. Scanning doesn't change anything.I have restarted my phone multiple times with no results.I have rooted my phone using Easy Root hoping that would help. It didn't.Anyone experiencing similar problems? Any possible workarounds?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am struggling to connect to my home wifi network. I very occasionally can connect but there seems to be no obvious method to the madness just some black magic. Basically it sees my network it has remembered the key, the key is correct, and it says disconnected. I press connect and nothing happens at all but sometimes it will say "connecting..." then it will immediately say disconnected. I have a belkin router and my network is secured using WPA/WPA2 TKIP/AES encryption. I have tried using APNDroid to turn off my mobile internet before using wifi and that sometimes works but that seems to be more black magic than a solution.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI got myself a Samsung Galaxy S. And decided to sell my Milestone to a guy. So when he is testing out the phone the WiFi doesn't scan his office WiFi. It scan every WiFi around us except the office WiFi. I use my Milestone's WiFi all the time. And all the time it scan and detect all the WiFi. Infact 30 mins before the sale I was using the Milestone's WiFi at school to find a map to his place.
Weird thing is when I use my Galaxy S to scan WiFi, it scanned all the WiFi and his office's WiFi too. So does anyone know why my Milestone is able to scan everyone else WiFi except his office's WiFi? It couldn't be hidden because my Galaxy S was about to scan his WiFi. This is extremely bad luck, because I know my Milestone is in perfect working condition and now he would think I'm scamming him.
I noticed on my Motorola Milestone 2.1, that ADHOC networks doesn't appear on the regular wifi settings , I cannot connect to my laptop for internet sharing (notebook to phone) Anyone noticed this problem or is it me?
View 6 Replies View RelatedJust picked up an unlocked Milestone and I popped in my prepaid T-Mobile card and I have my home WiFi network bur for data on the go I need to use the 3G connection of my iPad via WiFi. Problem is that the WiFi network it creates is an AdHoc one and as I found Android can't connect to AdHoc networks by default. Standard on WinMp and iOS so what possessed them to do that?
After some digging around I found a guide to enable AdHoc on rooted Androphones How to connect an android phone to your ad-hoc wi-fi network | Wissam Idrissi so I spent a few hours rooting and installing the proper apps. No go though, my AdHoc network does appear in the list with MySSD : "Not in range, remembered" but it never connects. Has anyone managed to connect to an AdHoc network on a Milestone with 2.1?
I m running ICS 4.0.3 and I am having work wifi with proxy. I have also installed proxy droid and I am able to download apps and browse internet through my wifi. BUT THE PROBLEM is not all apps are having access to Wifi. i.e. Gtalk is not able to sign in while using internet from wifi.
