I can't use WiFi at work (a uni) as it needs a proxy address. Has anyone found an app to allow proxy settings input? It's a real bad failing for such a great device. I know Android 2.1 doesn't support as standard. Am gutted by their inability to work on this

BUT THE PROBLEM is not all apps are having access to Wifi. i.e. Gtalk is not able to sign in while using internet from wifi.

I know that android 2.2 also does not support proxy and its really a great problem for people like me who study in schools. I heard that there are custom roms that support proxies (cyanogen rom). There is no proper information on this. I just want to know how good it is for HTC desire.

I'll be returning the Virgin Desire and just received the o2 Desire today.
Setting it up went well, accounts added etc. but I'm having trouble with the WiFi - I can't disable it, every time I do it switches itself back on - I'm assuming that's something to do with the o2 firmware and it wouldn't be a big deal if the WiFi worked properly
I set it to install all my apps, but wouldn't over Wifi, only over 3G, I can't browse the internet or check for software updates in settings... I've got 2 email accounts set up - Gmail & Exchange (just as I did on the other handset), and it's just told me it can't sync to the Exchange server now though it seems to have been fine so far...
Yet I've just sent myself a test email over WiFi successfully - it appeared straight away in the webmail and then back on the handset, so some part of it's working...
I decided to try the WiFi hotspot available through 2.2. GREAT! Actually worked quite a bit better than I thought it would. Only trouble is, ... now I'm back at home, it fails to connect to the home network.
+ Restarting phone
+ Re-entering password
+ Forgetting network + refinding
WiFi sees the network, says "Connecting", comes up "Failed to connect", "Scanning" and loops on that sequence. I know the router's working because this laptop is using it right now
I'm not sure if it's just me experienced this wired situation. I got TP-Link 108M wireless router at home and all my 4 PCs and 1 wireless cam connected to the router with no issues for 1.5 years. But ever since I brought in my HTC-Desire last week, I experienced dropped connections almost everyday. If I switch the Desire off, then every thing gets to normal. Have you experienced same? Is this something I can overcome by set some settings?

As many of us know, android has no native support for proxies, unfortunately my school's network uses a proxy server to access the internet. I have a wireless router connected to the network so i can have wireless on my laptop and such. What I was wondering was, can I use the router to allow my android phone to access the internet as well? I reckon it's just a matter of forwarding the right ports to the phone but I'm not sure which ports are in use. I'm using a htc desire and a d-link dir-600 router.

I'm looking for a programmatic way to set-up http proxy settings for android handsets. I've tried using android.provider.Settings.System.putString() to set System.HTTP_PROXY, but my call fails (I'm using a 2.2 emulator image at the moment). My code looks like:

I'm familiar with this SO thread, but the technique there requires manual adb commands, which require the SDK tools and (possibly) a rooted phone. Is there a way to accomplish this? Ideally, I'd like away to set an http proxy that will be used for both data and WiFi connections.
I am developing applications for Android in a company where the Internet is accessable via a proxy server only. I found out that the emulator of the 1.5 R3 SDK works well with the option -http-proxy, but the emulator of the 1.6 R1 SDK does not. Is this a bug in the 1.6 R1 SDK? And if so, is there a chance this gets fixed in - let's say - 1.6 R2? Or am I just doing something wrong, though providing the same options for the 2 different emulator versions?

There is three solutions: - add values in system table - configure -http-proxy in eclipse run menu - configure APN on emulator to set the proxy. When I use Android browser, it's really slow but it's working. If I try to to a post from my application, I take an ANR and some minutes later a socket time out.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trying to connect to a network that uses proxy. I have entered the manual settings in the network and I am able to browse on the browser as well without any issues. However, no internet applications like playstore whatsapp or youtube works for me.
Any way I can assign proxy for all the applications on the phone.
My problem is that all my devices are on a wifi network that uses http/https/ftp/SOCKS proxy settings to connect to internet. All the devices connect to internet after I use proxy settings on them. But few applications such as skype do not connect to internet. They work fine when I connect to a wifi network that does not use any proxy settings (at home), but at work when I have to use proxy settings to access internet, the apps fail to connect. I have a couple of devices which are not rooted (Fujitsu Stylistic M532 tablet, Garmin-Asus A10 phone) and I am not sure if I can root them. I would really want to use all the apps.

I can successfully share my 3G over wifi but i wanna go a step further and install a proxy on my tablet (or something similar) so when someone accesses my tethering wifi connection gets redirected to a webpage of my choise before being able to access any other websites (just like most proxies work in Hotels/Airports etc but without the need of any password, maybe just pushing an "Accept" button after a few lines of info)

Reading the very good manuals of android, they tell me i should start android using the following command
emulator -avd myavd -http-proxy http://168.192.1.2:3300
But still am not able to use the emulator browser. am using the IPAddress for my proxy server.
