I was just wondering if I use the Facebook app on the Droid would it notify me on the phone when say someone comments on my wall on facebook? Thank I don't have a Droid yet so I'm just curious.

I've had my eris for awhile now, no problems thus far Today, 3 times now I've gotten a text (first using handcent, now chomp) and when I pull down to clear/read it in the notifcations tab, sometimes its disappeared and then when I go into the messaging app, its GONE! WTH? Is there a setting I messed with that is making it do this, or how do I fix it?
I've had to ask people to re-send their text message, that gets pretty old for both of us. I rebooted and have yet to see if that has done anything, I havent gotten a message since I did.
That's pretty much all I want to know. I have no constructive input (save for that the release of the SDK may herald a new era of notifications for facebook :P), but just wanted to complain. That is all.
View 18 Replies View RelatedFor awhile, my Facebook push notifications were working just fine until I had updated to Jelly Bean. I tried everything.. to clearing cache, data, uninstalling, and even the BlackBerry trick again (worked once before) and couldn't for the life of me figure out why they weren't working anymore. I thought maybe it was Facebook clashing with JB. I read everywhere and found out some people had no issues and some had some where every push notifications didn't work and some just Facebook.
Well I spend a day or so trying to figure it out and finally found a new, simple fix.
1) Open the Facebook app.
2) Tap on menu button on the top left
3) Account > Account Settings
4) Apps and Websites
5) Clear out Facebook related apps (Like Friendcaster or HTC Sense)
6) Clear data on the Facebook app and launch app
I noticed some off the apps in there have a push notification toggle button and I believe it was messing up the push notification system of there was to many to keep up with.
Once I spent 20 mins clearing those apps out, I cleared data and started the app notifications started working again. I didn't know it worked until someone wrote on my wall and I was shocked to see a notification!

I just got the Samsung Captivate 3 days ago and I love it. I have been doing research trying to figure out all the little ins and outs to this phone. There are a few things that im stop not 100% clear about and would like for you guys to shed some light on this situation for me.
1. What is Launcher Pro and how exactly is it used.
2. Is there anyway to get push notifications with emails and facebook. Im always having to check my email to see if I have any.
3. What happens when I fill up all 7 pages with apps? Will I not be able to download anymore?
Does the Push notification only work for Gmail and Facebook? Will it not work for the email app? Or is there a way to get it to work for all your apps?

I've set my settings to receive notifications, but so far I've set my notifications to come to my email. I've heard from someone that google and facebook are having some sort of differences. View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm sure this isn't news to any of you veterans, but this is my first android device so please bare with me. I'm using the facebook app and have noticed that neither the app itself or the widget show the actual facebook live feed or provide a way to access it....
Of course my next thought was "well what if I just use the facebook page in a browser window". Turns out that's not as simple as I thought! Apparently facebook not only has a mobile page, it also has a "touch" page that it likes to route you to. Neither the mobile or the touch facebook pages have a way to access the live feed either....
How do I set up e-mail push service for gmail to Dx? I have the account added and can manually go to the account and tell it to sync and it works. It never updates by itself. I went to settings> data manager> data delivery and "email and corporate sync is a darker color and I can not click it.

Is there ever a valid reason to configure polling on a push email account (ie. as a "backup" if the push fails for some reason)? In other words, if I'm currently receiving pushed email, is it completely useless and redundant to poll the folders as well? Or is it possible polling might work in the event push doesn't? I receive emergency alerts from my work so I'm just wondering if I should set up a 15-minute poll in case an alert doesn't get pushed to my phone. Or can I expect that whenever push fails, polling won't really do any good either?

It's especially odd because both Gmail and Gtalk are push.

View 2 Replies View RelatedUsing the stock Messenging app with the universal inbox. I have a couple of IMAP accounts setup and push turned on. Something odd happens to the Messenging app that prevents it from getting mail. It will hang quite often to the point where no mail is received at all until it gets unstuck (sometimes up to a half hour). If I go into the email account, it shows the spinning arrows as if it is trying to sync, but it just spins.
At first, I tried all the usual troubleshooting. I removed and re-added the e-mail accounts. I turned push off and on. I rebooted. I tried just about everything I could think of, but this has been going on since I got the Droid X. I made sure it was set to sync even when wifi is off. I'm not sure what is causing it to hang, but I removed and added each account and it's still happening. Eventually, I'll get the emails but sometimes it takes a half hour or more before it frees itself up. I can't even use a Task killer to kill the messenger app because when I open it back up, the arrows are still spinning.
I came from a Iphone 3G on AT&T and found the Push to be very unreliable on that phone. I would just rather set the phone to fetch every 15 minutes. Will the fetch use more battery than having the phone on push?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Droid X that is upgraded to 2.2 but I noticed this weekend that I didn't receive emails on Saturday until I pinged the server on Sunday night. When I was on 2.1 this wasn't an issue and I'm noticing now it is.
Settings right now are:
Data Delivery:
1. Background data is OFF
2. Email and Corp Sync: Data Push
Battery Manager:
1. Now in Performance mode, I turned off Custom this morning.
I might have solved my own problem by changing to "Performance Mode".
- Does the standard Gmail application that comes with the phone (not the email app) utilize polling on a set schedule, or is it set to automatically push messages to the phone as soon as they hit the Gmail server? I have noticed that what it does seems to correspond to my Google Account Settings (and what I have checked). Specifically, when I check off the "Sync Gmail" feature, I seem to get my Gmail emails on my phone in real time. Does this mean that checking this option allows Gmail to "push" emails to my phone, or is it simply polling at very frequent intervals?
- Which, in your experience, uses less battery: setting the phone to poll for e-mails every 30-60 minutes, or simply having the server "push" the e-mails straight to the phone? Also, does "pushing" e-mails work when Syncing is turned off (via the Power Control widget)

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have the push option on, and the fetch set to every 15 minutes, yet, the default email client on my DX will not fetch OR push email from my qwest.net account. I know the server and log in are correct because I can manually refresh it and it will get me my mail. Its a POP3 account. Can anyone offer me any ideas? I don't run very many apps and I don't have any kind of task killer going on.

My question is this. When you push the voice-to-text button does it pop up a window like earlier versions of Swype or does it do the really fast and slick thing that the multi touch keyboard does (just replace the keyboard with the audio waveform thing).

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I receive a new email, I get multiple notification icons (I believe one for the 'messages' folder and another for the 'email' folder, etc.) With my BB I got one notification for 'messages' and when the message was tagged as read in that overall folder, it was tagged read in the originating folder as well. I don't want to acknowledge the same message multiple times.love this phone and all it does. Leaps and bounds better than my BB in speed, style, and functionality.
