Motorola Droid :: Gmail Application Sucks - Long Emails Sections Truncated
Nov 20, 2009
you would think that google would have had an amazing gmail app on their android os. Gmail app isn't even as good as their web version! Long emails have sections truncated with... at the end and I can't see attachment pictures even after clicking show pictures

I am trying to get a JSON response from our server and the response string seems is always being truncated when the string length reaches to around 5525 characters.I also tried this by using HttpEntity and reading the response stream. But that also truncates the string at approximately that length. I tested the link in my browser and it does return the complete JSON. So I am sure the issue is with my code in android.

I finally bought the Motorola car dock and car charger for when I'm traveling this thanksgiving. The only problem is that the "Car Home" app sucks big time. I can't change the navigation app to Aura, I can't change the music player, I can't move or change the default apps on the home screen, and I can't even change the wallpaper. Sucks Big Time. Is there a better app for when the phone is docked in the car?? All I want to do is change the default GPS app, add and remove apps, move icons, and change the wallpaper....lol, is that to much to ask? I don't know if it matters but I'm running ApeX V1.0, NexTheme, and LaucherPro Plus. Please say there is a better alternative.

When I'm reading my Gmail with the HTC EVO and I go to "Change Labels. My label list only shows 15 or so characters. Since I have nested labels (Google IMAP enabled) that is not nearly enough and it is impossible to read the last part of my Label. Which makes it hard to assign labels. Is there any way while changing a label to see more of the label name?

I'm able to receive my Gmail with the built in Gmail client, but not able to send any. The email just sits in my Outbox in "Sending" status. I've tried waiting, but it never goes through. I eventually go and delete this "Sending" email from the Outbox. However, I'm able to send/receive with the regular Email client that's set up to my work's Exchange server.

I have had my droid X for about 3 weeks now. I want to learn though, and i figure this is a good place to do it. I love my phone. but it confuses me. And Ive had some issues that Ive seen a lot of other people have had since i updated to froyo. My biggest issues are my gmail dosen't seem to be getting new emails to my phone, the text messages being all goofy, and I don't really like the way the screen will rotate to view the other landscape way. I've seen people talk about doing a factory reset. What exactly does that do? And will i lose my contacts and such? Also, what does it mean to root a phone? I looked around but couldn't seem to find any answers.

Ever since i rooted my DX (rooted and deodexed with revolution), i've been having this weird email problem. When i go to delete emails in my gmail inbox on my phone they delete off the phone, but not in my actual gmail inbox online. Because when i delete the emails off my phone the inbox counter still reads all those emails that are still there. Well when i go online to delete them it goes back to normal. How can i fix this to where i dont have to keep goin online to delete emails?

Previously when I would receive emails (Gmail app) on my Eris and view/delete them they would still be there when I logged in on my PC to view and then finally delete them from the Gmail page. This morning I went through all the emails on my Eris and deleted them but when I logged in to my PC they were all in the trash.

Is there a way where you can create sections within a media app? I mean so that you can pick whether you want the song within a lets say workout songs section or travel songs section. I created folders within the SD Card but it shows all songs within the same section on the phone. I also downloaded tunewiki but same results.

On my Hero I have synchronised people's details to the 'People' application from my desktop Outlook using both the HTC sync and Companionlink. But either way, I just seem to get a truncated version of their physical addresses under the 'Find Home' field. When I hit that, I get a map I'm not looking for, and sometimes the full address, sometimes not. I can't see any other way of accessing the full address on the Hero - what am I missing?

I own an HTC hero. Yes it has great apps, is very functional, and has a wonderful feel in the hand but the most upsetting part about his phone and ALL android phones is how easy they can become bricks. The phone was working great no problems. Then someone compromised my gmail account. They changed my password and password reset programs. The phone became useless. I was locked out of my phone because the GMAIL system sucks.
I finally spoke to 2 people at google 650 253 0000 and 310 460 4000. No one was able to help me. They are not "authorized to transfer people to other departments or give out contact phone numbers". The google reset password program requires you to input the most email'd address into a form... not a good feature for a PHONE! NONE OF THE INFORMATION IS STORED ON THE MEM CARD. Android does not do that? So it's a great phone when it works. When someone hacks into your email account, your phone is worthless.

So this thing just started within the past week. My phone's stock gmail app will show new emails so I look at them and then they are all read, showing 0 new.But when I login to the web browser version, 5 minutes or even later(up to hours later), the web browser gmail is not updating to show that I already read the emails.I'm on JH2. So maybe it is a bug with the firmware?Or maybe a setting got changed but I'm not seeing how to handle the issue.

Is it the app itself or the DX? Also I have gone through the browser and clicked "full site" and still get the "touch site" which appears the same as the app version. It doesn't always update and/or my post's won't go through. Also it doesn't show birthdays, which is annoying. Can you get the full site or is there a better FB app out there?

So I wrote a thread earlier that flash 10.1 sucks with little to no internet sucks. Which is normal but with wifi turned on at home, I couldn't watch my anime on my phone. Which was really disappointing. Are you guys having problems with the flash player or is it just me? Video was choppy or took forever to load. Plays a few seconds then loads again. So I couldn't get halfway through the episode.

When I first turned it on, I was able to delete emails by checking a box to the left of them (like how it looks on my computer). This way I could delete several at a time. Now when I open my gmail, I need to open each email individually in order to delete it. Is there a way to change this?

I try to send numerous emails through the Gmail app and they won't send. They sit in my Outbox and never send. Is anyone else having this issue, or had this issue and care to help how to reslove it? I had the Smoked Glass Rom, but switched back to my old edited rooted nandroid backup, then even tried the OEM version I had backed up, but it still won't send.

So, I would like to assign separate ringtones for my gmail and sms alerts. Apparently, the Android system groups these together; I can assign a different tone for regular email, but not gmail, as the Android system groups them under "notifications." Is there an app out there for this?

I am using the standard gmail app that comes with the motorola droid. However password authentication is only required the first time the application is launched. This means anyone who picks up your phone can see your email with one touch. Is there a way to require password authentication each time the application is launched?

I have been reading up on the concept of push email, and how it's supposed to be a huge battery saver (since in theory, the phone would only receive a notification of an e-mail, and not the actual e-mail itself). I have also been reading up on how the "Gmail" app's version of Push email is not the same as other Push e-mail software, in that it requires the phone to "Sync" whenever an e-mail hits the Gmail server. As a result, whenever I would try to turn Auto Sync off (supposedly to save battery), I would no longer be able to get my e-mail notifications in real time.
With this in mind, I attempted to find another application that would enable me to use Push email for my Gmail account, without having to "Sync" with Gmail's server. After messing around for a bit, I found that I could manually input my Gmail account info (Incoming Server, Outgoing Server, Username, Pass, Etc.) into the stock "Email" app that comes with the X. Once this was done, I was able to enable "Data Push" in the "Email" app's Settings menu (as well turning off any Polling intervals). By doing this, I was able to receive new Gmail notifications through the "E-mail" app, even when Auto Sync had been turned off. As a bonus, I received them around 15 seconds faster than I did with the "Gmail" app's version of Push.....

Droid X - Configured with a Google Apps Premiere, working great. Attempting to add a personal GMail account. Go to the GMail app, select add account, fill in the metrics and then...... "Needs to communicate" message for ~ 3 minutes, then bombs out with - "Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server". 3G is fine, on a wifi connection that is fine, web browser works fine..... Google Apps account works fine.

Using ACTION_SEND it's possible to post messages to various sharing services such as gmail, facebook, twitter, etc. Most services have reasonably long message lengths, but twitter in particular is very short (140 characters).
Not knowing in advance which service a user is going to select once the Intent.createChooser() dialog appears, is there a way to construct an intent that will result in a short message for twitter but a longer message for other services?

This would happen from time to time on my Blackberry and the easy fix was to search only unread messages and it would return some random message that was marked as read in the inbox. Since there's no way to search unread messages how can I find the email that the phone thinks is unread since all the emails in my inbox are read?

Is there an "unread" emails option in gmail? If I save an email to read later its really annoying to have to scroll around to find an unread email.HTC email has this option (two envelopes on the bottom) but the gmail app gets my email faster.
