When i first got the droid in Nov , it was stunned that the dialer didn't dial by name.
I downloaded superdial, which has this capability, but it is running a bit slow.
Does anyone else have some comments on other dialers that can do this.
By this I mean that if I want to call DAD, I type in 323 and it brings up DAD in the address book. I have 700 contacts, and cant try scrolling to find names!

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to write a convenience app that needs to bring up the active dialer for a connected call, but I'm having issues after trying a couple of approaches.
ACTION_DIAL - I've tried starting a new dialing activity and while this brings up a new dialer, it's not connected to the existing call so pressing buttons on the new dialer produces no dial tones on the receiver's end.
ToneGenerator - Created my own little dialer activity and hooked up ToneGenerator calls in response to button clicks, but then found out that it only generates tones in the dialer's earpiece and not on the receiver's side.
So... Is there any way to programmatically send dial tones to an active call? Any way to bring up the dialer of the active call and not the dialer for a new call?
I first tested the alarm out and set it to go off in 2 minutes. it worked. so I set it for my morning alarm and to play an mp3. it said that it will go off in 6 hours. morning rolls by and it never goes off. i check it and its still set, but never went off. another problem that happened was my music player would not work after this incident. i would click load play list and it would take my to a blank screen. the previous song wouldn't play either. i had to reset my device to fix it.

View 8 Replies View RelatedOn the charger all night and this morning did not hear it at all, woke up 30mins after I set it to go off, does anyone have this issue or know why and how to get it working....it was on battery saver mode if that's the reason, I have it on the charger now and on smart mode to see if it will sound off.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI plan to go to verizon later today to see what they say, but i anticipate little to no help from them... so i decided to post this here. i tried the forced update to the stock 2.2 a couple weeks ago to no avail... kept getting this error every time i tried:

Installation Aborted, so i decided to wait for the OTA update... had it waiting for me when i got up this morning... pressed install and let it go to work... came back 20 minutes later and it was still on the triangle w/ exclamation logo... so i let it sit longer... came back yet another 10 minutes later it was on the Motorola logo and just stayed there for about 5+ minutes (i let it sit for awhile to make sure it was done) so i took out the battery and restarted... and no update still "2.1 Update 1" now what do i do?
I've had my DX for about a week now. At first the battery life was just terrible. Now it seems to be improving a little bit more every day. I didn't install a task killer or anything either.I saw some threads where some have experienced this with other phones but didn't see any with the DX. Anyone else have a similar experience with the DX? Sorry if this has already been discussed. I looked but didn't see it.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI installed the latest Facebook app on my Droid today and found that it synced most of my contact photos beautifully. (I chose the second option: only to sync photos with my current contacts) However, one minor issue and two less minor issues:
- For one of my contacts, the picture didn't sync. Dunno why but I guess I can just add the photo manually.
- Another thing is weird. After making a call I've noticed that in my dialer's "favorites" tab, there is a contact who I am friends with on Facebook but whom I do not have the number for, nor whom I have ever called at all! This person keeps reappearing (with FB profile pic and email address) in my dialer app, but the person is not in my actual Google / Android contacts.
Any ideas on how to fix that latter issue? Whenever I delete this person's listing from the Favorites tab, they keep reappearing after I make calls (to other people) O_o
Oh, and since we're talking about the Facebook app..
- Is there any way for Facebook to use the Android notification system to let me know about any new FB notifications? As it is, I'll be on the computer and see some new notifications, but on my Droid I have to manually refresh notifications in the app before it knows about them. Kinda weird.
First off, im running HC2.1,
1.Dont you have to root to be able to upgrade to a different software type? I rooted before in stalling greek35 2.1, then upgraded to HC2.1, do i have to reroot?
2. Rooting is just, using the update.zip file you download, then using droidroothelp.apk program, mount3, update those 3 things, flash 15.0, rename, reboot ect...so basically as long as you have SU app on your phone your rooted no?
Now boot animation question
I downloaded a boot animation, connected my phone with usb debugging, used the cd command and abd push bootanimation.zip /data/local, rebooted and the boot animation didnt change..after i used the push command, it said x.xkb transfered in 1.23seconds or whatever...any suggestions?
I have my Droid rooted and a 2.1 ROM installed. I needed to call 911 for something earlier. I dialed 911 and send, but it dialed my voicemail. I tried twice. Same thing...

View 34 Replies View RelatedI look forward to my Droid from Verizon.. unfortunately the Voice Dial appears disfunctional.If i go "Call Joe Blow".I get "Calll Joe Blow at home' Call Joe Blow on mobile choices on the screen. ok I could live with that as my Razr sometimes had difficulty, but I MUST PHYSICALLY SELECT THE CORRECT CHOICE.. so much for hands free.what is even worse is that if I say Dial 800-555-1212 it also prompts me for phsyical confirmation.For a phone in a hands free state this is worthless.Is this something that software will correct in the future??? Now for some reason when I do it it only gives me a google search option although I can still say "Navigate to 123 Whatever RD" and it will open up the navigator but why is my voice dial not working anymore.

I told her to make sure it is resting against her cheek so that her cheek isn't randomly hitting buttons on the dial pad but that still doesn't help.

Basically, there are few numbers I dial that use an automated system and I'm required to press certain numbers to continue and I grow tired of selecting the number pad myself.
It's not as important on incoming calls, but would be nice there as well I guess.

View 10 Replies View RelatedBeen running Rubix since 1.6 release. Recently updated to 1.8.9. Been running it for a day then decided to theme it. I put Buyers Beware on it and ran it for half a day. Ran great!! Saved a backup and then flashed back to my bare 1.8.9 backup and installed Sinful Blue theme. Ran this theme for a day. Last night I noticed that my Settings menu was missing. It wasn't there. Couldn't find it anywhere. Opened spare part to look at battery info and it forced closed. Then I noticed that everything in spare parts FC'ed. Fed up I flashed back my good Buyers Beware backup. Once rebooted there was no service. Funny, unlocked the phone and there is no dialer. It says that application isn't loaded on my phone. Also my contacts app is gone. Gettin' worried. Flashed back to my bare 1.8.9 backup and everything works great. For kicks and giggles I rebooted recovery and loaded the Buyers Beware theme again, the one that worked great when I first installed....NO DIALER AGAIN! Back to bare 1.8.9 I go.
