Motorola Droid X :: Stock Or Other GPS And Aura Application For Navigation

I have had quite a few problems with the stock gps. I am not sure if its the program or the gps in the phone. I downloaded the "aura" app for navigation and it worked just didn't like the OS of it. But with that app you have to download the maps so it basically only relies on the phone for the gps signal for location not for the maps. I was wondering if anyone has tried any other navigation apps and if they work better than the stock version?

Anyway to have the navigation application display speed? I have larger than factory tires/rims and my speedo is off by 6mph. I loved to see the speed on my storms garmin app.

Can anyone confirm if Google Navigation can be used to just show your progress/location on a road while driving, without having to have an actual destination input?I know this was shown on a few of Rob's videos as not being possible, but just wanted to confirm if anyone had any further info on it.

Does it make sense that my alarm doesn't ever go off? No matter what settings I try, it never goes off. It always says "you're alarm is set for 8 hours and 37 minutes from now", yet it never goes off at that time. Does anyone else have this problem? Should I download an alarm app from the marketplace and if so which one is good?

I started using MixZing lately and it bothers me that when I try to use the music controls on my bluetooth headphones the stock music app takes over. Is there a way I can disable the stock app (or if I remove it altogether will that cause other problems?)

I don't know for the life of me how to see all my accounts I have with the stock email app. I have two AOL accounts, but every time I open the app, only one account shows up. I try pressing "back" and it exits the program. I also tried seeing what I can do when I press the settings button (first left button).

Is there any way to change the color or get rid of the bubble look of the stock messaging app? don't want to use Handcent or Chomp, so what are my options? (If any). Also noticed on some but not all of the text messages I get, the CB# appears on each one. Now I saw the setting in messaging that you can disable that, but I think that is for my text messaging going out to the other person correct? Is there any way to stop this from appearing in each text I receive? The weird thing is, it does not happen for all users in my contact list, just a few.

I use and prefer the stock email app, but currently have a small issue. When looking at the folders, it says there is one unread email in the trash folder. However, when you open the trash folder, there is nothing there (I regularly delete my emails from it). Why this is happening and how to correct it?

Anyone know of any navigation apps besides the google ones and the stock carrier one?(i have sprint). I dont know maybe its just my phone but i made a simple drive earlier in clear coverage areas and Sprint Navigation just kept re-routing over and over again and when it wasnt it would jsut sit there and not do nothing until i tapped the screen then it would spring back to life with directions that were hit and miss. Is the GPS really that terrible on thsi phone? Sprint Navigation worked perfect on my blackberrys and even the Palm Pre.

I'm using the Note2 with the TW-based Digiblur rom and am having trouble when playing HTML5 player videos in the stock web browser. Any time a video plays, instead of timing out like they are supposed to, the navigation softkeys on the device stay lit while the video is playing. If I pause or stop the video, everything goes back to normal and the keys time out like they are supposed to. The problem is not present in any video player application, including the stock YouTube client.

For some reason, the navigation app will just start it self up. I thought maybe I was accidentally touching the shortcut on my home screen so I removed it, but it still happens. I "went along with it" as it asked me to show my gps settings since I have gps disabled. So I enabled it to see if it would bring me to a map, but it just brings me to the default navigation screen. Running 2.2, stock rom, but super user access.

I'm on Froyo FRF57. Every time I start Maps, I get the "What's new in maps" screen. When starting navigation, it doesn't remember my recent addresses. I have tried clearing the application data, and have also uninstalled and reinstalled maps, but the problem persists.

Does anyone know of a better VPN app than the stock app for the Moto Droid?
A couple key features that woud make this a great application:
1) Ability to store the password (though not visible)
2) Ability to automatically redial when disconnected.
I hate having to retype my password everytime the network (verizion not work) bumps me off and it is anoying to have the vpn disconnect and not realize it until I haven't gotten any new messages for a while.

When trying to use the Google Navigation app it just displays "searching for gps." at the bottom of the screen and never locks in on my location. In the location and security settings both "use wireless networks" and "use gps satellites" are checked.Am I doing something wrong or is there a problem with the phone?

Has anyone had problems with their Moto Droid overheating while navigating and charging. I noticed that it really was not charging so I went out to my battery app and it showed the temp being 135. I immediately unplugged the phone, shut it off and took the battery out to hold up to the AC vent. I cooled it to below 90 then plugged it back in and it started to charge to completion (100%) without navigation turned on. The problem is if it is not plugged in the screen blanks out without going into the settings to change it. So I removed SETCPU just in case that was the cause and I tried it on my way home from work(20min). When I got home it was at about 118 to 120. So my question is has anyone else experienced this navigating while charging heat thing? Should I be worried about that high of a temperature? Also would you happen to know at what temp your phone fails to charge anymore because of the heat?

I thought I read somewhere that one of the mapping programs has a speedometer, but I haven't been able to find it as on option in either Google Nav or Maps. Am I missing a setting somewhere, or was I just dreaming about the speedometer?

How do you create and save a map on Google My Maps and then get it into navigation on the droid? I have created and saved a map on My Maps (on-line.) I started Maps on the phone and successfully loaded the map from the web. The map shows up on the phone, but when I try and go to navigation I have to enter start and end points. Is there a way to get the My Maps map to transfer straight to Navigation?

Anybody else see that they have the speed in MPH at the top of your map. This is one feature I have been hoping they would add to Google maps for a long time. Is this a Droid X feature only?

Never had a problem using the navigation, until today. So what happens is I dock in my car, then after a few minutes of everything working fine (viewable directions on map, and voice of lady giving the turn by turns), all of a sudden the map will go off, and show the prior screen (the screen where it lists the directions). I then have to press the "navigate" button again to get it to view the map again..its frustrating. By the way, the whole time the "voice" of the lady giving the turn by turns stil works, just the map with the driving directions illutrated goes off.Any one else have a problem? Dont know if it is related, but I did a hard reset of phone yesterday because of some other issues that it didnt help..(my blockbuster app ever since the update stopped working) Anyone else have this issue too? I was on phone with both verizon help, and motorola techs, and none of them knew how to help, nor had either of them heard of the issue so they say. Anyhoe, they did say I prolly could go back to store (since within 30 days of purchase) and get a new phone..but i feel like thats a bit drastic.

I am trying to use the navigation function of the Droid X, but when I go to navigate to a location, it just sits at searching for GPS and never gets a signal. Now if I open Maps it shows my location almost instantly.

I just got done playing with the Droid X.Awesome phone but I'm stuck with the Droid until my contract is up anyways the really cool thing I liked about the Droid X was the car app screen it has with the huge buttons and music player and contact favorites all built in.Is there any possible way of getting it on the original Droid or an app like it?

I keep my GPS off usually to save the battery, but hate that I have to turn it on every time when I want to use the navigation.
Is there any way I can set it so that it turns on automatically when I am using navigation?
Also, can someone explain the 3 different location settings?
1. use wireless networks
2. Use GPS satellites
3. enable assisted GPS
what are the differences b/t the 3?

Are there any quick ways to navigate through web pages, or to call up the address bar at the middle or bottom of a page? I.thought I did something to bring up the address bar mid page by accident, but haven't been able to reproduce it. Yes, flick scrolling to the top is one answer, but am hoping there is another way without losing place on a page.

When using Car Home mode - whether in the dash mount cradle or not - all navigation directions are coming through the earpiece speaker (above the word "Motorola" on the front) instead of the louder speaker-phone speaker (on the back). Totally useless.
I have Bluetooth turned off, so that shouldn't be the problem. Turning up the volume only increases the earpiece volume, it doesn't activate the other speaker. Anyone know how to fix this?
