Motorola Droid X : Small Chip / Scratch In Screen
Oct 13, 2010
I just noticed this chip/scratch on my screen. It wasn't there yesterday. And nothing happened to my phone, so it's puzzling as to where it came from.
Especially since nothing "happened", I thought the screen was nearly impossible to scratch? Or in this case it's a bit chipped, so that may be the answer. Anyways, here's the picture.

How many are using a screen protector on your X? Is the screen scratch resistant? Personally I hate them and never had any issue to not having one, but this is a Droid.Oh if you have a screen protector what are you using?

Just wondering if the screen is scratch resistant like an iphone. I hate putting those screens on the phone. I have looked everywhere trying to find something about it but nothing yet.

is there a full body cover or clear material that doesn't cause bubbles on the camera lens or interfere with the touch ability? I havn't been able to find anything yet or maybe I am using the wrong screen protector.

All right guys I'm having all sorts of driver issues. At one time I've been able to take screen shots for my X, use adb, the works. Now for some reason I can't get any of it to work. I'm sure I have a driver conflict somewhere. What I want to do is wipe out all the drivers that are installed for my X and start from scratch like my X has never been plugged into my computer.

Well right now I have a rooted droid thanks to sholesmod and am running bugless beast 0.7.6 at 800. From what I Have read, it is supposed to be one of the fastest ROMs out there. Too be honest, I have almost noticed it to be slower then .7.5. So I have decided to completely erase everything and start completely from scratch. I was going to go back to stock 2.01 and then do a factory restore. Then I was going to reformat my sd card. Would that be the best route to go if I wanted to start from scratch?

I was reading about the scratch test (keys, screws, razor, etc.) and how they didn't scratch the screen, but how sand might. I am curious, is it sand specifically, or anything like it, such as dust or lint? Could things like that scratch glass? In other words, can the screen be scratched by slipping the phone into an otherwise empty, clean pants pocket?

I recently got an HTC Desire. I noticed a hairline scratch on the screen and I buffed it out with toothpaste and flannel. Something I've noticed is that fingerprints and oil get caught a lot easier in the area I buffed the scratch out in? Did I like wash some fingerprint coating or something? I washed the screen already but problem still persists.

Well it finally happened. I scratched the crap out of my screen. Have no idea how since I am very careful but oh well - nice 2 inch scratch right down the middle. I've been reading about various fixes. I'm intrigued by the idea of clear nail polish. This works well on glass, but I am afraid the nail polish remover used to wipe away any excess might melt this screen.

I haven't found a defining answer on this. I now expect most touch screen smart phones now being made to be made out of an almost unscratchable glass display. I keep hearing from some reviews that the screen scratches really easy. I haven't found a definitive answer on this anywhere and planned on purchasing this as my 1st ever smart phone tomorrow.

Has anyone performed one of these ala the nexus one and droid?
I want to know if its necessary to buy a screen protector for the long run Right now the screen is void of scratches and I've been sliding it in and out of my pocket for 4 days now and smudges come off very easily.
So anyone perform a test or have any scratching issues?

So I have had my evo for about maybe 3 months, anyways I had a screen protector on it but I took it off for one day since I had ordered new ones. And I dropped my Evo And got 2 little scratches on the screen. Not deep at all. But they're annoying. Is there any way to get rid of them without paying for a new replacement?

Is it possible to scratch the screen? I have this line in the middle of the screen. Looks like a scratch but kinda doesn't. When I swipe my finger across it doesn't feel like a scratch. I noticed it not too long after I received the phone. The line looks to uniform it kinda looks like a stain.

I was recently told by a Sprint phone "May I speak to a manager" guy that the EVO screen is Gorilla Glass, which he said, "Doesn't really scratch," even though I have a long crack on my EVO screen from just carrying it in my pocket with nothing else. (I've been so Honeymooning over it I haven't put it in my purse or backpack, or even in the same pocket as the headphones I use with it!)
My real question is:
Is there any way I can repair this? The touch screen works fine over the crack, and I can't feel it with the pad of my finger, but it is noticeable when I slight my nail over it. It runs from the start of the glass on the top to over a third of the way down the screen, and shows some pixel reflection, especially on white backgrounds. I'm willing to try at home methods, but do not wish to sand the glass down on the touch screen. If it can't be repaired, does anyone know of any screen protectors that minimize the visibility? I've seen some that bubble on the screen, and others that are so thick they make the scratch stand out.

Last night I dropped my phone while getting out of the car and it hit the pavement and skidded a couple feet. There is a hairline scratch across the screen now. It's not a deep gouge so I'm hoping it can be buffed out somehow. Any advice? I'm really bummed about messing up my new Incredible

The iPhone uses some type of hardened glass that is very resistant to scratching. Other people (not me) have tried to scratch it with keys and it just won't do it.
Meanwhile I have an HTC G1 with glass that easily scratches and easily breaks. Its hard to break the glass on the iPhone.
What does HTC use for these Nexus One like phones? (Nexus One, Desire, Incredible, etc). Are they likewise using hardened glass?
If they use hardened glass, chances are you won't have any use for a screen protector.

I've been lurking while waiting for my Incredible to come in the mail- it's finally here,
I went to my local Verizon store in CT today to get a case for my phone. The sales assistant tried to push me into getting a screen protector too, but I'd rather buy them online so I declined. She kind of snootily replied that if I end up scratching the screen because I don't have a protector, it's considered physical damage and that voids the warranty on the phone. Does this make any sense to you guys?

Especially when looking at full page views, the text is just too small to read. Solution?
1. Press Menu in browser.
2. Press More.
3. Press Settings.
From there, you'll see Text size as your first option and then simply switch it from "Normal" to Large or Huge. I choose "Large" because "Huge" sometimes makes the text a bit weird because it resizes all of the text and any text in a very small box tends to just stick out. "Large" works just fine. Now the text, even in full page views, is readable.

I don't know how the hell this happened. There was absolutely no chance that this could have happened, but it did. The scratch is on the screen towards the bottom left and is deep enough that if you scratch your nail over it, you hear the concavity.
I don't believe this. I'm not able to call customer service at the moment, but I think I can get them to replace the phone. Honestly, I was so careful with it! I don't know what happened! I needed to vent. Scratches can still happen everyone.

So 31 days into using my HTC Evo (1 day past when I could actually do something about it), I now notice a scratch on the front display dead center. No idea how it got there, though I did let someone use it for the first time while I wasnt monitoring their every move with it, lol. To make the matter worse I ordered a screen protector 2 days before this happened (waiting on mail).
Just wanted to let people know it will scratch when you least expect it, so buy a screen protector.
My question is, considering I have never had a scratch on my cellphones before. Will a screen protector (ie: Boxwave ClearTouch Anti-Glare) make the scratch look less noticeable?
The 7$/m insurance (if you choose to get it) only means you pay 100$ to replace it compared to full retail. Toothpaste trick Ive read in random places online did nothing (bad or good). Not willing to risk making the issue any worse trying other methods, unless someone here has a good one.

I was wondering whether the galaxy needs a scratch guard? I haven't yet taken off the samsung screen film yet (lol). I have an ipod touch and I didnt find the need for a scratch guard or screen protective film. I also read that capacitive touch screens are made so as to have easy moving of the finger on the screen. So would a scratch guard reduce its performance? also If i didnt use one, would the screen get any scratches?

Just got the DROID X from Verizon and have the small 150Mb plan. I am looking to stop all unnecessary data usage unless I specifically want to use it. I have removed the news and weather widgets from my home screen and turned off "data enabled" and "background data" in settings/data delivery. I am around wifi all day so I can enable that if I want to download an app.Is there anything else anyone can recommend or will that stop the majority of back and forth data transfer from the phone?
