HTC Incredible :: Any Way To Fill In Scratch On Screen?
May 6, 2010I have a very small scratch on my screen after having this phone for 2days and I was wondering if there was a product to fill it in.

View 8 RepliesI haven't found a defining answer on this. I now expect most touch screen smart phones now being made to be made out of an almost unscratchable glass display. I keep hearing from some reviews that the screen scratches really easy. I haven't found a definitive answer on this anywhere and planned on purchasing this as my 1st ever smart phone tomorrow.

I want to know if its necessary to buy a screen protector for the long run Right now the screen is void of scratches and I've been sliding it in and out of my pocket for 4 days now and smudges come off very easily.
So anyone perform a test or have any scratching issues?
Is it possible to scratch the screen? I have this line in the middle of the screen. Looks like a scratch but kinda doesn't. When I swipe my finger across it doesn't feel like a scratch. I noticed it not too long after I received the phone. The line looks to uniform it kinda looks like a stain.

It's not a deep gouge so I'm hoping it can be buffed out somehow. Any advice? I'm really bummed about messing up my new Incredible
View 20 Replies View RelatedThe iPhone uses some type of hardened glass that is very resistant to scratching. Other people (not me) have tried to scratch it with keys and it just won't do it.
Meanwhile I have an HTC G1 with glass that easily scratches and easily breaks. Its hard to break the glass on the iPhone.
What does HTC use for these Nexus One like phones? (Nexus One, Desire, Incredible, etc). Are they likewise using hardened glass?
If they use hardened glass, chances are you won't have any use for a screen protector.
I've been lurking while waiting for my Incredible to come in the mail- it's finally here,
I went to my local Verizon store in CT today to get a case for my phone. The sales assistant tried to push me into getting a screen protector too, but I'd rather buy them online so I declined. She kind of snootily replied that if I end up scratching the screen because I don't have a protector, it's considered physical damage and that voids the warranty on the phone. Does this make any sense to you guys?
I don't know how the hell this happened. There was absolutely no chance that this could have happened, but it did. The scratch is on the screen towards the bottom left and is deep enough that if you scratch your nail over it, you hear the concavity.
I don't believe this. I'm not able to call customer service at the moment, but I think I can get them to replace the phone. Honestly, I was so careful with it! I don't know what happened! I needed to vent. Scratches can still happen everyone.
So I have no clue how I got the scratch, but I have about a half inch scratch on my phone. It's very light and usually covered by a finger print. I am going back to screen protectors but I would say for a first scratch not a bad run. I have kept it naked since I bought it and have had kept in my keys with pockets. Honestly I wouldn't doubt thats how it happened !
View 24 Replies View RelatedI was reading about the scratch test (keys, screws, razor, etc.) and how they didn't scratch the screen, but how sand might. I am curious, is it sand specifically, or anything like it, such as dust or lint? Could things like that scratch glass? In other words, can the screen be scratched by slipping the phone into an otherwise empty, clean pants pocket?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently got an HTC Desire. I noticed a hairline scratch on the screen and I buffed it out with toothpaste and flannel. Something I've noticed is that fingerprints and oil get caught a lot easier in the area I buffed the scratch out in? Did I like wash some fingerprint coating or something? I washed the screen already but problem still persists.
View 11 Replies View RelatedWell it finally happened. I scratched the crap out of my screen. Have no idea how since I am very careful but oh well - nice 2 inch scratch right down the middle. I've been reading about various fixes. I'm intrigued by the idea of clear nail polish. This works well on glass, but I am afraid the nail polish remover used to wipe away any excess might melt this screen.
View 13 Replies View RelatedSo I have had my evo for about maybe 3 months, anyways I had a screen protector on it but I took it off for one day since I had ordered new ones. And I dropped my Evo And got 2 little scratches on the screen. Not deep at all. But they're annoying. Is there any way to get rid of them without paying for a new replacement?
View 6 Replies View RelatedHow many are using a screen protector on your X? Is the screen scratch resistant? Personally I hate them and never had any issue to not having one, but this is a Droid.Oh if you have a screen protector what are you using?
View 1 Replies View RelatedFound some interesting scratch tests for the desire on you tube, I'm tempted to rip my screen protector off!

I was recently told by a Sprint phone "May I speak to a manager" guy that the EVO screen is Gorilla Glass, which he said, "Doesn't really scratch," even though I have a long crack on my EVO screen from just carrying it in my pocket with nothing else. (I've been so Honeymooning over it I haven't put it in my purse or backpack, or even in the same pocket as the headphones I use with it!)
My real question is:
Is there any way I can repair this? The touch screen works fine over the crack, and I can't feel it with the pad of my finger, but it is noticeable when I slight my nail over it. It runs from the start of the glass on the top to over a third of the way down the screen, and shows some pixel reflection, especially on white backgrounds. I'm willing to try at home methods, but do not wish to sand the glass down on the touch screen. If it can't be repaired, does anyone know of any screen protectors that minimize the visibility? I've seen some that bubble on the screen, and others that are so thick they make the scratch stand out.
Ive been raking my brains trying to figure out how to play 720p movies on my HDTV in 16:9 aspect ratio (or 1.78), whereas it would fill the screen of the HDTV nicely just like Niko does it in this thread Video Demo: HTC Evo playback of HD/720p movies over HDMI out. I have a couple of 720p bluray movie files on my PC that i want to encode but now im not even really sure if they are really 720p. When i upload them into handbrake, it says that the source resolution is 1280x544 and the other one 1280x528 with a 2.35 aspect ratio. Doesnt the second number have to be 720 in order to be considered true 720p HD resolution? Everytime i try and change the 528 to 720 on hanbrake, it doesnt let me. And also handbrake doesnt havent an option where you can change the aspect ratio. When i finish encoding, i get the stupid black bars. i realize the video file might have been shot in a 2.35 aspect ratio or whatever but when i play it in VLC it allows me to change it to 16:9. Basically, I want the video to come out in 1280x720, 16:9, 1.78 resolution and aspect ratio as its default settings. This would be much easier if VLC was playable on Android. At the end of the day, im just trying to find out how to watch 720p video on the HDTV in fullscreen or almost fullscreen (i know theres a couple of inches of black bars in 16:9) just like the guy in the thread above.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI just picked up a epic and my wife got the evo I am still undecided on which one I want but am loving the epic so far it just seems to have a cleaner os and I love swype. My real question is how is the durability of the device like scratch resistance of screen and does the slider hold up well those are the things I am worried about.
View 36 Replies View RelatedSo 31 days into using my HTC Evo (1 day past when I could actually do something about it), I now notice a scratch on the front display dead center. No idea how it got there, though I did let someone use it for the first time while I wasnt monitoring their every move with it, lol. To make the matter worse I ordered a screen protector 2 days before this happened (waiting on mail).
Just wanted to let people know it will scratch when you least expect it, so buy a screen protector.
My question is, considering I have never had a scratch on my cellphones before. Will a screen protector (ie: Boxwave ClearTouch Anti-Glare) make the scratch look less noticeable?
The 7$/m insurance (if you choose to get it) only means you pay 100$ to replace it compared to full retail. Toothpaste trick Ive read in random places online did nothing (bad or good). Not willing to risk making the issue any worse trying other methods, unless someone here has a good one.
I just noticed this chip/scratch on my screen. It wasn't there yesterday. And nothing happened to my phone, so it's puzzling as to where it came from.
Especially since nothing "happened", I thought the screen was nearly impossible to scratch? Or in this case it's a bit chipped, so that may be the answer. Anyways, here's the picture.

I was wondering whether the galaxy needs a scratch guard? I haven't yet taken off the samsung screen film yet (lol). I have an ipod touch and I didnt find the need for a scratch guard or screen protective film. I also read that capacitive touch screens are made so as to have easy moving of the finger on the screen. So would a scratch guard reduce its performance? also If i didnt use one, would the screen get any scratches?
View 17 Replies View Relatedis there a full body cover or clear material that doesn't cause bubbles on the camera lens or interfere with the touch ability? I havn't been able to find anything yet or maybe I am using the wrong screen protector.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm developing an Activity with a simple LinearLayout with a button. When I try the activity on my hardware (WVGA 480x800 screen) the activity only fills the standard size (480x320) while the OS itself fills the whole screen.
What could be the issue.
CODE:..................
Any idea why this doesn't create an activity that looks like a popup instead of an activity that completely fills the screen?
CODE:.............
I assumed that I only needed to set the layout height and layout width to something other than "fill_parent", but it still shows up as a black screen that completely fills the screen.
Ultimately, I simply want to create a popup, but I do not want to use an AlertDialog. Is this possible?
I'm battling with Android's retarded layout system. I'm trying to get a table to fill the screen (simple right?) but it's ridiculously hard.
I got it to work somehow in XML like this:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<TableLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_width="fill_parent">
<TableRow android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_weight="1">
<Button android:text="A" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_weight="1"/>
<Button android:text="B" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_weight="1"/>
</TableRow>
<TableRow android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_weight="1">
<Button android:text="C" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_weight="1"/>
<Button android:text="D" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_weight="1"/>
</TableRow>
However I can not get it to work in Java. I've tried a million combinations of the LayoutParams, but nothing ever works. This is the best result I have which only fills the width of the screen, not the height:
table = new TableLayout(this);
// Java. You suck.
TableLayout.LayoutParams lp = new TableLayout.LayoutParams(
ViewGroup.LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT,
ViewGroup.LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT);
table.setLayoutParams(lp); // This line has no effect! WHYYYY?!
table.setStretchAllColumns(true);
for (int r = 0; r < 2; ++r)
{
TableRow row = new TableRow(this);
for (int c = 0; c < 2; ++c)
{
Button btn = new Button(this);
btn.setText("A");
row.addView(btn);
}
table.addView(row);}
I've started learning about drawing things to the screen with Surface view and canvases, but I've run into a problem. At the moment, all I want to do is draw a background image to the screen, and have it fit the screen, regardless of size or resolution. I've figured out how to draw the image just fine, but it doesn't fit the screen at all.
Here is my situation: I'm developing on an Archos 5 internet tablet. It has a 4.8 inch screen and a resolution of 800x480 - putting it in the "Large" class of screens and "Medium" class of pixel density for Android. My background image is 800x480 - my thinking was that it would be displayed perfectly on my device, and scaled down on smaller screens.
But this isn't happening. When I place my image in the "medium" density drawables folder, the image seems "zoomed in" and I can't see it all on my device. And when I emulate the app with different screen sizes, it's all over the place.
I'm drawing my image in a Panel which extends Surface View. Here is the code:
Code:
package com.plant.drawing;
import android.graphics.BitmapFactory;
import android.graphics.Canvas;
import android.view.SurfaceView;
import android.view.SurfaceHolder;
import android.content.Context;
[Code] ....
In my layout, I set this panel's properties of layout height and width to "wrap content." I'm really new to Surface views and the like, so I'm sure I'm simply not doing something - but what can I do to make this image fill the background of any size screen? The image is a .png, by the way.
My Incredible took its first fall yesterday. Considering I have nothing but a screen protector on the phone, I'd say it came out just fine. That said, there are a few rough feeling scratches on the body right above the screen near the power button (on the glossy black part facing the front). I was wondering if anyone has tried smoothing out some scratches successfully? Can't really see it, but I feel it every time I push the Power button or hold the phone in a certain way, and well, while I'll get over it, for now it annoys me.
