Motorola Droid X : Need A Gallery App For Shady Types?

Sep 23, 2010

The stock gallery app sucks. Is there an app out there that let's me organize pics in different folders, and ideally allows me to encrypt or lock certain gallerys? I definitely do not like the way each gallery displays a preview picture on its cover.

Motorola Droid :: Types Of Phone Accessories?

Dec 21, 2009

I'm just wondering what types of accessories Droid users have bought. I have the Multimedia docking and the car dock both from Motorola. I bought them on the VZW website and got both for around $22 bucks each. I've been happy with both even though I haven't been driving much. Has anyone seen a car dock that doesn't block the camera? Mine does. I wanted to launch Qik or Ustream Broadcaster while I drive around. Just thought it would make for some cool video.

Motorola Droid :: Adding Contact Types Or Groups On Phone

Jun 11, 2010

I have an issue with using contacts on my droid. From within 'contacts' i hit the 'display options' then selecting the email account I see the drop down for system contact groups-friends, family, coworkers. I am wondering if there is any way to create additional contact types or groups? As in I have a specific group of contacts from one website I want to add to a group--can you create a contact type or contact group?? I can't find the option when adding a new contact or when within the display options as mentioned before.

Android : Use Each Of Droid's Different Messaging Types?

May 28, 2009

I've been working with Android for well over a year now, but I still have trouble determining when different types of messaging/communication between processes/threads should be used. I'm mainly talking about broadcasting Intents, using AIDL for services, using Handlers to send messages and socket communication.

Many of these tools can be used to accomplish similar tasks, but which is better suited to particular situations?

Motorola Droid :: We Really Need A New Gallery?

Jun 10, 2010

Well the issues with the stock launcher have been fixed from the early days of 2.0.1 and everyone can have up to 7 screens without root. Now that 2.2 is out and the launchers work fantastic on it, i think app developers should start working on a new Gallery for the droid.. I cant stand the stock gallery, its glitchy, laggy, messes up all the time and doesnt show all my photos. Its a worthless piece of trash IMO. I cant even show friends my photos i took on my DSLR on the phone because it will never load them.

Motorola Droid :: Gallery Not Working

Dec 7, 2009

How Gallery works? I have on my card a folder that I created Pictures.

Within that folder I have created sub folders:
Family
Friends
Picture ID
Wallpaper... with a total 115 pictures

Well I noticed that in a folder called DCIM, there is a folder called .thumbnails, which seems to be copying the pictures(some 42 pics) from the Picture folder.

My main issue is that when I tap on Gallery it opens a black screen with folders that remain blank and nothing...

I am forced to power down because after 5 minutes the Droid is so sluggish its not usable.

Should I be deleting the folders that I created? If so where do I put my pictures?

Android : Are Primitive Types Garbage Collected In Droid?

Mar 18, 2010

I know this may be a dumb question, but my background is more in c++ and managing my own memory.

I am currently cutting down every single allocation that I can from one of my games to try and reduce the frequency of garbage collection and perceived "lag", so for every variable that I create that is an Object (String for example) I am making sure that I create it before hand in my constructor and not create temporary variables in simple 10 line functions... (I hope that makes sense)

Anyways I was working though it some more tonight and I realized that I a may be completely wrong about my assumption on garbage collection and primitive types (int, boolean, float) are these primitive type variables that I create in a 10 line function that gets called 20 times a second adding to my problem of garbage collection?

General :: Droid X Won't Connect To Any WEP WiFi - Works On Other Types

Dec 14, 2011

I have a droid X and love it. It's been great and I'm a huge android fan. That being said, after the update from Android 2.2 to 2.3 (gingerbread), I lost the ability to connect to WEP-secured wifi signals. I know it's not just my wifi at home, but ANY WEP wifi... I've been to Starbucks, other people's houses, etc, and had the same issue. Other types of security work just fine, but it essentially means that 50% of the time I can't connect to wifi.

What specifically happens is the phone identifies the signal and asks if I'd like to log in. I type in the password, but the "connect" button is NEVER responsive... it has been greyed out so that I can only press cancel.

In general, I've had spotty connection with other wifi as well (It will work for a few minutes, lose the signal, find it again, work, rinse-and-repeat).

I've googled solutions. Most of the answers ask me to change the actual router settings. I CANNOT DO THIS as I am living in a shared apartment. It is not my router. Moreover, I know that it's not a router problem as I have encountered NUMEROUS routers (including my routers at home that I used all the time before the 2.3 update) that this happens with.

Motorola Droid :: Gallery Not Showing Images?

Sep 18, 2010

I have never had any gallery problems that i can remember, but all of a sudden my images/folders arent showing in the gallery. I use a file explorer, and it shows that all my files are there, but for some reason nothing will show in the gallery. sometimes i can gt it to show a "camera" folder and like 3 "download" folders, and some weird folders with numbers and stuff, but they never show thumbnails and wont let you click them.

Gone are my picture folders, and also the galleries from picasa web. I have the droid, with the latest updates and everything. Never had this problem before. Was working the other day. Today i was tryin to send someone a picture, and noticed this.

I've also downloaded the application "File Cover" [but we'll get back to that later] So the "Vacation" folder has individual sub folders: NY, Miami, Beijing, Canada...etc. When I pull them up in gallery, all the photos show up together. I dont, however want my Beijing folder to show up because it has photos from inportant artifacts and whatnot I dont want everyone to see. I downloaded "File Cover" to hide and password protect them. But they still show up in the gallery in small thumbnails, even though they are locked.

Motorola Droid X :: 2.2 Gallery Broken - How To Repair It

Oct 5, 2010

SYMPTOM:
When I open Gallery, it immediately closes (it never displays any photos or thumbnails).

CAUSE:
I added some .nomedia files to my SD card (to hide album art from showing up in Gallery), and that's when Gallery refused to open. It just immediately closes/disappears anytime I try and open Gallery.

SOLUTIONS ATTEMPTED:
I'm trying to avoid a factory reset if possible. Here's what I have tried so far:

Cleared data/cache for Gallery app (at Settings>applications>manage applications>menu button>filter>all>gallery>clear data and clear cache). Problem still persists. I tried to repeat this, and now the Clear Data and Clear Cache buttons are both grayed out even after I force close Gallery.

Removed the files under: SD CardAndroiddatacom.android.providers.mediaalbu mthumbs

Removed SD CardDCIM.thumbnails directory

Removed all photos from the gallery and see if it still crashes. I manually deleted the DCIM folder, and snapped a couple test photos to force the recreation of the DCIM folder. I can view Camera Roll from the camera app, but Gallery still refuses to open.

I have also booted to recovery mode and noticed the following error: "E: Can't open /cache/recovery/command" From recovery, I used the "Wipe cache partition" utility, rebooted, and Gallery still won't open.

What else can I try? I'm at a loss here. I see a file called "thumbnailScale.trace" but am afraid to delete that.
