Motorola Droid X :: Countdown Timer Alarm Volume Low / Is This Normal?

Jul 30, 2010

Is the alarm on the installed countdown timer really really low on everyone else's phone? I use the same style ringer for my alarm clock and timer. The clock is fine, but the timer alarm is so low it can barely be heard at the highest setting, 7. Is this normal?

Motorola Droid :: Best Countdown Timer? (Cooking And Poker Games)

Jan 6, 2010

Anyone have experience with a good countdown timer that works well with Droid? I think I downloaded the "Ultimate Stopwatch" once and it didn't work well (The alarm sound was way too soft). There are dozens of timer apps, and it seems people have various problems with all of them, aside from maybe a few pay ones. But I just want something really simple. Just for timing things like cooking stuff in the oven and poker games. Any suggestions?

Motorola Droid X :: Alarm And Timer App

Jul 23, 2010

I know that a lot of you have been having issues with this app. I thought that I'd try to make some suggestions that could or could not solve things.

- Make sure that you press the "Turn on alarm" check box at the very top of an alarm. I've missed it once before (my first time) and thought it was on because I pressed "Done" and even though it said that it was set for "6 hours and 53 minutes from now", it wasn't activated.

- Turn on "Vibrate" and have it rest on a wooden surface, like a night stand for example.

- Have "Repeat" set to the day that you want it on, even if its just for that day. This has helped some people.

- Have the "Backup alarm" on just in case.

- Have the volume turned all the way up. This definitely wakes me up every time because it can get really loud, especially when you're sleepy.

- Instead of playing one of the stock alarm ringtones, play an MP3 file. Play a song that can get loud, but I recommend to turn on "Volume" (which increases the volume gradually) so it doesn't startle you.

- Make sure that the speaker on the back isn't at risk of any muffling by fabric.

- Turn your phone over on its front to completely expose the speaker.

Go ahead and try a test alarm with all of these in mind (like set it to go off in 2 minutes) and see how it works out. I've made my mistakes by accidentally leaving it on a T-shirt (which definitely muffled the sound), forgetting to turn up the volume loud enough, and by forgetting to actually press "Turn on alarm" (as previously stated). If any of those suggestions do not work out for you, then you're on your own with a 3rd party app.

How To Make Countdown Timer

Feb 27, 2012

As a part of my app I would like to include a countdown timer.

I would much rather have the timer count in minutes and seconds, so any good tutorial to set such a timer up I would rather they point me in that direction first (I have looked)

My problem is that I'm getting this error when I press the button to open the activity

02-27 21:07:47.776: E/AndroidRuntime(711): Uncaught handler: thread main exiting due to uncaught exception
02-27 21:07:47.786: E/AndroidRuntime(711): java.lang.RuntimeException: Unable to start activity ComponentInfo{converter.units.kitchen/converter.units.kitchen.Timer}: java.lang.NullPointerException

I currently have the following java activity

import
android.app.Activity;
import
android.os.Bundle;
import
android.os.CountDownTimer;
import

[code]....

It was working fine when I had a fixed number as the starting value, although since reverting to a fixed number it still does not work.

Android :: Countdown Timer Via Thread?

Jan 23, 2009

I've created an app that functions as a countdown timer via a thread, a wakelock, and a handler back to my activity. My question is, what will cause my thread to die, or app to not be running in memory anymore? I've had this happen once, and can't seem to recreate it again.

Android : Countdown Timer App That Actually Works?

Oct 1, 2009

I was rather surprised to find a couple of features missing from android, having just moved from a sony-ericsson w200i (a phone which i bought for a fifth of the price of my new galaxy), in which these features seemed obvious

i did get tone picker to sort out the lacking ringtone settings etc. but when i tried to find a simple countdown app i hit a bit of a wall
from the ones i tested out, "oi countdown" and "countdown alarm" seemed to work ok up until the point the alarm rang and i couldn't shut the thing up in any other way than booting the whole phone
"snappy countdown timer" is the closest i've found for a simple app to remind you when your pizza is done, but that has the annoying issue of the ui being way too sensitive to pick a specific time (on minute-scale)

so is there a simple app to do the job of an egg timer that actually works?

KitKat 4.4 :: Countdown Timer For Google Now?

Nov 8, 2013

One thing that really bothers me about Google Now on a mobile device is that if you say "Set a timer for 'x' minutes" it will set an alarm (vs a countdown timer) for 'x' minutes into the future. If you say the same command to Google Search on Chrome on a PC it will set a countdown timer. I would really like it if I could just say "Okay Google (Now)... Set a timer for 10 minutes" and then have it start counting down.

Does KK updates Google Now to the ability to set a timer?

Everything is running fine on my phone so far but with the exception of my clock's alarm volume.

For example:I set the alarm volume to max, I go and set my clock alarm to ring and when the alarm rings the volume is set to very low. When I check back to verify the volume, the volume is set to very low. I am very sure that I have set it to max though.

I have tried to reset my phone to factory settings, it didn't work..

General :: How To Set Android Timer To Vibrate Or Alarm Through Headphones

Nov 5, 2013

I'm using the timer in a quiet environment and I would either like to have one of the following

The timer to vibrate when the alarm sound is completely silent. I set the timer and turn off the screen but theres no vibration AND no sound so I don't know when the time is up.
OR
The timer to play the alarm through the headphones. No matter what, all the alarms play through the speaker.

Is there a timer app or alarm app can do these? I'm using cm 10.2 on an AT&T Galaxy S3.

HTC Droid Eris :: Alarm Clock Volume - Randomly Resetting?

Jan 6, 2010

this is getting very irritating... I have 3 alarm times set on my phone (stock clock), and the volume keeps resetting to whatever must be the default I guess. Here's what happens: I set the alarms as "on" (check box), then open the time itself, set the ringtone, and adjust the volume while doing so (I set it to max to make sure it wakes me up). The alarm clock goes off in the morning, very loudly, and wakes me up. I snooze, maybe a couple times or so (come on, it's the most comfortable time in the morning! haha). Eventually I dismiss it and get out of bed.

Next night, I check the alarm clock set to on, go to sleep. Alarm goes off in the morning, but it is very quiet. Just barely wakes me up, and not instantly. I check the alarm clock volume afterward, and it is only halfway up! This keeps happening, and I can't pinpoint why Of course, I can turn it up again, but it is very annoying to have to do this every single time I want to set my alarm. Just clicking one single checkbox to turn my alarm on is much easier than turning it on, opening it, opening the ringer chooser, adjusting the volume, and backing out of everything. My ringer volume stays where I put it, so why won't the alarm volume?!? I'd rather not install another app, since this one is fine other than the volume issue. But this little issue is driving me insane!

Unable To Change Alarm Volume?

Sep 25, 2011

I'm writing a small application and having a bit of trouble setting the alarm volume. I've tried a couple of different methods, but neither actually seem to change the alarm volume.

My goal, is to mute all alarms under certain conditions. I have no issue checking the conditions, just actually changing the volume. I'm currently using the AudioManager class to make the changes .

setStreamVolume(int streamType, int index, int flags)

using STREAM_ALARM for the streamType. Using FLAG_SHOW_UI, it displays a toast showing that the volume was set properly, but if and alarm goes off, it still plays at full volume.I also tried

setStreamMute(int streamType, boolean state)

but again, the alarms go off as if nothing changed.

EDIT: I tested the same method with the media volume and it works perfectly. This leads me to believe the setting is being applied just as it should, but alarms simply aren't obeying the setting. This may have something to do with the fact that each alarm has it's own volume control. Still trying to find a way to mute them.

General :: Volume Button To Snooze Alarm

Feb 26, 2014

My device is a Motorola Moto G. I've updated it to the latest Android version available (4.4.2), however, I'm experiencing some serious problems; the most important atm is the alarm.

I am using the volume button to snooze the alarm, because imho it's more convenient. However, yesterday the volume button just didn't work for some reason. I had to unlock the screen for it to work, then it started working again with the screen locked. Today the same thing happened, I had to unlock the screen to snooze the alarm using the volume button, then I could snooze it again without unlocking, however, it just 'stopped' by itself, I don't know if the volume button somehow turned the alarm off. I didn't even touch the screen, so it's a bug or something. I've always been using a cell/smartphone to wake up and never had any problem.

Also, this device freezes a lot and I've never experienced that before in any cell/smartphone. It also seems the device must be turned on for the alarm to work; it's not that important for me, but still a 'downgrade' from my previous device. Another thing that really annoys me is that you can't even change the volume without playing the sounds... if you want to set a very loud volume in the middle of the night there's no way other than waking everybody up. Additionally, I would like to be able to somehow record a call, but none of the apps works with this device.

I don't think the alarm problem is a hardware fail or defective device, it seems to me the software is somehow bugged. There's no Cyanogenmod for this device yet (mine is dual chip) and even if it were available, It seems some apps doesn't work with it (like Sygic).

I don't know if I should try downgrading the OS to 4.3 or if there's something else I could try. I don't know if it's possible that the latest update was somehow 'badly flashed'. It doesn't seem very likely to me.
