Motorola Droid X :: After Installing Leaked / Unofficial Build Of Froyo?
Aug 21, 2010
This is a minor rant, and I'm not attempting to pick on any one individual. I'm just going crazy reading a new thread every 5 minutes of someone discovering a new issue with their X after installing a leaked and of course UNOFFICIAL build of Froyo. I mean you've already been warned of the potential problems and risks you might face with installing the leaked build; so why take the chance of potentially bricking your phone? Either way, maybe the mods can create a separate Froyo sub-forum for the time being, until we finally see an official release.

I loaded the leaked 2.2 when it first became available and then deleted update.zip from the SDCard Directory. 2.2 worked fine.I reverted back to 2.1 in order to be able to get the OTA version of 2.2. Reverting worked fine.I rooted 2.1 using Universal Androot.I installed the following apps: Titanium Backup, Root Explorer, DroidXBootstrap,I did a nandroid backup using Bootstrap.Based on the reports I read today of the OTA 2.2, I decided to re-install the leaked 2.2 Using Root Explorer, I moved su from Bin to Xbin directory in order to preserve root status.I connected the Droid X to my laptop and copied Update.zip to the SDCard. Note that my SD card if almost full - only 25MB left after copying update.zip.I then booted, cleared cache and proceeded to run the update.

i understand a lot of you are busy trying to fix this mess that is the OTA. I for one want to thank all of you that have put in your personal time and hard work to do for this community the things you have done. I also understand you have told everyone that when you do this stuff with your phone there is a risk. That being said what is the best way to go from 2.3.9 to 2.3.15 and stay rooted. I am currently running flyx on my phone as well that i love and i have a black status bar as well not sure if this makes a difference. Thank you for your help.

No Path to Official DROIDX Update Coming from Motorola for Leaked 2.2 Users | Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog Ouch. Honestly, I saw this coming. Ah well. For those who upgraded, and still want the official release, flashing the phone back to stock is not all that hard from what I've read.

Ok this is very simple folks. I took a trip to the root forum for some info for us common folk.
This is a LEAKED release, therefore motorola has not officially pushed it to our devices yet.
To install is easy
First download the file update.zip
update.zip
Now
1: Move update.zip to your SD card, do not put it in any folders, leave it on the root of the SD card. Do not unzip it.
2:Turn off your phone
3:Boot your phone into recovery mode. Do this by holding the home button and power button at the same time, until the motorola logo appears.
4:Use camera zoom keys to scroll down to "Apply update.zip"
5:Reboot phone
If you wish to revert back to 2.1, follow this link

I have a motorola droid milestone and it is my first smartphone. I followed a guide to install Froyo there. The other day and update to android started installing (supposedly from verizon) on system updates. For the last few days it has been downloading, finished downloading and then telling me the system is updated (no reboot nor anything) and then it will start to download again. I have no clue why that may be.
Build number is voles-userdebug 2.2 FRFxx 49593 test-keys
Only thing I did with a terminal emulator was remove a couple of applications
(visual voice mail and google search, google voice search and google earth to install them from the market as I was unable to update them).

Just curious what the bugs are that everyone talks about with 2.2
The only bug I notice is when I disable BT it mentions something about a SIM card.

As titled, I installed the leaked OTA tonight for the 720p recorder, boot animation, etc.It did reboot 3 times initially right after the update but I was expecting that.I waited about 30 minutes for good measure and then restored all of my apps and data with Titanium. Ever since then my phone has been rebooting itself for no reason. I have noticed that it does it more when I am launching certain programs. For a while it was just rebooting one right after the other and the home screen never came available, it just had a Loading... notification. Once it finally did load the home screen it looked like the Weatherbug was struggling to load and as soon as I click on it, the phone shuts off.I uninstalled the app and it hasn't been rebooting as much but for a phone that has never ever had one problem I'm kind of inconvenienced by this.

I just realized that for the past 30 minutes or so, I had my phone sitting on my comforter while I was tweaking it after installing the leaked Froyo ROM, and it was working!
Before I installed this ROM, my phone would NEVER work while sitting on my comforter without touching a finger to the side (the whole grounding issue).
It sure seems as if this update contained a fix for the grounding issue (like the EVO had a while back IIRC).

This is an update to the market fix thread from below. However, to fix streaming audio quality, it also requires build.prop changes. So please disregard that thread and take a look at this one.
market_streaming_fix_froyo.zip - 4shared.com - online file sharing and storage - download
Note, if you are having trouble with performance, this will JUST fix the market and return the streaming audio settings back to default.

I anyone else noticing issues with System Panel on the leaked Froyo Rom? I assume 2.2 handles memory in a different way, and System Panel doesn't read it correctly. It shows all of my apps running without anything being cached. Also, the CPU clock seems to be running at 700MHz or more constantly instead of coming down to ~300 or so like it showed on 2.1. However the CPU graph on the top left does come down like normal.

One thing that I really like about the phone is the ability to play music from my phone to my car stereo via Bluetooth because it has the A2DP. No wires and I can control the music ON the deck itself instead of the phone. I've updated the phone with the leaked froyo about 2 days after it was leaked. I noticed that I couldn't play music from my phone to my car stereo anymore via bluetooth. I am able to take calls fine via bluetooth while I am driving, it just won't play any music.

Original article:
http://www.xperiax10.net/2010/09/11/android-roadmap-leaked-for-xperia-x10-family/
We have been sent what is believed to be the Android roadmap for the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 family. It is in German and originates from last week's IFA show in Berlin. We can't verify whether it is real or not, but it appears legit to us. The roadmap highlights three major firmware releases: Android 1.6x, Android 2.1 and Android 2.1x. It shows that the Android 2.1 update for the Xperia X10 will get 720p video recording with continuous autofocus. HTML5 will also be adopted along with 5 homescreens and a social phonebook (facebook/twitter integration with your contacts). The document also points to a revised menu.
For the X10 mini, X10 mini pro and X8 the 2.1 update will bring with it a slight change in the four-corner navigation along with Bluetooth 2.1. These mobiles will also get the social phonebook and HTML5 adoption. Following this, there will then be the Android 2.1x update that will bring Sony Ericsson's revamped UX platform to Timescape and Mediascape along with more languages. Unfortunately, the roadmap for all handsets stops at 2.1x so I wonder whether we'll ever see Android 2.2 (Froyo) on the X10."
Update: According to forum member steinii1488 of se-world.info the Android 2.1 update is expected in October/November (this could be a regional thing as SE UK have promised an update by the end of Q3). He goes on to say that the Android 2.1x update will fall in December 2010/January 2011. This means that if SE is planning a Froyo update for the Xperia X10, it won't fall in 2010.

So right now I'm running the 2.3.13 leaked version (haven't upgraded to the now public 2.3.15 yet) and have Tranquility with REVOlution R2 theme installed. I guess my question is this:What's the benefit of going with the OTA upgrade vs. the leaked 2.3.15 (which I can easily upgrade to from the .13 build)? Is it worth all the hassle at this point to even consider the OTA or should I just wait it out?The other thing is I can't really tell what the difference between .13 and .15 are and if there's even any difference between the OTA and the leaked .15 build. I'm pretty content with my phone the way it is now, esp. with Tranq ROM and REVO R2 theme. I just wanted to get some opinions before I go spend another night toying with my phone. Is there even anyone here that paid for the leaked 2.3.15 and now has the OTA that may actually know if there's a (noticeable) difference between the leaked and the OTA.

I have, to me at least, a very stable 2.3.9 from when the original leak was pushed out. What a joy over 2.1!
I've been reading about deodexing, ROMs, Themes etc. Alot of this is for the OTA 2.2 which I find in my searches. All this requires root, which I am now prepared to do.
Is this the best way/most current way to root the 2.3.9?
How to root the Droid 2 - xda-developers
Or will this work on the leaked 2.2?

I really don't want to go the route of downgrading to 2.1, then back again, nor do I want the OTA 2.2.
