Motorola Droid :: Installing Froyo - Stuck On Android Update
Sep 6, 2010
I have a motorola droid milestone and it is my first smartphone. I followed a guide to install Froyo there. The other day and update to android started installing (supposedly from verizon) on system updates. For the last few days it has been downloading, finished downloading and then telling me the system is updated (no reboot nor anything) and then it will start to download again. I have no clue why that may be.
Build number is voles-userdebug 2.2 FRFxx 49593 test-keys
Only thing I did with a terminal emulator was remove a couple of applications
(visual voice mail and google search, google voice search and google earth to install them from the market as I was unable to update them).

Recieved the Froyo update last night. Hit install, every thing went well up untill the reboot. Stuck on Motorola screen. Took out the Battery ,, nothin still stuck on Motorola screen. Took it to Verizon they couldnt figure it out, Talked to Tech support which is really good at Verizon by the way. They were stumped. So in the end they are sending me a Brand new DX, with an extra SD card and Battery. Not a refurb. So I feel lucky at best.

I am in the middle of installing the 928 deodex blackglass. I used the bootstrap, made a backup then selected the 928 black glass from the Sd card. It started and states "installing update" but it is just sitting there. Been 25 min. What should I do, what did I do wrong?

Ok this is very simple folks. I took a trip to the root forum for some info for us common folk.
This is a LEAKED release, therefore motorola has not officially pushed it to our devices yet.
To install is easy
First download the file update.zip
update.zip
Now
1: Move update.zip to your SD card, do not put it in any folders, leave it on the root of the SD card. Do not unzip it.
2:Turn off your phone
3:Boot your phone into recovery mode. Do this by holding the home button and power button at the same time, until the motorola logo appears.
4:Use camera zoom keys to scroll down to "Apply update.zip"
5:Reboot phone
If you wish to revert back to 2.1, follow this link

I tried to install a p3 low voltage froyo kernel and now I can't get any of my kernels to boot up. The p3 made my droid unusable so I tried reinstalling another one on my sd card and it's now stuck at the "M" no matter what kernel I try. Is there a way to install the stock kernel that came with the BB ROM or should I just reinstall the ROM itself?

I rooted my X so I could take screenshots. I saw all the hoopla over the new froyo release, and figured I'd try it. Well, now I'm bricked or stuck in endless boot, whichever, and can't get past the Motorola Logo. What can I do? I plug my phone into my pc and it doesnt even recognize it. I keep seeing people telling others to flash the .sbf, but I don't even know what that means.

This is a minor rant, and I'm not attempting to pick on any one individual. I'm just going crazy reading a new thread every 5 minutes of someone discovering a new issue with their X after installing a leaked and of course UNOFFICIAL build of Froyo. I mean you've already been warned of the potential problems and risks you might face with installing the leaked build; so why take the chance of potentially bricking your phone? Either way, maybe the mods can create a separate Froyo sub-forum for the time being, until we finally see an official release.

I was trying deodexing manually and ran into big problems, now in bootloop. I want to just custom recovery restore to the deodexed ROM here (Droid X 2.2 Froyo Deodexed and Ready For Themes) but cannot because I get the following error every time I try to restore a backup from custom recovery: "e:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0 device or resource busy.I think I found out that it is because this Koush recovery is the original 2.1 version, so I need the 2.2 one.Two things:-Where do I get this 2.2 newer version? His site doesn't mention it but maybe he just replaced the file download without mentioning? http://www.koushikdutta. com/2010/08/droid-x-recovery.html)-How can I install this newer recovery if I am stuck in bootloop?

Just did the OTA froyo update from O2 last night. All appeared to go well and successful, past the point where I heard other people's got stuck. But when I slide down the slider and put in my password, it gets stuck in a force close loop for com.htc.launcher. Seems to not be able to open sense and keeps looping round.I saw a post from someone saying they had that problem, but then they just hit the search button and got the quicksearch, went to settings, then cleared the data for the appropriate application and then it worked fine. But when I hit the search button, nothing happens. If I hold it down, I get the google voice search, but I can't seem to get to settings from there.Does anyone know another method to get into settings as I'm hopeful this will fix my problem as suggested by some others. I'd much rather that than take it back to O2.

For the past couple weeks I've had the problem of the phone taking a long time to turn off. This started shortly after installing the 2.1 update. Tonight I turned the phone off and nearly ten minutes later I finally heard the shutdown sound. Sometimes it takes 3 minutes, sometimes later. I have found that if I don't hear the shutdown sound I can press the power button and the screen will come back on then it will shutdown.
Is anyone else having this problem? I'm not really sure what would be causing this problem because I've checked it before and haven't had any extra running services other than the keyboard and voice input services when it was turning off.

I was running NexFro 1.01 but due to alot of buggyness on my phone I had to abandon it and go back to NextBeastvs 1.1 on firmware 2.1.
After which my reception went to hell even after I did a *228,2. So I tried to install the baseband update .43.01 from the link located here:
http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-droid/121527-what-baseband-everyone.html
However it just error's out when I try to install from the SD card using lockwork, says Installation aborted.
Does this baseband only work for 2.2? If so what is the best one for firmware 2.1?

So I DL'd then installed 2.2, that went fine. It rebooted and it stays on the M logo. I can hear the "droid" where it boots but it stays on the logo
I've tried pulling the battery, even for 5-6 mins, going into system recovery mode and clearing cache and still the same thing.
Not sure what to do here. I hear it's some sort of boot-loop error?
Left battery out for 10-15 mins and now it boots fine. Phew

If anyone gets the update as a test user, post the update.zip here in a mediafire, etc., link. Hit install later and save to SD card, then mount the phone to the computer and move to your computer then upload to a file hosting site of choice. We wont have to wait for it to "roll out" by this method. Once downloaded from said link, and saved to your computer, move to root of SD card, boot into recovery and install update.zip.

Since no one knows when the update is going to come to the Droid. Could be tomorrow or in three months. Its all up in the air. It could happen anytime. Anyways, What do you need to do?
Have a battery near full all the time?
Backup your Aps?
Backup contacts?
Since I am assuming you can get the update without warning, I just wanted to know what steps to take, so I can have no problems with an OTA update.

I updated to BB 0.4 from a previous old 2.2 installation. Now I'm stuck in an endless reboot loop! It alternates between Droid and the red Droid eye!
1) I copied update.zip to the root of the drive.
2) I installed update.zip
3) Install was successful
4) Rebooted

When I root my droid 2.1 and whenever 2.2 aka froyo comes out what do I do to update it to that operating system? Is it easy? Or should I just wait till 2.2 comes out then root from there.

I've never modded/rooted my Droid X, right. I do the manual update Settings - About - Update or whatever and it updates. It supposedly finishes and after it reboots I get stuck @ the Motorola "M" screen indefinitely. After that it wouldn't start up @ all and wouldn't respond to anything. So now I'm attempting an SBF root. Is this the right thing to do?

So I rooted my droid about 2 months ago. I have Bugless Beast V0.4 and I used SPRecovery. No joke, but as soon as I rooted, I got the official Froyo update from VZW. I clicked on install and it took me to recovery mode ( i think that's what it's called) and I just clicked on "reboot now" and my phone stayed rooted. Now I'm getting the Froyo update message about once a week (since then) and each time I just "reboot" the phone. Well today I got a text from VZW saying that my droid was sent the Android 2.2 update and to click for more info. What do I do and/or how do I stop the updates from coming? I love the way my droid is right now and do not want to change it.!

I rooted my Android Motorola Droid X. I've heard mixed reviews about whether or not I can upgrade when the update comes out to Froyo or if I have to set my phone back to root. I used the easy root tool to root my phone but if I need to put it back is there an easy unroot program? Or do I not need to worry about the rooting.
