My son's droid got stolen last weekend and when the replacement arrived on Monday we went through the activation process and were shocked when everything but the pictures and music that was on the sd card in the old phone came back automatically! So my question is...how did this happen? What does the droid backup on it's own?

Is supposed to cache the route as to not drain the battery life as fast and also to help with poor reception areas. My question is do you have to tell it to cache or is that done automatically?

Ever since I've reinstalled it it refuses to use the carrier voicemail and insists on fowarding to my Google Voice account. Now this isn't terrible except for the fact that since it insists on going to Google Voice it takes 45 seconds to pickup. I really want my google voice number and my vzw phone # voicemail to be separate.

View 6 Replies View RelatedThis is my first android device and i'm loving it... but one thing that irks me is the use, or lack thereof, of the back button.
As I am navigating menus and options in the Settings, I cannot simply go back one menu using the back key. For example, if I go to Settings->Battery Manager->Battery Profile Options and want to go back to the Settings screen, I cannot.
Pushing the back button does nothing and I can only go back to the Settings menu by going Home, then re-entering.
Another quirk regarding the back button is when reading emails. Using a regular email account such as Hotmail, I cannot simply read an email and go back to the inbox using the button.
It makes navigating the phone very tedious.
I just noticed that my Google calendar isn't automatically syncing with my phone despite the fact that I have it set to sync automatically. I enter new appointments on my computer and it isn't until I go in and actually ask the phone to sync that the appointments show up. Anyone else noticed this? Any fix? I've been through all the settings and can't seem to find a setting to set it to sync for specific time intervals (every hour, or once a day, etc.). Anyone else find this setting?

I downloaded bootstrap and the first thing i did was create a nandroid back up for my x. then i proceeded to try and install tranquility rom. it got stuck in a bootloop. so when i rebooted into recovery it now goes for some reason to the droid stock recovery and i can't revert back to my back up. what do i do?!
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm finding that I'm using the back button A LOT whether browsing the web or just navigating the OS. It kind of sucks because the buttons on the droid x are well, really small, and sometimes hard to press because they are so narrow and flimsy feeling. And depending on how you are holding the phone, it could be a good bit of distance for your thumb to travel or I'm finding myself having to reposition the phone in my hands just to reach the back button, which you seem to need very frequently.
Anyone know of any kind of back 'swipe' implementation ? Like some software you can install that makes it if you swipe left to right on maybe the top bar it goes back?
i have upgraded my viewsonic pad from gingerbread to ics, downloaded from official site, no problem installing it, everything is fine except when i open anything whether app or not (eg settings) after a few mins the tablet automatically goes back to home screen, i have noticed that it occurs more when i am holding it if its on a stable surface it doesn't do it as much. i have tried redownloading the file and installing twice now and its still the same.

Yesterday all my contacts and my google accounts, to which they were synchronised, disappeared. Just like that, out of the blue.
I tried to add the google account again, but I keep getting a "can't establish reliable data connection" error. It is not a network access issue because internet and email (imap, not gmail) work fine, plus I tried with two different SIMs and with Wi-Fi, but to no avail.
I read about people deleting some files from their rooted Android and/or hard resetting their phones, but these fixes don't seem to always work and I'd rather try something else first.
I must say that, even though I like Android, I am getting very annoyed at how unreliable and buggy it has proven compared to my iphone and blackberry. Is it too much to ask to have a phone that doesn't reboot every other minute and that doesn't delete your contacts?
For example when I was using the camera and as soon as a snap a pic it goes back to the home screen, not all the time, but annoying nonetheless. It just did that when I was using google maps also.

Wasn't sure if I was going to keep it (bought it dirt cheap so was maybe going to resell it) but after playing around with it I decided to keep it. Rooted it, flashed in custom cyanogen ROM...set it up just the way I wanted it, all before activating the phone. LOL
So as I'm sure many of you know, you can't activate with a custom ROM. From what I've read in other forums, rooting doesn't matter when activating, it's all about the ROM. So I'll have to flash back to stock 2.1 to activate this thing. I called Sprint and played dumb but there was no way they could activate it apparently. Well, technically the phone is "activated" but can not be "programmed" for use with a custom ROM.
So will the flashback to stock 2.1 de-root? Or can I just back up my current ROM, flash to stock 2.1, activate and then simply reload my custom ROM?
I've only just noticed an issue that after disconnecting from wifi my phone doesn't automatically go back to 3G/2G.
I have to turn the wifi back on and when it can't find one only then does it decide to connect to 3G/2G.
Didn't have this issue before and I'm thinking the latest update (1.31.405.5) has something to do with it.
Anybody else having similar issues?
BTW I'm on the vodafone UK network.
His has been one of my biggest problems with blue tooth. I work in the hvac field and love my blue tooth head set. Here is my problem, When I hang up from a bluetooth call my screen automatically comes back on in my pocket. Then I end up with a pocket dial. I can not tell you how frustrating this is. I can not find a setting to solve this problem. If I answer via blue tooth why is my screen coming on after the call.

When entering a new contact on an iPhone, the info is automatically synced with Google contacts, and vice versa. My Google contacts automatically appear in my phone directory, but how can I get new contacts entered thru my phone synced to my google account, without having to manually select 'contact type' when entering the info?

View 25 Replies View Relatedi figured out how to make the USB cord find the droid when you plug it in the comp, you drag down the notification menu and hit "mount" and it pops up the folders on windows.. i got that part
but i was wondering if there was a way to just make the folders pop up automatically so you don't have to drag the notification menu every time and hit "mount".
after restarting my phone, it asked for my Google sign in (I upgraded to 2.1) but when I put in my password it tells me that there's a network error.I've tried restarting and retrying but the same thing happens.Has anybody else had this problem or have any way to fix it?
View 6 Replies View RelatedDon't burn me at the stake, but I want to switch back from Google Voice, but when I switch to carrier voicemail, it asks for a voicemail number, which I assumed was my phone number, but when I enter that, calling voicemail just goes to voicemail, as if someone called me. My reason for switching is because the SMS feature is about 25% accurate and when I turned that off, I stopped getting sotifications that I had received a Voicemail.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI have noticed that many of my applications seem to automatically close making the phone seem "slower" when I try to reopen recently opened applications. The main applications that I have noticed closing are Handcent and the home screen (extremely annoying when the home screen needs to reload randomly). I have Advanced Task Manager (put the items i dont want closed on exclude) and noticed that when i click refresh some of the items sometimes disappear. I've tried turning off Advanced Task Manager and still have the some issue...Here are some things to know about my droid:
Rooted, Running Bugless Beast v1.0 -
Running at up to 1ghz (tried lowering and didn't make a difference)
Using Helix Launcher 2 (tried switched to default home screen and also no difference)
I've had a problem with my apps not automatically restoring when I flash a custom ROM.I'm not using titanium but using Google's service as I log in with mg Google account.Is this a known issue or am I doing something wrong?The last ROM I tried to flash was Chevy's 4.7 and no apps came through from the market but all of my contacts synced.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a moto droid 1 and my wifi keeps messing up. When I go into wifi to turn on, it will say "turning on" but then immediately say "turning off." It will continually do this over and over again until finally saying "error." Not really sure why or how to fix this, but it is pretty annoying that I can't use my wifi.

After I logged into my google account, and everything synced down, I got a message in the notification bar saying "35 applications restored"? My applications didn't get restored when I went from DroidMod 1.0, wiped everything, and then went to CyanogenMod 5.0.7.1 with a full wipe of 2.1. Is this a new feature of 2.2?
