Android : Google Voice: Automatically Presses 1 When Answering
Nov 4, 2010
Is there an app that will automatically press 1 when answering a call from someone who called the google voice number?I would prefer not to turn off 'call screening' because if my cellphone is off or doesn't have service (e.g. at work), any calls to my google voice number will go to voicemail instead of ringing my other phones.I recently learn off the Tasker app. Can this be configured to do this?

I have a Droid X. I've rooted the sucker and I've had to reinstall it once. Ever since I've reinstalled it it refuses to use the carrier voicemail and insists on fowarding to my Google Voice account. Now this isn't terrible except for the fact that since it insists on going to Google Voice it takes 45 seconds to pickup. I really want my google voice number and my vzw phone # voicemail to be separate.

1) How do I switch my phone from using EVDo to 1x only? I use an Airave, and it uses more battery since it is always trying to find the best data signal from a tower.
2) How do I stop google voice from loading and running automatically whenever i reboot my phone? If i go to menu>settings>applications>running services, I can force stop it there, but I dont want it ever loading, I don't use google vioce.

You get the number from Google voice and obviously you can make calls. Why can't you just cancel your voice and text plan and just keep your data package and use it like that? Will T-Mobile allow that?

Haven't seen this tip yet on here:
If you'd like to have your voice mail log in automatically (instead of having to type your password in) go to settings>call settings>Voicemail>
enter *86,1234#
1234 = whatever your pin is.
the "," is a 2 second pause. you may have to play with this and add another "," if it enters the pin too quickly after you call.

I finally changed the voicemail system on my Hero from Sprint's "visual voicemail" (which is misleading because it doesn't transcribe voicemails) to Google Voice. It's nice to see my transcribed voicemails now. However, when I actually want to hear them (if the transcription didn't work well), it only comes through the external speaker; the speaker on the back of the phone. I went into Google Voice settings and under "Voicemail Playback" I tried the only two options: "Play via Handset" and "Play via Speaker." Unfortunately, both play through the speaker phone speaker. How do I change it to the phone speaker? I also can't adjust the volume, so the whole world hears my voicemails through the external speaker.

I changed the voice mail number from *86 (version default) to my Google voice number. This works when I am not answering the phone and I the caller gets connected to my GV account. But when my phone is not in coverage the caller gets my version voice mail. Appreciate if someone can correct my settings or suggest any app that does it. I am from Windows mobile world and missing those settings when you can define several settings for voice mail (unanswered, rejected, unavailable etc...)

I tried searching for the question I'm about to ask and didn't find any threads so here it goes. Can someone post the steps to setting up Google Voice as visual voice mail for the Captivate? I know it's probably something very simple but I just can't figure it out ( yes, I'm a bit slow ).

To program your voice mail code so you don't have to enter it every time you check your voice mail:
menu>settings>call>voicemail settings>voicemail number>
If your code is 7777, this is how you would program it: *86p7777#p1
The p stands for pause. Once you program this, all you have to do to check your voice mail is hold down the 1 button on the phone and the phone will do the rest.I'm pretty new to smartphones. This is one of my favorite tricks.

Following the samples and examples, I've successfully been able to load a model on screen and rotate it with the DPAD keys and overriding the onKeyDown method of the GLSurfaceView. Trying to use a letter though, causes a small box to appear at the bottom accepting the text that is being typed. What I'm not entirely clear on, is since I don't have a listener defined in the main Activity, why those key letter key presses are being intercepted by some other inherent listener(?). I setup an OnKeyListener for the view to call my own method and that does work... but I'm wondering if there is perhaps a better way to handle it.

I just got a new incredible last week, and have already been using a Google Contacts account for some time. When entering a new contact on an iPhone, the info is automatically synced with Google contacts, and vice versa. My Google contacts automatically appear in my phone directory, but how can I get new contacts entered thru my phone synced to my google account, without having to manually select 'contact type' when entering the info?

a hardware bug on my Samsung Galaxy S Plus.I'm writing this in the general forums since it doesnt seem to be a bug specific to the phone (no reports anywhere online) and the question itself is therefore not device specific. So i have a hardware home button on the phone which sometimes registers two clicks instead of one.On a 1sec press this would mean the following events:
- button down event
1sec pause
- button up event
- button down event
- button up event
So since this doesn't occur regularly and i want to somehow log presses of the home button and i dont know any way to do that in android. It doesn't need to run in the background but could be for example be opened specifically to test the button.

My son's droid got stolen last weekend and when the replacement arrived on Monday we went through the activation process and were shocked when everything but the pictures and music that was on the sd card in the old phone came back automatically! So my question is...how did this happen? What does the droid backup on it's own?

I have searched around for an answer to these two issues, but haven't been able to find anything. After doing the manual upgrade to 2.1 OTA, most everything is fine. However, Google Voice and Google Listen are having issues. Google Voice is giving me a Force Close message every time I receive a text message in Hand cent SMS (to my non-GV number). I don't actually use GV on my voice all that often. Google Listen seems to have lost all trace of any of my pod casts, including new ones that have come in since the update. Every episode on every pod cast has, just under the title: "Error (sd card/com.goggle.android.apps.listen/downloads/e55bee71)" The string of letters and numbers on each one is different. I used Astor File Manager to look in this folder and each of those files is not there. Some of these folders were downloaded a month ago (I'm a little slow in getting to some pod casts) and some I have listened to already pre update but still getting the error now. Some that I have listened to are not giving the error. And any that were downloaded after the update are giving the error.

Would it be possible to add a line of code to the Google Hangouts app on Android to receive forwarded Google Voice calls as it does on the iOS app?
There's been apps like Groove IP that are already able to provide this feature. I'd just like to have this functionality without having to install any 3rd party apps that always have to be running in the background. Google Hangouts is already the primary sms app for Android & so it is already able to receive texts, mms, along with video and voice chats. Thus, it should be somewhat possible to receive call forwarding from Google voice.

I am relatively new to this still, and I have been developing a small app that would benefit greatly from a user being able to press 2 buttons at one time. What is the best method for achieving this? I dont think that an OnClickListener works like that, and I have seen examples for doing this with an OnTouch event. However, I do not know how to set up button presses with an OnTouch event.

I am using Captivate on the AT&T network and looking into goggle voice. Since the main feature I am interested in (for now) is the visual voice mail, I was thinking of getting the option without the GV number and therefore, keeping my cell phone number. I have several questions:
1. Does this work well with the Captivate phone?
2. Is there any delay in getting the voice mails by going through GV?
3. Does this eat into my data plan at all? Currently, I am only on the 200 mb plan per month.
4. If I try to get text messages through GV, would that not use up my data plan and instead come through my Internet connection ( which could at times be free if I am in a WiFi zone)?

I am writing an activity where the user is supposed to some editing and is critical. In this activity, I dont want pressing of Call key to make it go to Call Log so I handle onKeyDown call back and there if the key pressed is Call, I just return true. That solves my problem. But, if Options menu is opened and then I press Call button, I am not getting control in onKeyDown.

I was wondering if anyone has been using Google Talk exclusively for SMS and ditched their texting w Verizon all together. I mainly ask as I am curious how reliable it is as a replacement for SMS. I'd love to cut my phone bill by $20 a month. My friend (5-6 months ago) said he was having issues w Gtalk in regards to some msgs not sending, or he never actually received them to his phone. He had issues with his N1 on Tmobile. Is anyone still experiencing similar problems? My SMS MUST function and be completely reliable as I use it constantly to communicate with my managers.

I am creating an Android service which constantly runs in the background. I'd like to be able to intercept calls to the power button to:
a) prevent the screen coming on
b) handle the power button press in a different manner. This is to enable the user to have a very simple interface to my application and prevent wasting battery powering up the screen when it is not required.
I will probably need an alternative mechanism to actually bring the screen back up (such as an extended key press or similar), but this only becomes relevant if what I'm after is possible.

My MAIN activity is spawning a child activity that contains a ListView. While this ListView is being populated (through an AsyncTask), an indeterminate progress bar is shown. However, assuming that I am an impatient user and I press the BACK button, the progress bar is cancelled but I am left with a blank screen. I have to press BACK one more time to go back to the MAIN activity.I would like the app to go back directly to the MAIN activity by pressing BACK only once. Can somebody point me in the right direction? I am thinking I should call finish() somewhere but I don't know where to put it.
