Motorola Droid : Way To Back Up Apps / Data To SD Card?

Sep 7, 2010

What is the difference between these two apps? I am planning on rooting eventually and DL'd My Backup Pro and made backups of my apps and data on my SD card. Am I going to regret not getting Titanium Backup, or are they basically the same? Also, is what I did sufficient backup; backing up apps and data to my SD card? Or is there something else I am missing?

Motorola Droid :: How To Get Apps / Settings Back

Dec 29, 2009

I probably nuked my Droid doing something, either messing with it rooted or cold/snow/moisture got to it. I'd be in the middle of a call and the other person wouldn't hear me. This would happen randomly. I went to Verizon and they simply shipped me a new phone.

Now that I have it, i thought all my apps would be on the SD card. Nope. I can only get back Apps that are the Market has marked as needing update. all my other apps are gone. How can I move them along with my custom setting like GDE etc?

Motorola Droid :: Alternate Way To Back Apps To Computer

Mar 5, 2010

I have been experimenting on how to make an easy backup of my apps when installing different (alternate) ROMs, and I tried to use the method that Fabolous uses, but my DROID doesn't seem to like that method at all.

Not.
One.
Bit.

So, I remembered some instructions that I saw earlier, in another thread, on how to edit the color of fonts and such in your system, and I thought "Yanno, that push / pull can be very very useful if I can figure it out." So, I played around with some trial and error, and got it working. Now, with my system, I have edited the System PATH environment variable to include the full path to my Android SDK tools directory, so I can simply run adb commands from the run dialog (like Code:

my messages (read gmail, sms) personal information (read contact data) storage (my sd card) services that cost you money(directly call phone numbers)

General :: Apps Don't Use New External SD Card For Data

May 1, 2012

When I setup my A100 (running the ICS OTA update), I didn't have an SD card installed. It created it's own "fake" sdcard which applications use.

Now that I've added a real external sdcard, I can't get the applications to use that for their data instead of the "fake" location.

I've copied everything from the "fake" location to the new sdcard.

I suspect the problem is that the new, real sd card is called "external_sd" and the old, "fake" location is called "sdcard".

Do I need to reinstall those applications?

I am NOT trying to move applications to the external SD card; I just wants apps that normally store data there to do so instead of in the "fake" location.

Also, I am not rooted.

General :: How To Use External SD Card For Apps And Data

I'm running JB 4.1.2 and I've pretty much used up all the internal phone storage with installing games and other apps. I have an 8MB external SD with nothing on it and I'm basically wanting to transfer either the whole of android onto it if thats possible, or alternatively if thats not possible then just the larger files and folders like game data (for example GTA vice city obb takes up a whopping 1.5gb alone).

Motorola Droid :: Dupe - Where Is Contact Data Stored - Memory / SD Card

Mar 11, 2010

So, the moron at the Verizon store who was activating my replacement Droid decided to import or retrieve contact data from my broken droid / SD card....he didn't know that it handled all the contacts from the cloud. As soon as I entered my gmail login it imported all my contacts and so, now I have contacts with duplicate data and some contacts that are now just phone numbers. I tried deleting the contact data and resyncing but it appears to be grabbing this duplicate data from somewhere. All my contacts are CLEAN in gmail when viewed online. But if I look on the phone, when go to edit them each person has 1 contact with multiple google contacts merged together. The problem is, any time I go to search contacts or enter a contact in email or create a contact shortcut, all of them are appearing twice in the selection list.

I went through each contact and split the merges, essentially deleting the dupes, but they are still appearing multiple times in the search/selection lists....and when I resync the dupes come back. I don't see anything that looks like contact data/backup on the SD card and don't know if that is something that can be deleted from the phone's memory or not?

[I know I can deleted all the dupes, but my concern is that I did this already and they came back. Is this data stored anywhere else that it might be pulling it from again when I sync?]

Motorola Droid X :: Killing Unwanted Apps / Coming Back To Life

Nov 16, 2010

My DroidX has several pieces of bloatware from Verizon or Motorola. I don't mind giving up a little Ram space for them, but many are running all of the time. After you kill them they come back to life. Why does Music, Maps, SkypeMobile, CityId etc. need to run when I haven't even started them? I "assume" that they are just waiting until the end of a time period (an hour I hope rather than a second) to check if the need to "call home". If they are doing much they are eating battery time which isn't as good as I would like. I realize that I would have to root my Droid to remove the apps. Is there an easier ways to keep them from running?

Motorola Droid :: Placing Apps On Sd Card

Mar 30, 2010

I can see two sides of this. By placing apps on the SD card you free up memory so your phone runs faster and smoother. BUT! I know that different cards read and write at different speeds. SO, in theory, you could slow down how fast your apps run by placing them on an SD card. Is this the case? Or does the card run fast enough that you are only seeing improved performance.

Motorola Droid :: Apps Installed To SD Card

Aug 30, 2010

Not sure if this is an issue with the ROM I'm using (Sapphire 1.0), ADW Launcher, or just an issue with Android. Any app I have installed on SD doesn't show its icon. Example, I had a shortcut to Vignette on my home screen. Once I moved it to SD it no longer showed the little Camera icon, just a generic Android icon. This happened with every app I moved.

Motorola Droid :: Is It Possible - And/or Smart - To Put All Apps Onto The SD Card

Nov 28, 2010

I've looked (probably in the wrong places), but I can't seem to find an answer to this...I haven't been following the root scene the past few months.

I'm running UD 2.1, and loving the shit out of it. However, I have a couple questions about apps on the SD card:
-Is it possible (and/or smart) to put all apps onto the SD card?
-If yes, what's the best procedure? (partition required?)
-Does the market recognize apps to update/etc from the SD?
-Can you set apps to install to SD by default?
-And finally, if all apps are on the SD, does that remove the need to backup/restore apps when switching between roms?
