Motorola Droid :: Factory Reset (Settings / Privacy / Factory Data Reset) Not Working
Jun 6, 2010Just ran reset on my phone twice...it rebooted and nothing was removed! Never seen this before anyone have any thoughts? I'm on CM 5.0.7.1, and haven't seen this behavior before on that or any other ROM. Gonna boot into recovery and do it manually.

Nov 14, 2010I just rooted and will soon install a new ROM and kernel which I understand requires a factory reset. There are certain things I want to backup before doing and know of Titanium Backup and MyBackup but wasn't sure if one or the other could do everything I needed. This what I'd like backed up I think that covers everything. Can anyone tell me if either Titanium or MyBackup can do all of this? Anything else I should want backed up (that isn't already by Google) but not thinking of?

Apr 8, 2010After I received the OTA to 2.1 I have noticed more lag when scrolling between home screens, using 2D games is painful with the framerate reduction, and many items that are running in the background without me ever starting them. I also cannot seem to keep them closed either. I can also say that I am getting worse battery life now than I was with 2.0.1. I was wondering what would actually happen if I rebooted into Recovery Mode and did a Factory Reset with Data Wipe. Would this possibly help with the update causing these problems that were not there before?

Sep 13, 2010so i had been having problems with the whole random rebooting issue that some people on the droid x have been having, so i called tech support and i had tried everything that they had suggested except the factory data reset. i was hesitant to do that because it just seems like doing something like that would never let me get my phone to working the way that it used to work. you know the way i had everything set up. well after the phone kept rebooting on its own i decided i would give it a shot. sure enough the phone just doesnt seem to be running the same as it did before. the phone seems to lag more, i am having to touch icons several times at times to make them work. task killer isnt running the way that it should. it just seems like the factory data reset made everything on the phone work just a little bit worse. has anyone else had this experience?

HTC Droid Eris :: Factory Data Reset Changed
May 24, 2010After months of being really happy with 1.5, I ran with OTA 2.1 for about a week.... hated it! While I didn't see any outright bugs, the phone had hugely sluggish response, very poor battery life, etc. Finally decided to to the Factory Data Reset this morning, and voila - lovin' my Eris again.
Things to note:
Before Factory Data reset w/ 2.1 OTA:
- Phone uptime and awake time were almost equal (not good)
- Had the 50% without signal message
- 'Android System' always listed as top user of battery usage (60-70%)
- Even while idle, phone always felt 'warm' (like it was continually running a background process, as evidence by poor battery life)
After Factory Data reset w/ 2.1 OTA:
- Phone uptime and awake time now as expected (awaketime < uptime)
- No more 50% signal message
- Cell Standby and Phone Idle now top users of batter usage.
- Phone now cool to the touch while idle
One thing to note is even after the reset, I still had issues syncing Gmail contacts, and needed to delete the contacts cache.
While I won't conjecture about root cause, I'm hoping Google and VZ learn from this experience, as much of this mucking about is *way* beyond what most 'normal' users would put up with. My wife loves her iPhone and just laughs at me dealing with all this c**p. Besides, I can't remember the last time *she* had to reboot her phone..
HTC Droid Eris :: After Factory Reset - No Data Connection - Unable To Make Phone Calls?
Aug 18, 2010So, first, here's what happened. Did a factory reset of my phone. When it came back up and I went to activate it, no data connection, unable to make phone calls. After 2 hours on the phone with VZW tech support, I can make calls, but have no data connection. They are sending me a "new" one. The concensus of the VZW tech and myself, problem with my phone. 2 days later, my wife resets her phone because of memory usage issues (she had to much on it). Same exact thing happened to her. Being the fiesty woman that she is she is going to a VZW store today to raise holy hell and throughorly degrade the poor rep that she is going to talk to, to get some answers. My question to all my fine fellow Eris users, have you seen this before? If in our position, do we deserve a new phone, and not an eris? Will this happen with a replacement eris due to a fault in the 2.1 update?

Aug 31, 2010So I'm still fairly new to Android (Incredible's my first Android devide), and was skeptical about install the RUU (thanks for the guide, true!). But when I read that others who had used the OTA or update.zip sometimes had to do a factory reset as well, I figured using RUU wouldn't hurt. In fact I believe (IMO, which has no technical backing) that RUU may be better than OTA/update.zip, because like upgrading an OS on a computer, a fresh install is better that upgrading over a previous OS. Anyway enough of that. My biggest hang-up was backing-up my apps, contacts & text messages (realizing that settings couldn't be saved, no matter what I tried). Since I had never rooted/done anything with my Incredible prior to this, I was also worried about losing apps that I paid for. Now while the following may seem basic to most of you, I know I would have loved to have had this information prior to my RUU update, just to put my mind at ease. So, to anyone out there who's on the fence, check this out. This does not save 3rd party apps. If you have those, you'll need to back those up using ASTRO or App Monster* Before anything else, download AppBrain App Market (it's in the Market). Open the app, and click on "Manage my apps", then sign-in using your Gmail account. Once it's set, click on the "Sync with AppBrain" button on the bottom left side. Then, you can go to www.appbrain.com, log-in with your Gmail account there, and see all of your apps (under "My Apps" at the top) accounted for on your phone (this is also a great place to find new apps, but that's for a different time). Once you've basically accounted for all your apps on AppBrain, you're good to go with free apps.

I turned it off and then wasn't able to turn it back on, so I took it off the charger (wall outlet) and held down the power button. Aug 15, 2010Had my HTC Wildfire for about a month now and enjoyed it immensely. I've installed tons of apps and tried as much stuff as I could. Unfortunately now my phone has started restarting at random intervals. Middle of the night, at noon, you never know. From what I understand all my apps can be redownloaded quite easily from the market - but what about those I didn't get from the market? I'm only thinking of a factory reset because of the restarts and because I feel the phone has become a little sluggish and I don't know what else to do to fix it.

Sep 2, 2010I have not yet gotten the OTA update for 2.2 on my phone, but I am assuming that it will be here soon and once I do get it I am also assuming that I will most likely need to do a factory reset after reading all the problems that members on here are encountering. Now I already have AppBrain installed and have my apps synced to my online account so I can easily download them again if I do a factory reset. My questions however though are the following 1) Is there any way to preserve application data such as the notes I had in a notepad application before doing a factory reset? 2) Is there any way to keep calendar data and contact data if they were inputted as phone data entries and not synced via Google?

Sep 2, 2010okay, this is really frustrating. i got my 2.2 today, and then i did a factory reset. everything is great except i can't seem to get my keyboard to change to swype. i have it installed, and i select it as my keyboard, but i cannot get it to come up. i have the official beta, and i also have a modified version with microphone, and i've tried both, neither is being recognized. does anyone know how to get my phone to use the swype keyboard when i have selected the damn thing? is there an additional setting i have to find? it's not app specific, either, i've checked several things, handcent, internet, mail, whatever. stock keyboard is all i get.

Aug 8, 2010I know there was a bulletin on not to do it if you had 2.1, but I was rooted using SS4.6. I had switched ROMs, between about three of them the past week, and didn't do a full wipe, just to be safe. But the phone was starting to get real slow, regardless of the ROM, so I just did a factory reset using Clockwork Recovery and now I don't seem to be getting 3G anymore. I can still get data, just at 1X. It'll say "3G" when idle, but once I'm browsing, it bumps down to 1X again. This couldn't possibly be what was suggested not to do for 2.1 owners, was it? Despite being on 2.2?
