Motorola Droid :: Use Phone To Read Books / App To Do So?
May 8, 2010
Is there a good way for me to use my Droid to read books? I presently use an IPOD touch and the kindle reader app but I was thinking on selling it. Do any of you use the Droid as a book reader? If so what app do you use and where do you order books that can be used with that apps reader?
Also I know you can play videos on the Droid. If I wanted to put my own ripped movies on the Droid can I do that? Does the droid recognize XVID or Mpeg? What movie player would I need to use? I have a whole bunch of tv dvd's that I want to rip and watch on the train.

I like to listen to audiobooks from the library. I use Overdrive, but it only allows me to download MP3's. I would like to be able to listen to WMA audiobooks, is there a player that will allow me to do this?

I downloaded Laputa eBook reader a while back, and have already downloaded about a dozen books through it. Now the update for Laputa has come through I reads my library as empty, and there is no way to manually add the books already on my SD card. And failing that, anyone know of a good reader that actually works?

I have a problem on my Asus ME301T tablet with the Play Books app (I'm running android 4.2). Regular text based books work just fine, however, comic books show as blank pages. Sometimes it will load a few pages if I rotate the screen a few times.
I've tried to reinstall the app and redownload the comics without luck. It works fine on my Samsung i9000 running android 4.3.

I downloaded Aldiko and I'd like to purchase some books for it. I've seen some sites that sell in the epub format but they are a bit on the expensive side. I like the prices that Amazon and Barnes & Noble offer for their ebooks but I think they are in a proprietary format. I guess my question is, where is a good place to purchase epub books at a reasonable price?

First time post here. I did a quick search with "overdrive" and it yielded no relevant results that I could see so I thought I would venture a post on this app.So far I'm finding that when I hit the download button at the library I'm logged into it is recognizing the download key but nothing is getting downloaded. I'm speculating that the library does not not have the tech stuff in place to download to the Droid but that's just it.I have contacted Overdrive with the issue and they replied and asked what browser I was using. I thought Droids only come with one browser. I told them I am using the default Droid browser.Any others having issues? I realize Overdrive is a new deal to Android but this could be a great app. Most of what we (wife and I) listen to is checked out or rented so this option is a great value for us.

The documentation on Google's websites is great, but it would also be great to have a text to carry around. Are there any *good* books on programming in Android yet?

If so, do you think they shake their heads in disgust that we have to change or enhance everything they do? Or do they glow with pride, knowing that they have developed something that struck a creative chord with so many people and that their product is something we just can't get enough of? It just may be some of the Moto-gurus themselves who prompt and post some of the modifications and changes that get us nudged into one astonishing direction or another. I can think of several helpful members here now that I would not be a bit surprised if I found that they were co-creators and architects of the Droid. Hats off and thanks to you, either way! If you guys are out there reading this thread. you guys rule!

This is not a battery life thread, in short all I wish to know is whether the Droid X battery (which stupidly only reads in 10% intervals) is reported higher or lower than its actual value?
For example, when it is at 70% reported, is it at 79% (or lower)? Or is it at 61% or higher? Obviously logic says it rounds down so it is always showing battery levels lower than it actually is (which is good because your battery is always higher than what it tells you), but it is also plausible that it ticks down (to 70%) when it actually hits 70%, then stays there until it gets down to 60%.
Not really a support question but its something I've been wondering, I assume it is the former as that makes the most sense from both a mathematical standpoint and a logical standpoint (show less battery than you really have left and you will not run out of battery when the phone goes into its battery reserve state).

Just spent 20 minutes searching for this to no avail, so sorry if answered elsewhere. I am rooted. I need a good battery app that will also read my extended battery. Maybe one that has two profiles, and accurately reads both. I'd also prefer percentages in all numbers, not just 10s, but not a deal breaker. Anything out there? The descriptions on the apps themselves are not very in-depth and don't want to keep installing and taking off.

My MBP wont read the SD card in the X. When I forst got the phone it did and all I had to do was drag drop music and it would save to the card. Now it doesnt read the card and it asks for two options, "eject" or "ignore". I did do a phone reset, and nothing happened, probably made it worse.

I need to store data to use in my android program. Here are the details about the data: There will be one table. Each "row" of data will have a unique INT identifier. Other then that field, there will be four other INT fields and a text field. The string field will probably be a 2 or 3 sentences long. Each of the 4 INT fields will correspond to the ID of other rows.

I keep getting messages in my hotmail in box saying that I have new mail when in fact I have already read the email. This seems to happen every time I delete mail when I go to hotmail on the web. For instance, I just deleted 1 email on the web then a few minutes later my phone is saying I have 7 unread messages from last week that I already read and kept on the phone.

If you opened this up, you know what this is. Trying to rename the .zip to disable OTA and Root Explorer says that it's "read only". I am half tempted to just delete the file, but needed to ask first.

Would it be possible to disable the syncing of "read" status between my phone and my gmail inbox? On my blackberry, when an email was pushed, I would read it, but it wouldn't be marked as read in my inbox itself. I liked that because then I would know I had to address the email when I was next at a computer. I don't always have time to send a reply from my phone right when I get an email, but I like being able to look at it on my phone without it getting marked as "read" everywhere.
Is my only option to add a gmail account via POP3 instead of IMAP? I tried that and didn't like it because then none of my gmail filters work, and messages that would normally just be archived end up getting forwarded via POP. I dealt with that on the BB by setting up filters on the BIS side, but I can't do that here if I just tell the droid to just fetch all the email via POP as it comes in. Is there any way to keep the filters in place but not have read status synced?

Its about time I am running UD 1.0.0. Great rom, but would like to get a different theme for task bar. The text in it I get when I get a text message is too dark to read, plus just want to try different themes. Any ideas on where to get these? Also, any tips on OC & UC would be appreciated or any tips in general.

I have a few gmail accounts on my Droid and that work fine, but my msn email that I added has a problem. If I get messages and don't open them, then 15 minutes later I get a notification of new mail, but when I check there's nothing new. So then I tried marking messages read to prevent this but some of the messages revert to unread on their own then renotify me as if I have new messages. So I either have to open them or delete them to stop getting false notifications.
Anyone else have this issue, any settings I can change that will fix this? Nobody has access to this email account except me so I know it's not a matter of someone marking unread from the desktop.
