Motorola Droid :: TwonkyServer Mobile Serves Phone's Pics - Videos & Music To DLNA Clients
Jan 7, 2010
This app is sooo cool! My Droid is now a DLNA Server. I am streaming my Droid's music, pics and video to my home network's DLNA Clients: PS3, PCs, and WD TV Live. TwonkyMedia Goes Mobile with Android Launch at CES:

I downloaded and installed from the Android Market. When you first start the app, it scans your phone for media. I turned on my Droid's Wifi. The TwonkyServer Mobile was immediately visible to any DLNA or UPnP client. It took 2 minutes. No setup was involved. The UI looks pretty cool too.

Anyone figured out what the magical combination is to make videos actually play on the phone from a DLNA server? I have tried Tversity and a few others changing all the settings around to find a combination that would work. Most of the settings I tried should have worked based on the formats supported on the X matching the transcode settings I had on Tversity but no luck.

Sending pics and videos to a site for sharing is pretty easy. Now this is considering you have Photobucket and You Tube. Couldn't tell you about others. Basically after setting up your accounts with them, the camera software will send the pics to them thru the "share" option. Videos require a Wi-Fi connection. The new You Tube now does HD video, so they show up in high-quality 720p. Pretty much easy as can be. Sent a 15mb video in about a minute or so. Thought that was darn good.

I am a former blackberry user and I've been trying to figure out the file system in this droid. I need to be able to do some things and I'm not sure they can be done. I have some pictures and vids that I want to keep private. I am often showing my pics and vids to people and the ones I don't want to be seen are in the same folders. I have tried to move certain pics and vids to a different place using the phone itself, but I can't figure that out.
I was hoping that when I plugged up the phone to my PC it might recognize it like it does a camera or something but it doesn't. I even installed the motorola software but that didn't do anything. If I take the card out of the phone and put it directly in my PC, I can see it that way and modify things, but when I put it back in the phone nothing is as I had changed it on the PC.

Love the new Droid X. My only problem is with the speaker. The Volume is really low when playing music, youtube videos, ringtones, etc. The original Droid speaker is much louder. Is my Droid X defective? Or is the low volume normal?

Just got my Droid 2 FedEx today, and am getting her all set up. I was using an LG Dare before. I had an micro 2GB card that had all my pictures, music, videos and contact photos (picture ID pictures).
It was easy going from an old Verizon phone to another old Verizon phone because the file structure was the same for all the SD formatted cards (MY_PIX, MY_FLIX, etc...).
In looking at the 8GB card that came w/ the Droid 2, there seems to be no such structure. There are directories, (.android_secure, Android, logs, and LOST.DIR) but I am not sure where to put my videos, pictures, etc. Any thoughts?

I have a Pioneer AVreceiver which does not support DLNA but can be connected to a router to play music from the internet, i.e. shoutcast radios. To let it play I need to enter stream IP in AVreceiver interface. I can do the same using my PC, playing mp3s with winamp chained with a shoutcast server which broadcasts to my LAN, inputing in AVreceiver the LAN IP of my PC (192.168.0.25:8000).
I have just bought a SamsungNote and I have put my mp3 collection on it and I was wondering in there's an app that can broadcast music from phone to LAN in order to be played on my AVreceiver using the phone LAN IP.

For a semester project, I had the idea to implement Windows 7's Play to infrastructure to either use a phone as the end point (the player) or to stream stuff from the phone to a Windows 7 machine. Does anybody have experience working with this API? Is this do able over a couple of weeks (prototype, just proof of concept, not end-user ready) or is it too much for a project of this scope? Note: I'm not looking for code samples, just an assessment of the feasibility of this project. If you have any documentation from MS or otherwise that would be awesome although not the crux of the question.
I discovered that the Windows 7 Play-to functionality is based on DLNA and any device supporting DLNA (I think) can be used as a destination for the Play-To context menu. However, I'm having a really difficult time finding any sort of documentation on DLNA. I'm wondering if you need to be a member of the DNLA to actually get access to the spec? Alternatively, I know DLNA is built on UPnP, it wouldn't exactly do what I want, but it would be a step in the right direction, so, to revise my question does anybody know of any open-source C/C++ or Java (preferable) libraries that would help me implement UPnP or DLNA?

Just bought this sprint samsung moment a few weeks ago, and I was wondering why I can't upload mobile pics from my phone to facebook. I have the facebook app on my phone and it does not seem to let me upload mobile pic's. In order for me to upload pic's I have to go to the mobile version of facebook and upload the pic via some email wich then post the pic for u, but the problem is it seems to post my pic's side ways.
I know lots of folks with other phones some of them crappy that just click on the photo and select upload to facebook....why can't I do that on this phone? Why does this phone not give me the option to upload from the pic? Why does the facebook app FOR android not let me upload photo's?

So Google Music App can stream to Bluetooth perfectly fine but not DLNA or over WiFi. Seems like it should be able to stream DLNA or WiFi if it can handle Bluetooth. Any technical reason why it cannot? I have only been able to get it to play over Bluetooth, Headphones or connect directly to Media device but not DLNA or WiFi the most ideal connections. With the infamous Nexus Q I believe it could connect and stream via WiFi but that is the only instance I am aware of. So outside of buying a discontinued Nexus Q our all powerful devices are crippled? Any app to accomplish this. 20,000 songs on my Google Music account and I you limit how I can play my music.

I'm very much interested in being able to send my music/audio from my phone to a DLNA renderer on my home network. There are plenty of individual apps out there to do this, such as BubbleUPnP, Twonky, etc, or even indeed the music app built in to my HTC One X. However what I'm wondering is if there's a way to have all music/audio re-directed over WiFi to a DLNA renderer?
What I'm looking for would be something similar to when you plug in headphones or connect a Bluetooth audio device: any application that plays media has the audio directed to the headphones or bluetooth connection, instead of the internal phone speaker - that's exactly what I want, but with the audio being directed over WiFi to a DLNA renderer. I'd configure the app/service/whatever to send all audio over DLNA, and then it doesn't matter whether I'm using Dogcatcher, Spotify, the built-in Music app or Google Music - all audio automatically gets directed to the DLNA renderer.
Having to use yet another app on top of the various media applications I already use is a real pain; plus I highly doubt any of the existing applications will support Spotify streams (Twonky and BubbleUPnP don't), and I had little success when experimenting with Twonky yesterday. As mentioned my built-in music app already does this so I'm already part of the way there, but I'd like it to be system-wide rather than app specific.
The DLNA renderer I'll be using will either be a standard PC running XBMC, or a headless Raspberry Pi embedded Linux computer; either way they'll both be fully UPnP/DLNA compliant.

My daughter's cell was taken away by her dad (who we don't live with), and she has all of her music and photos on it. We are trying to figure out a way to access and save/download them without having physical access to the phone. I don't know the google/gmail account associated with the phone. Is there any way to change the gmail account for that phone and then be able to access photos and music data? We just want her pictures and music, and the only thing I can figure is that without knowing the gmail account of the phone, there's no other way to get this. Also not sure if it's all saved in the google account since the music was DL'd using 3rd party music apps.

I'm not looking for a program that communicates with my computer or seedbox, I have Torrent-Fu already for that. I'm wondering if there are any decent torrent clients for Android so I can just download a torrent right over my 3G connection. Searching torrent in the Market only gets one client that costs $5 and apparently is missing key features. Are there maybe some good .apk packaged torrent clients out there not in the Market? I'd assume that Vuze (as mediocre as it is), being written in Java, could be ported fairly easily as well.

I have an HTC One running Android 4.1.2 and I want to listen to Google Play over my Yamaha DLNA receiver.
I've already tried some apps, and BubbleUPnP promises to have this feature, but it just won't play songs from the cloud.
Is there any chance to install a system-wide service that routes all the sounds of the device to the DLNA receiver? On an iPhone that works via AirPlay, there must be something like that for Android too, right?

I've used DLNA to connect my phone with my PS3 but it does not see any of the pictures or video in my phones folders. I also tried connecting to my Windows 7 PC. As of right now, I have no idea how to view my phones files using DLNA? Do I need a program? When I select share media, it connects and then nothing happens.

Here's my issue: Came from a windows mobile phone. However, one area winmo is obviously good at is exchange support. Here's what I mean:
I regularly receive and forward large attachments (PDFS - usually 10 megs or so), and the winmo phone made it easy to do so when out of the office. I'd just hit forward and away it would go. The phone would tell the exchange server to forward the mail, and it was done. The phone never actually downloaded any attachments to forward, unless of course I wanted to download it for viewing.
I've found this phone instead of just telling the exchange server to forward the message actually has to download the attachment, then resend the attachment. This is stupidity in it's fullest when working with a 10 meg attachment. Instead of taking a split second to forward something it'll take minutes to download, then minutes to upload, and obviously shorten battery life considerably. So my question is - am I missing settings, or is the installed mail application not able to do so - and are there any android mail applications that will forward attachments off an exchange server without actually downloading the attachment first?

So I take a picture with my Droid X, and it doesn't save at all.It seems to be tied to the GPS, because if I wait for the GPS to tag the photo, then it SEEMS to work MOST of the time. Thing is, I can't wait for the GPS all of the time, I just want a point and click cam. I have tried disabling the GPS and it doesn't seem to work until I reboot the phone. Anyone else having this issue, any suggestions?
