Samsung I7500 :: Keyboard Not Turning / What To Do?
Mar 31, 2010
When I rotate phone the keyboard in messages (or any screen), the keyboard doesn't turn at all.
Firmware i7500ddii3
I installed Accelerometer xyz values app... and it shows that the accelerometer is working.
What to do?
Also any way to make the apps close fully when i close them... and not use advanced task killer everytime?

There's an option to turn 3g off, but is it possible to turn gprs & edge off for when you really need to conserve the battery?

Is there a way to turn off the T9 on the Galaxy? I've tried telling it not to autocomplete words but it's still got the T9 activated by default in text messages, so I have to press the T9 button before starting every message i write. I should point out that this is with the qwerty keyboard disabled...

On i7500, is there a way of turning off or on notifications for
* Text Message
* GoogleMail
* Email (IMAP)
* Other
What I really want is a (configurable) notification sound for Text messages, and different sound for gmail/email, and be able to turn all independently on/off. I found the Generic Email (Menu->Account Settings->EmailNotifications) which can turn this on/off, but not configure the sound. Quite happy with the default, installed Text app so can this be done without having to install other apps, if not, which apps will allow me to to do this. Same was kinda asked in this thread, but no responses. http://androidforums.com/support/769-silencing-new-email-notification-but-not-text-gchat.html

I've been noticing while looking at other i7500 reviews that my keyboard layout is completely different than all the other i7500, whether in landscape or portrait mode I don't have the caps lock key, instead i have a T9 and the printed orange colour keys is what I hate most
Pls look at this pix, and tell me what can be wrong with this keyboard.
In my settings these are the steps:
Settings>Locale & text >Samsung keyboard, that's all I have, no other Keyboard available, am I missing something or what?

The Samsung Galaxy K4 firmware update includes a new virtual keyboard alternative, named "Samsung keyboard", in addition to the stardard "Android keyboard". (Sorry, I have yet to succeed in taking screen shots; I will post some if I find any.) What are your thoughts on this? There are a bunch of different layouts ("Qwerty", "12 keypad", "20 keypad"), all accessible from a popup menu. All layouts seem to be missing a shift key (relying instead of a popup selection for "abc"/"Abc"/"ABC"/"Numeric and symbols"/"Emoticons"), and there seems to be no press-for-variants feature to access characters with umlauts. You can set the keyboard language. Available languages are: Automatic (based on carrier?), English, German, Dutch, Polish, French, Czech, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese.
All layouts use T9 prediction, and the dictionary adapts to the selected language. Also, it appears that the dictionary is not shared with the Andoid user dictionary (accessible within Settings->Locale). I like that they've done it. It shows that Samsung have not completely given up support for this device, that they do have developers assigned to it. The keys are nice and large, and they've made good use of the landscape format. I don't know if they are using a context-sensitive key-enlarging-function like HTC have, but my typo rate seems to have decreased. I find the lack of a shift key very inconvenient, especially when entering passwords. Having to open a popup to enter a capital is two, three, maybe four additional taps -- they could have made much better use of long-press and off-key swipes. The lack of the press-for-variants feature means that, if you require umlauts, you must either switch to the appropriate language or, if it doesn't exist, use another keyboard. Since none of the Scandinavian languages are supported, I cannot use this keyboard.

If I were to purchase a Samsung I7500 in Norway, will it have a Norwegian version of Android? Or do all Android phones have an English GUI? My ideal setup would be English GUI with Norwegian keyboard.

The Samsung i7500 Galaxy is, except the support from Samsung itself, a great Android smartphone with a very good (the best?) price for value. It's with 11,9mm the second slimmest Android phone after Nexus One with 11,5mm (right?) and has unlike the HTC phones a flash light and build in storage of 8GB. On most sites the Galaxy is (one of) the cheapest Android phones, I wonder if it's because Samsung is cheaper or HTC/Motorola more expensive by itself?
I personally would compare the i7500 with the HTC Hero, although in my opinion the i7500 still has a much better price for value.
Is it even possible to define if and which Android phone is a low, middle, or high-end smartphone?
Sure, it also depends for what purposes you bought and use your phone, but I still wonder were the i7500 would be if 1=low and 10=high end Android phone, and if there even is a number 10? I also think that the D-Pad is a big plus and not a minus in comparison to the scroll ball from HTC.

Don't know if it's just me, but I do not seem to be able to turn off the touch/haptic feedback for the keyboard since flashing this system. Using the old 'turn it off' option has no effect. Has anyone else had this happen? I was just thinking it might speed the keyboard up a little if I could turn it off (and may help save a tiny bit of battery too).

Is is possible for me to have a keypad style keyboard when I hold the phone vertical and then switch to the qwerty keyboard when I turn it to the horizontal? If so, how do I do it? I just find that the qwerty is a bit too small for my fingers when it's squashed up in portrait mode.

Does GAOSP Froyo support live wallpapers for i7500? If yes, can you recommend some that seem to run fine without (major) slowdown? I would suspect that the CPU is too slow to run most live wallpapers, but there might be some neat ones that are good to go?

Sorry if this thread seems inconsequential but I have been rendering myselves sleepless nights over the past couple of days ( and nights ) due to my inability to choose between the above two said android phones. I like the i5700 for its zippy 800 MHz processor and that its got the 2.1 update. I like the i7500 for its 5 MP camera and flash + a larger screen to play with I would have gone in for the i7500 but have been hearing about Samsung deciding against not updating it to version 2.1 which can off course be done taking the un-official channel. Moreover the 528 Mhz processor is certainly lagging.
But still I see people in here Going after the i7500 .... Adding to it there is more threads and discussions going around on the i7500 as compared to the i5700. Am I missing something in the i7500 or is it just that i am a stupid newbie ... I have gone through many many pages of information on this thread before posting this query.

I see another thread on Locale, but it seems to be focused on it technical shortcomings. I thought a thread about how people are using this app would be helpful.
Now... I use Locale for the following:
- Turning the ringer down when I get to work (obviouse one)
- Turning GPS/Bluetooth/wifi on when I plug it in the phone (think car dock)
- Turn on Wifi when I get near my known hot spots.
- Turn off GPS/Bluetooth/wifi off and turn down brightness when my battery is low.
And the last one is a good one for me...
- I have a GV number. When I call my phone from that number, it turns the ringer volume all the way up and it turns on wifi and GPS. This is my "lost phone aid". It turns on the locating features so I can see where the phone is using iGoogle and Latitude, and I can hear the phone if it is "in the cushions" on vibrate.
Anyone else get creative with Locale?

I found that by typing on the call screen:
*#*#4636#*#* ( *#*#INFO#*#* )
display the menu:
"Phone info" and scroll down to
"Turn off radio"
and you can access some additionnal settings and it seems you can turn off GSM networks without disabling FM radio or other networks (source:
[URL]....
I try it and this is working on my Samsung Galaxy S II. But... any gadget or a small program (maybe on Market) whit which this can be done? (with simple one touch of a single icon on the screen)

I've been trying to see if i have a defective unit in that the display is taking up more battery than standby when the phone is not in use and so far my phone has turned off by itself 3 times in the past 13 hours. I had it 100% charged last night before going to bed so i unplugged it from the wall, put it on the nightstand in airplane mode, and i woke up an hour late this morning because my alarm didn't go off because my captivate turned off at some point in the night. I fired it up and it had 94% battery. So i immediately put it into standby and put it in my pocket and went to work. When i got to work i pressed the standby button and nothing happened, so i held it in and voila, the phone is turning on. So on my way to work it randomly shut down again. So now it has 90% battery so i put it on standby again and let it sit for 3 hours. I just checked on it and it had shut off again. It's now at 88% and shows Display=54%, Cell Standby=15%. I think this thing is completely whacked. Between this and the GPS not working i think i'm done. I'm definitely going to take this one back, but i'm concerned about getting a new one that's even more screwed up as it seems there are such few good working copies of this phone out there. Is there some setting that turns your phone off after a certain amount of standby time that i might have somehow mistakenly turned on? I feel like that would be a ridiculous setting to have, but it seems like there are a lot of options on this phone so ya never know.
