Motorola Droid :: Rooted Running 2.2 Rom - Update To Stock
Aug 2, 2010
The title pretty much says it all. i'm currently rooted running a 2.2 rom. if i update to the stock 2.2 this week will it do anything to my phone or will it be running as it should?
i have never got everything working quite right with this rom and would like to go back to stock (once its 2.2 anyway) and not have to worry about the hassle.

I am new to this whole droid scene and I had 2.0.1 rooted and rommed out but I am currently running stock 2.1 and wanted to know if there is any info on the progress of a new root process to root this firmware version. I really liked having the ability to control all aspects of my phone, including the nandroid recovery. I don't want to risk bricking my phone by trying to revert back to 2.0.1 using the RSD program.

I've noticed that a lot of my apps (skype mobile, email, gmail, etc) keep booting up when I don't turn them on. I know that there just checking for updates and doing there job, but I would really prefer it if I could run the updates manually and save the phone's very limited RAM.

I have SetCpu, and I seen you can only take it up to 800Mhz max. Is this because that is all the stock Rom can do? Or am I missing

Its a simple question. I don't want to know why or why not, just if you are or aren't rooted.

I have a Nexus 7 running 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, with an unlocked boot loader and rooted. Since the 4.3 versions are now officially out, I was wondering how I would update. Is there any special process? Can I just use the normal OTA update service built-in? Will doing that lose my root and unlock? If possible, I'd prefer the most risk-free method, as I don't want to mess up my Nexus.

All files needed are available on my web site: Android - whiterabbit.org unless you still need to root your phone or downgrade to 2.0.1, the files needed for that will be linked to from those guides. The purpose of installing this way is to use the original OTA updates from Google, and only modify them enough to have root access. When you are done, you will have a system that is capable of installing the next OTA (gingerbread) when it arrives. Hopefully we will be able to patch it in the same way to keep root. This is only for people who don't want to run custom roms, but still want to have root.

I'm currently rooted (Easy Root) on a stock ROM D1 (2.2 FRG01B) and I receivced an OTA update this morning - most likely FRG22D. I've made a nandroid back up and a ROM backup before I made any changes. So far, I've only removed some of the bloatware from the stock ROM - 5 or 6 programs.Do I unroot, install the update and reroot? Is it that easy? Or do I have to install one of the backups?

I was just wondering what everyone's opinion is regarding the BBV0.4 and the rooted stock FRG22. I have had BBV0.4, 928 black glass theme, running @ 1.1GHz for a while now and I have no complaints. Would it be worth it to switch to the stock rooted FRG22, or wait for the devs to put out custom ROMs based on FRG22. I know they put some nice tweaks in the custom ROMs. I'm feeling the itch to switch, but I don't want to do it for no real advantages.

I have a quick question. A friend and I were discussing whether the Droid underclocks automatically when stock.
We are both rooted and on CM nightlies, however, after experiencing some instability, he suggested bumping my lower speed limit from 250 to 500. I'm still in the process of testing if that resolves the problem.
Question:
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone could provide me with conclusive proof that the Droid does (or doesn't) underclock itself when stock (i.e. without the assistance of setCPU).
Let me rephrase my question:
Does the stock Android OS adjust the processor frequency dynamically as needed (like setCPU does). If so, to what degree (i.e. 250-550 MHZ as needed)?

Hey everyone, just rooted my wifes Droid this morning (which was on 2.1 OTA update) with the .sbf recovery via RSDlite, then I used OMJ's update.zip to install superusers. Everything went perfect, however, now I am having trouble finding a kernel that will work. Have tried P3s and jdflg's which say they are for 2.1 but neither booted.

I am now stuck at the startup m. I was rooted running 2.1 with titanium backup, clockwork recovery and tthe kousch botstrapper installed. The first thing I did with clockwork was to tell it to make a recovery file. Today I threw the bootstrapper apk folder on the sd card and had it install. then I put the fly-x rom on the sdcard in teh clockwork folder, opened the bootstrap app and told it to boot into recovery.
Once in recovery I had it apply the fly-x rom.zip and everything seemed to go fine. no dice, stuck at the logo. pulled battery tried again, same result. got back into the bootstrap launcher and told it to boot the recovery.zip file I created. all seemed to go fine. Reboot and get the same screen.

Can I still run the Un revoked without loosing the FPS update we just received last week? Is there a downside to using UnRevoked vs some other form of root? Can I still remove bloatware, etc?

Anyone know where I can get themes for a Droid running stock ESE81 (rooted). I have seen themes for stuff like aHome or Panda Home, but I don't care for those. I like using LauncherPro or ADW.Launcher, but I don't know of any themes that can be either of those and stock ESE81. would love to find a dark "glass" type theme. I would however be cool with something simple that looked like the stock theme, but had a black or dark grey status bar.

Had the dX for about a month now, still running the stock 2.1 OS and have not upgraded to froyo yet, i played with a friends phone with 2.2 OTA but he has had some issues with the phone since OTA and i am concerned about upgrading with the whole bootloader deal and not being able to do what i want with the phone. currently with the dX i have it rooted with universal androot with recovery and thats about it.
I am new to the dX and i have been reading alot, but i have a few questions because there doesnt seem to be a clear answer anyhwere on what the best route to go is. i am coming from a rooted custom rom'd and OC'd eris so i am familiar with the processes and how to modify android.
Here is what i am looking to do
Froyo
root
overclock
recovery
custom rom/theme
remove bloatware
deodex
From what i have read i have 2 options, 2.2 leak and OTA
Is there is a leaked 2.3.15 and is that the best option over the OTA ?
What does the OTA offer that the leak doesnt and vice versa
I guess once i figure out what version of 2.2 to go with i can take the rest from there. i have been looking at the team black hat app is this a good idea ?
root
deodex
koush recovery/bootstrap
nandroid
flash rom/theme
Also, after coming from sense i hate the moto dialer, personally think its terrible no easy way to just call someone wiht out dialing a million things, is there options for a custom dialer like the sense dialer ?

So can I factory reset to go to stock after I installed bootstrapper and removed bloat after rooting? The issue is that the wall charger is not working while the usb charging works. I think it may have something to do with something I removed.

This morning I received the 2.2 OTA update for my Droid. The confusing thing is that I am rooted and have 2.2 Sapphire FRG22 build running. I'm wondering if anyone else has seen this or received and update on their rooted phone? Also wondering if I should install it. The Sapphire build seems stable.

So I rooted my droid about 2 months ago. I have Bugless Beast V0.4 and I used SPRecovery. No joke, but as soon as I rooted, I got the official Froyo update from VZW. I clicked on install and it took me to recovery mode ( i think that's what it's called) and I just clicked on "reboot now" and my phone stayed rooted. Now I'm getting the Froyo update message about once a week (since then) and each time I just "reboot" the phone. Well today I got a text from VZW saying that my droid was sent the Android 2.2 update and to click for more info. What do I do and/or how do I stop the updates from coming? I love the way my droid is right now and do not want to change it.!

I rooted my Android Motorola Droid X. I've heard mixed reviews about whether or not I can upgrade when the update comes out to Froyo or if I have to set my phone back to root. I used the easy root tool to root my phone but if I need to put it back is there an easy unroot program? Or do I not need to worry about the rooting.
