I have a Nexus 7 running 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, with an unlocked boot loader and rooted. Since the 4.3 versions are now officially out, I was wondering how I would update. Is there any special process? Can I just use the normal OTA update service built-in? Will doing that lose my root and unlock? If possible, I'd prefer the most risk-free method, as I don't want to mess up my Nexus.

I recently moved and had the opportunity to view my TV-channels on my phone. However it is required to have a device who is not rooted, and I don't really want to unroot just to view tv on my phone.
Any small program, script etc. which can tell the app that the phone is unrooted, even though it is rooted? My phone is a Samsung Galaxy Nexus, running stock unlocked and unrooted JB yakju 4.2.2.
Last few weeks, get what I think is a system message (small bit of white text on black background that pops up regardless of app I'm in) that says "Device Lost." Googled and found no info.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to get a friends Nexus 7 up and running. I recently rooted it and installed the custom recovery using my Mac with this guide while the tablet was on 4.3. All was well, but then my friend was given the option to install the 4.4 Kitkat update. After the update, the tablet has been unable to boot - it simply hangs at the startup animation. I am able to enter the recovery boot loader, and enter options to restore from a .zip, however I have no way of accessing the tablet's memory from my computer to put the original operating system back on it- although I think it could be done from Terminal, I am not well versed in command prompts.

Rather than having this feature fail when it is used (and then show an appropriate error message to the user), I'd prefer an ability to silently check if root is available first, and if not,hide the respective options in the first place.

i have never got everything working quite right with this rom and would like to go back to stock (once its 2.2 anyway) and not have to worry about the hassle.

Secondly, does anyone know what kind of install it might be. Will it just be another ROM to replace the humancyborg ROM that most of us are running. My work desktop running XP won't recognise my Nexus 4 when connected via USB. Have looked through various threads to try and find the answer and subsequently tried different USB ports, different cables etc but still comes up with the "found new hardware" wizard when plugged in. The cable and phone work when plugged into my laptop running Windows 7 so guess the problem must be with the desktop setup. The phone does charge when plugged into the desktop but the device is not recognised and I therefore do not have the option to explore.

I am currently on rooted T-Mobile's ERE27. This morning I got OTA upgrade, however, when I tried to install it I got the "verification failed" message. After I restarted the phone, I looked at the SD card and found no Update.zip of any kind.
Several questions:
1) Should I wait for an OTA? Will an OTA update work on rooted Nexus?
2) If I have to do it manually, can someone please explain the steps I should take or link me to a guide that fits my state?
3) Will an upgrade, manual or OTA, wipe the phone?
I have seen the nexus 4 unroot toolkit, I have a Nexus 4 running 4.2.2, TWRP, and Franco.Kernel. i want to upgrade the Nexus 4 to 4.4 KitKat, i never had the chance to upgrade to 4.3 because i was rooted. I do not mind loosing my root, franco.kernel or twrp, i just want to be able to get the new updates that are being released from google, and OTA if possible. it is super important to me that i don't loose my apps and data.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSometimes (it's not usual, but sometimes it happens) my phone (Nexus one, CM7) runs quite slowly, and not fluent at all, just because of an app that is eating all the memory / processor. If I kill that app, problem solved.
When this happened the first time, I went to the running services section in settings, and I checked that the services listed are not ALL the running processes, so even if I kill all the services there, there are still running apps. Then, I tried to install several app killers, just to check if they kill all the running apps, but not only they don't list all the running apps, but also when killing all, there are still apps that keep running (like some games), and the only way I found to find them is checking one by one in the apps list, if they are running or not.
Is there any app to check at once ALL the running apps? I have looked for it, but all I have found are apps to do exercise ("running apps", D'oh!), and stuff like that?

It happened quite suddenly, but I don't really know why and that is not the problem. It can happen.The problem is, my tablet is rooted. Does messing with the OS void the warranty on mechanical faults clearly not associated with any software?
Also, do you think I should take it to some local mobile repair shop instead? It would most definitely ruin what is left of my warranty for good.
I used mskip's toolkit to root my device, which succeeded, but I am unable to flash a custom rom. I've tried to flash 2 different versions of paranoid android, using cwm recovery, but I get the following error :

BTW, I had no problems flashing pa to my Nexus 4&10 and loving that rom.
Somehow I managed to get my Samsung Google Nexus S 4g phone unlocked and rooted today. In the process I installed the TWRP recovery as per the particular instructions I had. I would like to install something called the Avatar ROM but they say I need the ClockworkMod recovery. Should that make a difference? if yes, where can I find it and how do I install it instead of the TWRP on the phone now?

I downloaded Eternity Warriors 2, started playing, then when I decided to play online, I can't play PVP because my device is rooted. I've tried a bunch of apps that hide root, or temporarily unroot, and this game somehow can still see it. All I can find online is Glu Mobile is doing this cuz they think a rooted device is capable of hacking their game.....even though it's server sided.
