Motorola Droid :: Radio & Podcast Apps
Nov 5, 2009
I'm looking for a radio app for the Droid, which will allow me to play FM radio station internet streams. Not looking for a music-focused app like Pandora, I'm an NPR junkie and want to be able to pick up my local NPR as well as stations from other cities. Also want a podcast player.Any have any suggestions of ones they've used and like?

Is there a podcast made for droid? Just droid or would it have to be an android podcast. If so what is out there. I like listening to podcasts, my faves are nintendo ones. But a droid or android one could be great

I have a blackberry tour and use podtrapper to download and play all my podcasts. With this app I'm able to listen to podcasts with my bluetooth headset. This is a great feature and I'm wondering will the droid allow music/podcasts to be played over bluetooth? While I'm at work I leave in my headset and nobody knows I am listening to my podcasts.

Any of you using a podcast app? I cant find a decent free one and I don't want to pay for one I wont like. The Zune Market Place was perfect for free podcasts. I just want to get Car Talk and House of Reggae!

I'd really like the ability to download my subscribed podcasts, without using a PC. I've tried "Listen" and a few others, but either it can't be done or I'm doing it wrong.

I am looking for a very good app on android mark that will allow me to view video podcast such as phonedog and Geekbrief, gadget pron and a few others that I religiously watched from my ipod touch on a nightly basis. Of course the touch had itunes which was great, the only thing it lacked was being able to save your favorites without downloading them. I know they have a few things out there on android market that seem to do this, looking for the easiest and the best.

I'm looking for two particular apps. The most important one is a podcast app where I can subscribe to an RSS feed and have it automatically download the last 10 or so podcasts that get released each day (or at least have this as a configurable option). I listen to a sports radio station every morning and I have been downloading the podcasts with iTunes for the time being and putting them on to my iPod but there has to be an app for Android that can download podcasts, right? I've got BeyondPod right now and it seems a bit clunky. I've heard good things about PodCatcher but since its a paid app, I haven't taken the dive yet. Would prefer a free one obviously but if paid is the only way to go, I'll drop the $5-$10 or whatever it is for PodCatcher. Any recommendations? Also, where are the apps for viewing sports scores. Does ESPN not have an app? They've got an iPhone app. They better jump on the Android bandwagon because we ain't going anywhere. Does anyone recommend an app for quick views of sports scores and even better, stream sports highlights. Basically, an all around sports app would be sweet!

Background: Bought an Eris several weeks back. Had AOnline Radio and DroidCumulus installed. Phone broke, got it replaced at store with another Eris. Tried to download both apps, could only find/download mms lite, a similar but inferior app by the same company. Emailed support, and their response was:"AOR, DroidCumulus are Security enabled apps.If your device is not categorized as secured as per android market, then you will not be able to see the app."Does anyone know what this means? Is there a setting that I can change? Why would one phone be security enabled and not another that should be identical?

I've done lots of searching, and I've found partial solutions, but not exactly what I'm looking for. Not sure it even exists, but I'm going to ask! Got a new Droid X last week and love it. Coming from iPhone with iTunes. I listen to podcasts for several hours most nights at work using Bluetooth headphones. My iPhone worked great for this because I would plug it in each day and it would automatically sync the newest podcasts from the list I selected. I'd like to continue using iTunes because it is very nice for auto updating and I have dozens of podcasts subscribed to already. But here's what I need to do:
1) I need a way to sync the newest 3-5 podcasts from Select podcast subscriptions. I've found an Android solution or two that will sync podcasts, but they appear to either sync All podcasts, or unplayed podcasts from All subscriptions. What I want to is what the iPhone can do: sync the most recent 3-5 podcasts from only the ones I select. I would have to delete Dozens of subscriptions to be able to sync them to my Droid if I use the current tools I discovered.
2) I need a way to play the podcasts on the Droid, knowing which ones are unplayed. I've found solutions that will allow me to play the podcasts, but I can't seem to tell which ones I've listened to. On the iPhone, there's a dot that tells you if its unplayed or not. On the Android, there's just a big list of podcasts and there's no way to tell if I listened to it or not (from what I've found).
3) This one is not a requirement, but it would be nice if I could do this wirelessly because I've had a bit of trouble consistently mounting the Droid X to my iMac. I tried TuneSync, which does wireless iTunes syncing, but again, I can't choose individual podcasts to sync, it appears to be all or nothing.
I'm not hopeful that there's a solution for this, so I'm prepared to continue using my deactivated iPhone for listening to podcasts if I have to. It'll just be a pain having to carry both the Droid X and my iPhone with me at work.

I have read http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1644/what-good-technology-podcasts-are-out-there, and other related questions, but I have not found anything Android-specific.
Does anybody listen to any such podcast? Want to recommend it?

Is it possible to keep the 3G radio off? I bought SwitchPro and turned off the radio last night but it's back on this morning. If I can't keep it off, I'll have to return SwitchPro (since I bought it specifically for that purpose).

I'm new to the whole "android" experience; coming over from Sprint using a Palm Pre. Question: I have XM on my vehicle and I have unlimited internet usage on my Droid. If I download the XM radio app to my droid, is there a fee for usage for that app? I noticed it was not in the market.
Also, I've never purchased an app before in the market. Does that get billed to your phone account or can you have it directed to a credit card?

Im streaming my radio show of choice (lex & terry app)...about 10 min goes by and it stops. I go to the phone which is hooked up to my radio and a wall charger and the 3g symbol has no activity and the program that streams my show says connection lost. Any reason why it is shutting off. I never had this problem with the eris. Just got my droid yesterday.

I've been using streamingradioguide.com to stream talk radio to my pc. You can pick a show and it will list all stations carrying it live at any particular time. Unfortunately most of the stream links are Flash. So I've searched for the station call letters in android apps and they're not there. The links from mobile stream center won't play either. Is there anything for Android that will search for call letters and play the stream?

Well, that is about the only negative I can think of...... Oh yeah, it does not have a keyboard, either
May be a tad big, but very nice device
One thing that our EVO friends touted, but could not back up (hidef video) IS possible with the X. The 45nm chipset makes a huge difference in regards to heat output. How practical it is would be another story, but still- nice device.
Is the microsd blocked by the battery on the X? I hate that.
added:
Perhaps a better way to word it for the hidef is QUALITY hidef. EVO, like all other devices that use the snapdragon, sux for hidef output, due to the 65nm chipset not handling the heat well.

For some reason, not sure if it was due to the rooting w/ kangerade latest version. But now when I am streaming pandora and the phone rings I can barely hear the people on the other end. Really scratchy, but its fine once I pull the aux cable out. I also added the new baseband that pete put out that was said to be for Froyo? Not sure if it is the new baseband, even though I get more bars in more places....(tired ass ATT slogan, even though I work there)
