Motorola Droid :: Podcasts Scheduling - Type / Custom
Nov 29, 2009
This is quick and easy. Can I get a sampling of what people are using for podcasting apps and likes/dislikes? Here is what I want to be able to do:
1. ESPN-"type" podcasts (scheduled, generally weekly, etc.)
2. Semi-"custom" podcasts (hometown newspaper podcasts, generally not scheduled)
Would preferably like something I can schedule to download at night.

Is there an app for having a text to be sent at a certain time or a certain place (using GPS)? I was curious because I need to send a text to someone at 5 AM to remind them of something. I'll be asleep, of course.
I thought I remembered reading about something at the Google Apps Innovation conference from last November or so, or an app like this.

I suppose I shouldn't have been surprised, as any number of other highly improbable things were occurring but there we were, in the car, Droid plugged into the stereo, listening to MP3's, courtesy of the Music app, when a podcast started. At first I thought it was because the damn Music app picked up my podcasts that were in a different directory. Since we were at frequent complete stops anyway (Philthydelphia traffic), I looked at the infernal device and discovered that the Median app was playing a podcast - at the same time the Music app was playing music. I don't know if you can even do that on purpose, or why you'd want to, but there we are. Without any prompting whatsoever, I was getting two audio apps at the same time.

I am wondering what the charging port type is on the droid? I just noticed that my droid car mount will slide onto my motorcycle TomTom mount. The problem is I wired my bike with the standard USB charger. The droid uses some different type of usb connector. What do they call it? Do they make an adaptor to go from the Droid connector to the standard USB connector?

I'm thinking of giving VZW another try and I'm wondering what type of in-store availability the Droid X has? Is it sold out pretty much everywhere like the EVO? I'm not an on-line buyer so in-store is the way I go!! I know Best Buy has a waiting list. Just wondering what type of supply VZW corporate stores are experiencing.

If I end up switching to the Droid, I'm sure that one of the things I will miss the most will be grabbing podcasts on the fly but, will I still be able to download podcasts through iTunes on my desktop and sync them to the droid?

Do any of you have any idea how a 1GHz processor in the Dragon will compare with the type of processor in the Droid? If the Dragon/Passion is as fast or faster than the Droid then I think that's the one I'd get. I absolutely love the Sense UI. However, I kind of like the idea of a keyboard in landscape mode so I get to use the entire screen all the time. What do you all think? Do you have any insight on the overall speed differences between these processors/phones?

Is there a way to have the led on the phone show different colors for different types of messages? This was a feature on my old BlackBerry, via an app called Berry Buzz. Didn't know if there was an app like this or a setting to change this?

It seems to REALLY "hang up" sometimes. Like I try touching to type in text, and it will take FOREVER sometimes to pull up the virtual keyboard. And multiple touches at times. Other than that, it's force closing my apps a LOT. iMusic, Messaging, Facebook... all force close regular. Tried removing apps, no change.

new to Droid here and loving it. Much better then the Eris in my mind. One quick question: when I try to check my voice mail and it ask me to type in password and hit pound button for some reason when I hit dial pad it flashes on and off and doesn't let me keep it on to punch in my password. Any thoughts on how I can fix that. When I notice I have a voice mail I swipe the notification bar and dial voice mail that way.

This is driving me nuts! Ive had my phone for a week and all of a sudden today it makes the worst clicking sounds when I type anything. It literally sounds like a typewriter.
I have Settings>Sound & Display>Audible selection "unchecked" and I still get this.
Can anyone help me figure out how to turn this off?
Ok I found it and boy did I have to do some digging. settings>applications>running services>android keyboard>Sound on Keypress = Uncheck.

I have found this forum very helpful, but can't find my issue anywhere. I just recently switched to the Droid X from an Omnia i910 (verizon) and love it! I used SMS Exporter (WM) and SMSBackup (android) to copy all of my SMS over. It worked perfectly; however, when i view a conversation my text box displays "A valid address is required to send this message". I am unable to type anything to text. If I open a new message and send it to the same contact, it updates in the conversation. When I open the conversation the error is still there.
I used the method from: here to do the SMS transfer.
I have also verified that all my contact names match up, and this issue effects all of my messages.

My blackberry allowed me to program when my phone would shut off in the evening and turn on in the morning. Is there anything similar?
My wife has a habit of forgetting to lower the volume on her phone at night so we hear her reminders and such all night long (or at least until I get up and silence her phone)

I thought this thread might be a good way for developers to see the type of apps that people want, and hopefully write them.
I would like an app that shows me on a map which cell tower my phone is using, signal strength, etc.

My internet package is capped but has unlimited usage between 2am to 8am. I have an internet stick (MK808B) running rooted jelly bean connected to my TV that I want to use as an overnight torrent client, but am having no luck finding a solution to the scheduling problem.
I've looked for an android torrent client with a scheduler or a firewall application that can block an app during specific times of day, but have found neither.

I updated my app to use the "new" startForeground() method of Service. Now beta testers are complaining about the foreground app going slow. Is that a coincidence or does startForeground() mess with the thread's prio or does anything else but what is written below? Just as an additional information the background activity does some syncing, reports the progress to the notification using remote views and as it is not latency dependent I use (and did that before already) this: Process.setThreadPriority(Process.THREAD_PRIORITY_LOWEST);
Should I use another Priority? And if it makes any difference, how does that play with Android 1.5 devices?

I'm trying to find the "correct" way to do the following:
I have an activity with a button that starts a repeating task in the background. That is, if the user goes away from my activity, I want my task to still be scheduled and executed every x minutes. I want a status TextView to be displayed on the activity, and if the task happens to start executing while my activity is showing, the TextView should be updated so the user can be aware of what's going on. So basically, is there a way to start a scheduled background repeating task and be notified when it is executed? From what I saw in the sample applications, I understand I'm supposed to use AlarmManager and a Service but I'm not sure about the notification part.

I have a class that extends Application. In the class I make a call to AlarmManager and pass in an intent. As scheduled my EventReceiver class, that extends BroadcastReceiver, processes the call in the onReceive method. How would I call the intent again from the onReceive method to schedule another event?
