View 1 RepliesI tried it and it works so far.
Dev = ne0fhyk from XDA.
From the XDA forum: Link to app page = [APP][ROOT/Keyboard] Keyboard Manager - Dual keyboard: Portrait/landscape switch - xda-developers
Verbage:
Keyboard Manager allows you to customize what keyboard (input method) appear on input based on your phone orientation.
It displays the keyboards you have enabled on your android device, and let you select one per orientation (landscape/portrait).
As your phone switch orientation, the app automatically switch the keyboard.
Requirements:
- Rooted android device (app was tested on Samsung captivate 2.1)
- Root Explorer app, or similar app that allows you to edit the permissions of a file.
To install:
1- Download the app (KeyboardManager.apk) on your device sdcard.
2- Using Root Explorer, move the apk file to /system/app
3- Using Root Explorer, edit the file permissions like below:
-- User: 'Read/Write' checked
--Group: 'Read' checked
--Others: 'Read' checked
4- Exit Root Explorer
The app should be visible in your launcher as 'Keyboard Manager'
Update:
- Added option to disable notification icon
-' start on boot' feature is disabled because it's not yet complete and tested... Sorry for the confusion
Bugs:
-On certain applications (i.e: Messaging on Samsung Captivate), the input window occasionally freeze on orientation switch. Exiting the app, and resuming should fix it.
The app is still in development.
Is there an app that would let me have one sound for SMS and another for email? I don't want them to have the same sound.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am currently using the default 'Droid' sound for my incoming emails and SMS messages. I would prefer to have a different sound for my emails than my SMS messages, but I cannot find anywhere to do this. Under 'settings', 'notification ringtone', Droid is set as the sound.
Is this where the email and SMS incoming notifications are set? And can you use different ringtones for these?
I used to have a motorola droid and one of the features that I really liked on the unlock screen there was a silent feature which is still there on my droid x where I could put the phone in silent mode. That's great but I want a vibrate option also. On my droid I could login and use the volume down key and the volume would go down on the ringer and then it would go into vibrate all mode, and then silent mode. On my droid x it goes straight into silent mode without a vibrate all mode. Where is my vibrate all mode? I want it back!

View 2 Replies View RelatedUp til now I've only loaded Fab's themed ROMs that have the kernels baked in. I'm getting ready to try Bugless Beast .8 with a smoked glass theme and AdamZ Kernel. Both the theme and ROM are .zip files. The Kernel is a .img. Do they all flash thru clockwork the same as one of Fab's ROMs? Do I need to do anything with that kernel.img file (rename, unpack, whatever)? Of course, beforehand I'll do a full format of boot, sys, cache, and, data...
View 3 Replies View RelatedJust curious, it's taking some serious getting used to this phone but I have a question about the messages box. Why is it that I have an separate icon for GMAIL, EMAIL , and MESSAGES? Why is Gmail separate from the "email" icon? and why can't I have my email and gmail as an icon in my messages box which currently houses the universal inbox, facebook, and twitter, and text messaging?
View 13 Replies View RelatedI want to find an easy way to just have the phone silent except SMS messages while I'm sleeping. I have tried different profile applications but it looks like they just generically turn off "notifications" which looks like both email and SMS notifications. I know I can go in and manually silence the email and the other notifications each time but I wanted to find an easier way. I get important SMS messages from work at all hours but thats all I want to hear.

View 3 Replies View RelatedIs there any way to separate alerts for text messages and email? I've called Verizon Support and looked for apps without success. I don't care when I get an email but I have missed several texts because the alert tone is the same and I just ignored it thinking it was more unimportant email.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI was exploring the option of using the 2.1 keyboard on my 2.2 updated X, because the 2.1 has the double. For, and i REALLY missed it. So i uninstalled the 2.2 multitouch, and installed a "ported" copy of the droid X 2.1 keyboard. But it would not install - so i figured the system keyboard was preventing it. I used titanium to make a backup, and then uninstalled the 2.2 keyboard, and used files to install the port. Worked ok, except that the listing in keyboards showed up under the wii mote ime. and when you added sound it would quickly FC. I can type with it, but the letters are very small.
Fine, I saw a spot that had the "offical" 2.1 last night in the bloatware thread. Same problems. Keys are small and FC's on volume. So I reboot the phone to solve it, and nothing still issues. Since then I decided I would let someone who knows what they are doing work this out, but until then, I cant get the 2.2 back on. I have the file saved on the SD card. Ive used supermanager to place it back into the system/app/latinime.apk location but after a reboot, now I have no keyboards (except the wiimoteime). I tried installing it with super manager, but that doesn't really do anything, and when i try installing it from "files" it says "Application not installed".
I keep hearing about the Better Keyboard app and would like to try it out...but how in the heck do you find it in the Marketplace?
I search for "Better Keyboard"...but all I get is 1000 skins and an "Even Better Keyboard" app...
Making separate service app and separate activity app. swapnil kamble

Is it possible to set the location of the widgets so that they are in different spots depending on whether you are in landscape mode or not?

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy keyboard on my droid is like becoming less sticky. Like it seems like the adhesive underneath the buttons isn't working so the buttons make a noise every time I push them. I was wondering if this happened to anyone else or if my phone is just messed up because I wasn't sure if its even worth it to get a new one or if it'll just happen again.
View 9 Replies View RelatedHas anyone had any problems with the droid's pull-out keyboard repeating certain letters? At first I thought it was just a user error, but over the last few weeks it's been getting more and more apparent. e.g. While trying to type "inside" it will instead type "inside" or instead of "tomorrow" it will type "tomorrow".
View 13 Replies View RelatedI never use my physical keyboard. I would like a slim case to protect my phone and i don't care if the KB doesn't slide out at all. i would actually prefer it stay closed. Hard plastic or a soft silicone is ok with me. i have the soft rubber case around my work BB and it works perfect. I would love something like that for my droid. And i want one that doesn't raise too much over the screen. a coworker has a hard case for his iphone and it makes it hard to hit the touch screen on the borders. the case sits so high you have to put your finger or thumb almost verticle to touch the on screen keyboard.

Mose sliders will unlock when you do so, was sad that the droid doesn't .

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am looking for a case that will prevent the keyboard from sliding out. I know I will more than likely not find what I am looking for because the slide out keyboard is a selling point for this phone, but mine keeps sliding out in my pocket and I am concerned that the open portion of the keyboard might bend, flex or crack if it is bent the wrong way. Maybe I am being paranoid, but it never hurts to be preventative

View 6 Replies View RelatedWhat do you guys think about having a special setting for the droid in snesoid(or any emulator). The setting would let you hold the phone "upside down" while the keyboard is out(make the screen the screen show upside down as well of course). That way its the tradional.dpad on left and buttons on right. I sent this to the programmer.but no luck. I dont think it would be too hard to keep your hands away from the screen and still play comfortably.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhat a brilliant piece of technology the 'Galaxy s' is. All the technology & design imaginable to make the phone slick. Except not quite because designers all too often forget the ABC of ergonomics which are at least as important to design as the high tech aspects of the device. Instead the Galaxy designers have managed to create something almost as irritating as the Iphone which I sold on Ebay within a week of owning & went back my N95. Within 1 minute of getting my Galaxy out of the box & starting it up I found my blood pressure rising as I found myself having to swipe the virtuel unlock key every 15 seconds.
I'm thinking I don't believe it. They are whiz kids at high tech yet they seem unable to design simple things. There's no option to adjust the auto phone lock time ! The only work round is to set a longer screen timeout which then hammers the battery ! On my Nokia N95 there are separate options for auto keypad lock time & also for screen timeout. Unbelievable that Samsung don't give the option to set these two things on the Galaxy independent of one another! Does anyone know an app to set auto screen lock time
