So i have my contacts in my phone, fine and dandy, when i first got my phone i accidently synched facebook contacts with my phone, meaning every person on my facebook with a phone # on their fb was imported into my phone, you know as well as i do, 90% of our fb friends arent phone contact friends, so i unsynched fb..now the issue im having is this. If i go into messaging, and in the To: feild i start to type a persons name in my contact to text them, for some people it doesnt show up, altho if u go into my contacts their name is clearly there. The other issue, is when i start to type names, it still brings up peoples names and numbers from FB altho their contact isnt saved in my phone..so everytime i wanna text someone i hasve to goto contacts, find them, clickhold and select text contact..kind of annoying for mass texts ect....

I was testing some apps that can move to the SD card. They move fine and run. After reboot i notice 2 things.
1. Icons i had on the home screen default to a generic droid icon similar to the market place icon. The apps original icon is gone.
2. Apps moved to the SD card disappear from the programs app try Is this just a bug with all 2.2 roms?

When I get a call and the 2 arrows come up(updated software) and you slide right to answer left to end, the graphic for my arrows are pointing up but I still slide over. Heres a picture in paint to illustrate what I mean. any input? It started doing this a few days ago, so like a week after the software update.

I just did a factory reset because I have tried out bunches of programs and just wanted to start fresh, I did it all the time on all my old phones(palm and winmo) with no problem. It turns out that when you do a reset, not only do you loose all your programs but the phone has to be registered to your account. I got it back up in running, wifi works and so does making phone calls, all my contacts and e-mails are synced and I thought everything was good. I went to the market and it even shows me all the apps I had installed previously, however when I tell it to install something, it just stays stuck on the "starting download.." message...........

Ive been rooted for a while. I am going to root my friends phone. Its been a while since I first rooted and was wondering if there was a new way to get ROM Manager on 2.1 OTA. IS there an easier way to get ROM Manager on the phone besides flashing the SBF file which gives you SPR recovery , then flashing a rooted ROM, then installing ROM Magager, then finally installing the ROM that you really wanted in the first place?

I bought (and rec'd on Monday) the Seidio super-honking-big extended battery. All day yesterday and today (until I could get home and swap it out), I was getting false indications of low battery that would get "fixed" upon reboot, yet 2-3 hours later it would again indicate that it's low. Here's a thread on it in the regular Droid forum:
Battery meter won't accurately read the long-life Seidio battery.I'm holding out very faint hope that a ROM junkie might now of a work around. I'm currently intending on putting a rooted 2.1 on my phone, but I'll gladly deviate to something else if it'll fix this problem.

I did a search but did not find anything directly applicable to my situation. My apologies if I missed it.My Droid is currently running Android 2.1 update 1.I had previously rooted under Android 2.0.1, but I inadvertently installed the Verizon automatic system update, which took away root privileges. (Incidentally, is there a way to disable automatic updates? Before my slip-up, I had been canceling the dialog box for over a week.)I tried the method described in this post and it seemed to work, but I can't execute "su" from the terminal emulator console. I have the superuser permissions ninja under apps, but I also had it after the forced Verizon update. I suspect this is a vestige of the previous rooting.
I would be immensely grateful if someone could direct me to instructions on how to EITHER: A) download everything necessary to revert to 2.0.1, use the root exploit, and then upgrade to a rooted version of 2.1, OR B) root my current installation of 2.1.Also, if you could recommend a good ROM with wireless tethering, that's be icing on the cake.

I'm rooted, and swap roms, backup everything pretty confidently (thanks again to Joe for helping me get in the pool).
But there are some things I don't understand. I really want to go to a 2.1 ROM. I've tried a few with verying degrees of happyness, and some of the later ones I've tried just send me through enless reboot cycles. I've tried Pete's new one (figuring if anybody put out something dependable it would be him) and though it boots up FAST and runs great, after playing around for a while it sends me through reboot cycles and freezes up.
I always follow all instructions to the "T", so it makes no sense that others are having success when I am not. Is there some other process that I have to go through that are just unspoken "common sense" steps among the more advanced users that aren't outlined in install instructions? Or am I just supposed to let the phone do it's thing for a while after installing? It just makes me nervouse when it is looping through 3-5 reboots in a row.

Wahoo first post! I've had an account for a while but have been lurking and soaking up information. I'm going to root my phone (hopefully today) but I am running Linux on all my PCs, and do not actually have a windows install. I wanted to ask if anyone knew if the ADB commands can just be run straight from a terminal window from my Linux box, since it seems ADB is just a terminal emulator on windows to be able to talk to the phone. It seems like I'm missing something though, I would think ADB would do more than that but let me know if I'm in the wrong. I'd like to root my phone from my Linux box but if i need to find a windows machine I could probably do it from work. I was trying to find some sort of tutorial for ADB on Linux but could not find anything, even installed the SDK for Linux and have access to ADB but am not sure how to get ADB to see my phone after going through the tutorials. I would not be surprised if I missed something as I can be a little dense at times.

I am able to hear everyone just fine but nobody can hear me (mic isn't working). It only works if I use speaker, but then everyone can hear my conversation. I tried rebooting, flashing different roms, removing battery but nothing solved the problem. I have recently got a refurb and I'm getting another one in the mail in 2 days, and don't want to root if it's causing problems with in-call sound. Also had flashed the froyo baseband, i don't know if this did anything cause I don't know if basebands affect the microphone?

Once I go through ALL that process on that page above would I be able to use a custom rom on my phone and such?

I'm new to the phone and not particularly computer savvy. I've been doing my homework and research about rooting and I was wondering... a friend mentioned that when Verizon releases an upgrade to Android OS 2.1 (Flan), Android will likely remove the exploit that allows for rooting. If that is the case, you will not be able to root in the future. But if I rooted now I would always be able to. He also mentioned if I rooted I would lose the ability to upgrade to 2.1 over the air and would have to download the upgrade via a computer and USB. Is this true?

I was one of those people who unrooted back to stock for the 2.1 update and I now realize that I shouldn't have done this becasue the roms were so much better. So my question is. Is anyone working on rooting the 2.1 OTA update or are they just working on new roms, etc. I just have to decide if I should wait or if I should just flash back to 2.0.1 and go from there all over again.

I rooted my phone with the help from this forum. All went well. My phone started off a stock unmolested 2.1 version with update 1 and ESE81 and in about an hour, I was wirelessly tethered to my laptop and on the internet. A lot of this was copied and pasted from Fabolous' threads, so props to him. Before you do anything, make sure to copy your contacts to your SD card and anything else you are afraid to loose. The first section won't erase anything, but second section will. Some of these steps may not be needed, but these are just the steps I took, and it worked.
These are the steps:
1.) Download SPRecovery_ESE81.sbf to your C: root directory (C:)
2.) Download md5sum
3.) Place md5sum in c:windowssystem32.....

I'm a noob but planning to root my Moto Droid using the method outlined by OMJ in All Things Root (Rooting the Droid without rsd lite up to and including FRG22D). To this point, I have downloaded and installed the Motorola Drivers and ADB Toolkit. I have verified that I can see the Droid in a CMD window with the "ADB Device" command. Before I preceed, I wanted to make sure that understand where I will be at the end. I know this is an easy question for lots of rooters but I just wanted to make sure I understand.
At the end of commands and on reboot, my phone will be rooted. I should have the Superuser icon. My data and settings will all be intact. I will have the stock ROM (FRG22D), stock recovery, stock kernal, etc. At this point, I should be able to install ROM Manager which will, in turn, allow me to install ClockworkMOD recovery. At this point, a Nandroid backup is recommended. I can also download SetCPU that will allow me to overclock the stock kernal to 800 Mhz. ROM Manager will allow me to download a custom kernal for overclocking to 1 Ghz (and higher but I plan to start with what others have recommended). Again, my data and setting are intact because I am still using the stock ROM. Any apps requiring root (i.e. WiFi teather) should work fine at this point. I can go back to stock unrooted at anytime by flashing the FRG22D stock sbf file with RSD Lite although any user data will be lost. Does this sound correct?. I know that many folks are going for the custom ROMs but I feel more comfortable with "baby steps" in that direction.
