HTC Droid Eris : Errors Installing SDK

Jul 14, 2010

I'm simply trying to download the SDK for rooting/unrooting purposes, not to develop apps with Eclipse, etc. I've downloaded the USB drivers package in the SDK, but when I right click 'My Computer,' go to 'Properties' and go to Hardware, etc, etc, I do not get a yellow exclamation or any other icon next to my phone. Yes, USB Debugging is enabled. So, without the SDK, I cannot download Amon's Recovery Image, etc.

Android : Errors Installing SDK Update In Eclipse

May 26, 2010

I recently bumped into a problem installing the latest SDK update (r6) in eclipse on Windows (7), which I ultimately "solved" and thought I would share. During the update of the SDK, the update process was trying to rename a folder (C:...android-sdk-windowsplatformsandroid-1.6) but failed to do so claiming that the folder was locked by another process. The alert window that popped up advised that on Windows this is often due to Anti Virus software monitoring the file system (or some such message). After dutifully disabling my local AV I still got the error. This prevents you from continuing with the installation and for fear of ending up with a half finished install I thought I would track down the culprit.I used ProcessExplorer (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/ sysinternals/bb896653.aspx) to find the file handle (in Process Explorer go to Find->File Handle or DLL.and type in the folder name, e.g. android-1.6).ProcessExplorer found two file handles, both of which were eclipse itself! In my case, I had ProcessExplorer force-close the handle(s), which is generally not a good idea but in this case it worked and the install was able to complete.I had some confidence that closing the handle would be OK because it seemed eclipse had a grip on a JAR file within this path, which would make some sense.I think in future it would be best to run the update outside of eclipse (ie launch the AVD manager directly), and indeed this may be in the guides for installing updates but I didn't check before I started the process.Just thought someone else may benefit from this.

Motorola Droid X :: Deodex'd - Getting Errors

Sep 30, 2010

I am on the Froyo OTA and I rooted my phone (can't find the thread I used for that). I then started with titanium backup, got that bootstrapper and did a full backup and then tried to deodex my phone from this link (xUltimate). I kept getting errors on one of the steps and ran their little utility called Test.exe and it said my phone was already deodexed. So I thought maybe that happened when I rooted the phone. I then went to try install a theme that I liked, but I got an error so I had to recover. So I tried another one that was supposed to just make the top bar dark, had to recover. I then installed this one and it worked thought the text on the bar is not white and in the thread someone else had the same issue and was told that their phone is not deodex'd. So I guess my basic question is how can I tell if I am or not?

Motorola Droid :: Errors With Mounting

Apr 4, 2010

I just flashed the new Cyanogen but I'm having trouble mounting now. Whenever I try to move a file over it gets stuck, and when my display goes to sleep it won't wake up unless I pull the battery. Is this a ROM problem or something else? It was working fine a few days ago.

Motorola Droid :: Titanium Backup Errors?

Apr 27, 2010

I was using Fab's NexTheme R2 and updated to R3 without formatting and figured it would be fine, and it was for a while but then started to get laggy. So I decided to backup my apps with titanium and update to R3 from fresh, formatting DATA, SYSTEM, and CACHE.

Well when I restored my apps not all of them did. So I verified my backups and there were errors. Luckily I had an R2 nandroid backup so I went to that and updated to R3 again as before.

But I would still like to install R3 fresh but every time I run Titanium Backup and then verify my apps they all or most atleast come up saying there was an error. I clicked the "problems?" button and busybox should be ok so idk what to do.

Motorola Droid X :: Installing App Using ADB All That Safe?

Jul 29, 2010

I'm getting my Droid X next Friday, coming from a rooted Droid. I was thinking about rooting the DX before actually activating it by doing the Android screen corner taps; mainly because I want to install Titanium Backup using ADB, so that I can go ahead and restore all of my apps without having to wait for a Market sync, and so that I don't have to go back into each app and set them up. My question (well... more like a couple questions) is installing an app using ADB all that safe?--I read somewhere it was kind of sketchy. And would it even be safe to outright bypass activation/setup to root and do this? Thanks!

Motorola Droid X :: OTA 604 Failing At 20% When Installing

Jul 28, 2010

I've been fighting this issue for the majority of the afternoon. My phone was 1-step rooted yesterday (about 4 hours after I got it from Fed Ex), but when I first had issues, I backed everything up with Titanium Backup, unrooted, and did a factory restore. The issue persisted, so I called Verizon, who pushed me over to Motorola. They don't seem to have any idea what the problem is, and unfortunately, no one around here has any in stock, so replacement isn't a viable option at the moment. So, I'm left with a couple questions:

1) Is anyone else having issues with this OTA update

2) While I didn't remove anything out of the ordinary (just what was recommended, things like the NFS, Amazon's MP3, etc.), and it appears everything has been brought back by the factory reset, could the fact it was rooted be stopping this?

3) Is there any way to manually load the update? I'm coming from a Blackberry Bold, where I was quite comfortable running leaked beta ROMs...I don't know of any way to do it any way other than OTA for this though.

Motorola Droid X :: Rooting - Installing ROM?

Oct 31, 2010

I finally decided to take the challenges of rooting my phone and so far I have more than happy with the decision. I am having a few problems where I would like your help.

Just FYI: I downloaded the 928BG theme/ROM

1) Now when I connect my phone to computer via USB, it only lets me connect vias the Charge mode...I can't access the USB storage or windows media sync or PC modes...

2) I have weather bug elite pre-installed on my phone and it gives me the current temp in black font in the taskbar. Since I downloaded the new theme, the taskbar is now black and I can't see the weather updates. I tried to switch the weather bug font to white, however when I do, the app fails to load.

3) I downloaded Titanium backup and have tried to remove some of the bloatware. I have been successful with many of the apps, however I can't remove kindle at all. If I delete the app, it still shows in application drawer.

4) I installed the Free version of ROM manager app. My question is do I have to pay for the full version to install the other ROMS such as APEX or can I install those ROMS any other ways.

After hitting okay, the phone does not reboot into any special mode, it just simply does a normal reboot. All my settings are still fine, and the root's intact; I just don't have FlyX.

Motorola Droid X :: How To Installing Froyo 2.2

Aug 20, 2010

Ok this is very simple folks. I took a trip to the root forum for some info for us common folk.

This is a LEAKED release, therefore motorola has not officially pushed it to our devices yet.

To install is easy

First download the file update.zip

update.zip

Now

1: Move update.zip to your SD card, do not put it in any folders, leave it on the root of the SD card. Do not unzip it.

2:Turn off your phone

3:Boot your phone into recovery mode. Do this by holding the home button and power button at the same time, until the motorola logo appears.

4:Use camera zoom keys to scroll down to "Apply update.zip"

5:Reboot phone

If you wish to revert back to 2.1, follow this link
