Motorola Droid :: Cord Standard Micro USB?
Nov 8, 2009
Im assuming the answer is yes, but wanted to order a longer Micro USB cord to replace the one that came with it. Way to short and makes connecting a pain. Just wanted to confirm a standard cord will do the job. Coming from a Windows Mobile Palm its a huge upgrade.

There are two parts, the circular disc that sticks to the glass and then the actual holder which suctions against the disc. Do y'all leave the holder attached at all times? Even when you get out of the car? Or do you take it on and off as you use it? I'm just wondering how secure that disc is to the glass.

With the recent short battery life issues occuring since the OTA, my phone is lucky to make it a day with minimal use. I am taking a trip in about two weeks to vegas and plan on using my phone heavily there for pictures and what not, so I wanted to pick up a spare battery to take with me. VZW online store is sold out of the standard D1 batteries currently but has D2 in stock and it shows the same stock part number. However the D2, according to the description uses 1420maH where as the D1 uses 1400maH. This is greek to me. I remember reading a post recently where the extended battery for the D2 was working well with the D1 and I was just curious if anyone knows if the same will apply for the standard battery.

I have done alot of looking around and notice that it like the other droids have a custom skin, but not terribly different from the standard. My husband has the Samsung moment which has the standard skin and I really like it. I am wondering if there a way to use the standard skin, and if so am I missing anything by doing it?

I have a micro USB charger for my Bluetoth headset (Electronics) and another for my work phone (LG). I can't seem to get the X to charge up using either??? Interestingly, if I take the iPhone charger and change the cable from the USB/30 pin to the USB/micro USB it works fine. All the chargers are rated 5V. The X on any regular USB port on any computer I've tried so far. So, if the 5V is the same for all those chargers, is then just a question of driving enough amps into the X?

Been an increasing amount of talk lately about Froyo (2.2) and how it will have flash and all that jazz. I use a non-rooted, standard ROM Droid, and I'm wondering how well it will handle all of these improvements. I assume the newer android devices with their gHz processors will do fine, but how do you think us Droid users will fair? And don't just say it can handle it. I know it will work, but how well is my question?

I manage a project where users upload JPEG images for processing. Generally the images are taken with Nikon cameras, but recently one user took images with a Droid and the client software did not recognize the Droid JPEG images for upload. The client software developer said it's because they read images written in the standard JPEG file interchange format (JFIF), and Droid JPEGs are not in this format. Why, and can this be corrected?

just venting, but i am sick of the standard "task killer" response for any problem with the droid. i have all of 4 apps installed outside of the default apps my droid comes with. i am on droid number 3 due to poor mic performance and horrible sound. my wife is on droid number 4 due to mic just cutting out in the beginning of every call. service at the store and on the phone is ridiculously bad. if you have any problem, their standard response is to make it your fault for downloading apps. on a smartphone. argh. and, by the by, i have run my phone vanilla (only default apps) and run into same problem for every call.

I am curious to know if anyone has tried attaching a keyboard, controller or remote through the Micro USB port yet. Is there any apps yet to allow this? I think I may try and order a cheap Mini USB Game Controller with a Micro USB Adapter and see if I can use it to play games through one of my Emulators. If anyone has already tried this please let me know. Being able to use this Micro USB to output video is also a question I have. If anyone has discovered anything cool with this Micro USB port feel free to share.

Verizon recommended Best Buy, I purchased this stupid @$$ micro/mini extremely short interface Scosche FlippSync but the driver isn't recognized. Anyone have an idea where I can find the micro / wall charger?

Can one of the few of you who has a Droid X let me know the orientation of the Micro USB port? I'm thinking of getting a right angle (or left angle) micro usb cable and I want to make sure I get one where the cable runs down towards the bottom of the device. I'm pretty sure that the Moto Droid and the HTC Incredible are oriented differently.

I got my DX almost two weeks ago, and immediately ordered the Motorola Car Dock. When you dock it, and it goes into car dock mode, it has a "My Location" button, which takes you to a google map with some overlayed buttons (some kind of skin, essentially). You can select "Nav" on that screen, but it does not take you to the Google Nav app, instead it opens up a dialog box, where you can enter your destination. Then it will work like Google Nav. It really stinks that if you return to the cardock home screen, to change your music or something, when you come back to the My Location> Nav, you will have to re-enter your destination.
Another huge frustration from the lack of integration with the Google Nav app, is when you use the standard Google Nav App (like set a destination, before you leave the house), and then get in the car and enter car dock mode, you can not access your current Nav through car dock mode. You can still get back to it, but you have to exit "car dock mode", and open the Google Nav App. Anyone have any solutions to this? If it were possible, the simplest thing would be to remove the "My Location" button and replace it with a shortcut to the Google Nav App. It does not appear that you can change any of the preset buttons. There is one button that you can set, but I have it set for Pandora, since I use it frequently.

Where can I find a really long cable for the Droid X? The cable that came with it is too short. On that note, what is the specific name of the USB end that plugs into the phone, just "micro"?

You know..after buy the $30.00 car adapter..and having to shelf my Blackberry USB MINI charger.. I wondered if an adapter existed that would convert it..and sure enough I found one model on EBAY for like $.99 cents each with free shipping..so I bought 5 of them...
So in case it sickens you to put up the big bucks you may want to go this route...and reuse your Mini chargers and cables...

I just received a micro hdmi an wanted to know what is the best settings for just connecting my DroidX to my tv to watch dvds? Do I skip the converting process altogether an just make sure that the video that I burned from a dvd can be played with the Droid X media gallery while connected to hdmi? I have converted some dvds (Super Troopers) for optimal playback on the Droid X but when I watch that video through HDMI it really isn't the best quality. I have used DVD Catalyst.
