Motorola Droid :: Apps Wont Download Over Just Wifi / No Service
Apr 21, 2010
So, at my work, its a complete dead zone.. there's only wifi. My co-workers with iphones and blackberries have no problem downloading apps, mine just sits there and says "starting download".

The subject says it all. Market downloads and updates fine with wifi off, hangs forever with wifi on. I've seen other threads on this but no answer. I've had this issue non-rooted, and rooted.

So I wrote a thread earlier that flash 10.1 sucks with little to no internet sucks. Which is normal but with wifi turned on at home, I couldn't watch my anime on my phone. Which was really disappointing. Are you guys having problems with the flash player or is it just me? Video was choppy or took forever to load. Plays a few seconds then loads again. So I couldn't get halfway through the episode.

I was wondering about GPS apps on the android phones. I was wondering if I were to get the 200 MB data plan for AT&T, would I be ok with Google Maps, and can I download them via wifi, and can I store them? And is the Tom-Tom app worth it?

I don't have a data plan. I only have access to wi-fi. I've read on other sites that it is possible to download apps, and updates with just wi-fi, but why can't I?
I've tried downloading free apps, and updating my old apps, but it just keeps giving me error, and saying it was unsuccessful.
I have an HTC Wildfire.

I am new to the forum. I have searched for a similar topic so apologies if this has already been tackled elsewhere. I have just purchased an unlocked HTC Desire which I should take delivery of next week. I didn't want to get tied to an 18 or 24 month contract so opted for the unlocked phone. I am interested in the 10.00 a month rolling sim card only contract with T-Mobile with Internet booster as I want the phone primarily for Internet use as I hardly make calls/texts. However, the guy said 1 gb a month wasn't enough for Android phones and that things running in the background and downloading apps is too much of a drain and uses up your quota very quickly.
Is this correct? If so, is it possible to download apps to pcs and then to the phone to save the monthly usage? I have seen posts about wifi - is is possible to download apps using Wifi to save on monthly usage?

Yesterday, I noticed that the Social Networking app was not updating. I couldn't find any setting to sync it manually, so I figured maybe a factory reset would do the trick. So....after I did the reset, I noticed that none of my apps were downloading. They all said "downloading" but nothing was happening. So I ended up just restoring from a nandroid backup I did before the reset. Im glad to say that the Social Networking is updating now, but apps are still not downloading . I went to settings/applications/market and cleared the data and rebooted. Still nothing.

I purchased a couple of apps last week, and there wasn't enough on the prepaid debit card I use for online purchases. They said pending. Once the money was there, the status went to purchased, but when I try to download either I get "download failed." The apps are Droid X/2 Overclock and Droid X Recovery Bootstrap. I've tried clearing the market cache, applying the market fix in build.prop. No dice. The phone is rooted, overclocked, and has a slightly modified build.prop (this postdates the download issue).

Long time lurker, first time poster here. As a brand new andoid fan, I've learned a lot from everyone here and now I would love to get help for my problem. I have downloaded lots of apps, but now there seems to be a problem. When I click to download, nothing happens, and then an orange triangle appears with the words "download was unsuccessful, please try again." I have tried all of the suggestions out there, removing and replacing the battery and SIM card, turning Wifi off and back on, logging out of Google Talk (although I seem to be automatically logged back in w/out doing anything), using 2G, 3G and Wifi.

My Gmail account was really messed up, so I deleted it and started from scratch, completely forgetting that all of my contacts, apps, etc were all part of that. I am fine with retrieving my contacts, my main fear is having to repurchase applications. Is there anyway I can retrieve my purchased apps on a new account without having to re-buy them?

This is news to me and I figured i would share it with my fellow Droiders. I just switched from the Eris to the Moto Droid. I figured switching would render my Eris usless because when starting up the Moto Droid, I had to go through an update orientation and had to connect the phone to a number before getting a chance to view the hoem screen. However, my Eris still works. I can not make phone calls, but I can still use it with the Wifi in my house and can play the music that is stored on the memory card. It is like an Eris Touch. I can also still get apps from the Market and update existing apps.

I am able to access the WiFi server with my DI2, but I cannot get any service. This has been happening for several weeks. My wife has the same issue with her iPhone.
For example, on my Facebook App, when I try to load the app, I get an error that says Connection Lost. When I go to Play Store to download apps, it tells me there is no connection. You get the point.
Note that on occasion, I am able to load the internet and get Google, but when I do a search, back to the error messages.
It also happens at home when we connect to our wireless network. Sometimes it works, but lately it's been unable to load.

I am trying to download mp3 files from my file server onto my Droid. Everytime I try to download a song I get the error message Download Unsuccessful. I thought it was a problem with my server but all of my computers can download from it, and I just went and got my mom's Droid ERIS to test. It could successfully download mp3 files from the server. This is ridiculous, why wouldn't my Droid be able to download these files but the ERIS can? Is this a case of Droid DOESN'T?

I'm using the latest Wifi Fix and OverClock kernel for 2.2 Froyo, but I'm still having issues randomly disconnecting from the wireless network... The wifi signal shows 0/3 bars even when sitting right in front of the router.
Froyo Overclocked Kernels includes *wifi* fix is where I got my kernel. I've been overclocking to 1200 GHz.
This is where I got my ROM (it was updated today) Download: Newer Motorola Droid Froyo Leak FRF57 | Droid Life: A Motorola Droid Blog
Even under the wireless network now, it says "Disabled, secured with 802.1x EAP"

Hi! For some reason, I got the impression that there was gonna be a new API or Service in 1.5 to easily ask the system to download a file (instead of having to do everything manually with HttpClient or URL.openConnection, and so on).
But I can't find anything in the API docs to that matter.
Does anybody know if that was added somewhere (or i it is even planned?).

Does anyone have a good example of using a service to download a file?
I am not sure whether to use remote or local and even if I was sure, I need a basic example to start with.
Basically, I want to start the service with the url of the file to downland and when the download is done end the service.
Google's example of services is filled with junk so I am not sure what is needed and what is not.
