I am taking a trip to Asia starting tomorrow. I wanted to know, does the GPS on the droid actually work globally as the name implies? And even if it does work, without service in that region google maps will most likely not work for directions, however is there a way or an app that can download maps of the region for the GPS to work off of?

I'm using BB V0.4 and maps.apk is in the system/apps folder. Ive tried removing it from there and installing through the market and it wont install. Ive tried removing and putting another Maps.apk back in the system/apps folder and it still wont work. Ive changed the permissions to make sure its like the other apps in the apps folder. It doesn't even show up anywhere on my system. I also have Fabs X theme running on top, but he doesn't theme the Maps.apk. I don't get it, whats the problem?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI am trying to download mp3 files from my file server onto my Droid. Everytime I try to download a song I get the error message Download Unsuccessful. I thought it was a problem with my server but all of my computers can download from it, and I just went and got my mom's Droid ERIS to test. It could successfully download mp3 files from the server. This is ridiculous, why wouldn't my Droid be able to download these files but the ERIS can? Is this a case of Droid DOESN'T?

Since i will hit many spots outside of tower coverage, i am wondering if there is a way to download maps and save them to my phone, so that my GPS location will not be a blue dot amidst a sea of gray boxes. Is there any way for this? Google maps and AndNav both download stuff temporarily, correct? they won't show any maps if they can't locate Edge or 3G network.

Since my phone came from mobiles.co.uk, it didn't come with Orangeworld or Orange Maps application pre-installed.
When I try to download Orange Maps application, Orange webpage tells me that my handset is not supported. Which is not true, because HTC Desire is listed as a supported handset on Orange Maps website.
When I looked at orange world > help & costs > Your technical info, my handset is being shown as "Orange SPV M2000" instead of HTC Desire. Is it possible that orange website is not recognizing HTC Desire correctly because of which it is not allowing me to download Orange Maps application?

It's a really great option, but what really annoys me is this: when I use GPS, my data connection must also be enabled in order to refresh Google Maps. And since data packets in Croatia are still pretty expensive, this is not a option for me. Anyway, the question is: is there a way to fully download Maps to your SD Card without having data connection enabled, but GPS only?

I've tested on the emulator and saw error line In the log: 01-23 16:04:28.453: ERROR/MapActivity(733): Couldn't get connection factory client But it worked fine on the emulator. Then I've signed the application and created its .apk file. I've put it on the web server downloaded and installed it on the real device (it is HTC with Verizon). But my application didn't appear google maps on the device. I've checked API key and other configuration. Everything was ok. But google maps didn't work. Have you faced to problem same as mine?

View 7 Replies View RelatedWhen i used google maps with my N96 it used to load up first and show my approximate location, so it would guess where I was to the nearest 100metres or something like that, and then when the GPS loaded up it pinpointed my exact location. Is it possible to do that with google maps for the hero?
It would make using things like "places directory" and generally getting directions with google maps a lot easier if you could check out something indoors, then it would lock down your location when you went outside and found your gps.
In my Java code I am setting the content of an ImageView to a Bitmap. However, before doing so I want to clip the Bitmap to a circular region. How would I go about this? I've been looking for some API that would let me set the alpha channel of the Bitmap to fully transparent for all pixels outside the circular region.

Google Maps shows everything you would expect from Google Maps except street view. However map view does not. It never shows streets and details, just a big blotch of gray. Does Bing affect Google apps such as Google Voice and Voice Search? How do Google Maps work when it is not de-Binged? I don't know if I'll root, but I do really want to use those apps and for the moment, would just keep Bing at first. I've read posts on how to de-Bing and am wondering if it truly works or if it just hides Bing. If I get a SF, I want to be sure I can access all the Google apps easily with 3 or less clicks. This will be my first Android, so all this stuff is new to me. Bing is what really seems to be dragging the SF down in my book as I think Android should be all about Google. I'm still looking for the deal-breaker between the SF and Dinc. I've researched it to death.

View 3 Replies View Relatedi tried the Indonesian I8160DXLH2 firmware, i agree that its fast and stable and better RAM management, the only problem I face is the modem.bin.md5 from the Indonesian ROM wont flash on my phone or my phone responded "CUSTOM Modem Binary!" , so what I've done is I extracted the modem.bin.md5 from my i8160ZLSG1(hong kong variant) and rebuild a single package .tar.md5 flashable ROM, Odin flashed the ROM perfectly, but as soon as I enter the on screen set up, my SIM card is not detected and I have no access to GSM/3G networks, bluetooth and wifi works fine, all the software part works fine, stable and fast, also, the IMEI code will not show up, unless I revert back to the Hong Kong region specific ROM. I really like the Indonesian ROM because the Hong Kong firmware had severe scrolling problems in menus and apps.
PS: my phone is rooted, my sales code(CSC) is THL.
