Motorola Droid :: After Rooting Market Seems Slower
Feb 1, 2010
Has anyone noticed after rooting that the market seems slower? ..particularly when accessing menu>downloads (to check for updates). I ask because I finally got around to rooting friday and have noticed much slower performance in the market since then.

I just finished rooting my (formerly) Orange-branded Hero with VillainRom 10.3 and I only have about 50mb of memory (maximum) and I'd like to know why! I thought this was supposed to make it quicker. My mate has a T-Mobile Hero, he just debranded his and he has 137mb free!

Just thought I would throw this out.I have been using the N1 on AT&T and p/u the Droid x on launch. Using Speedtest.net, the N1 has been giving me above 1.5 Mbps down and .8 up. OTOH, the Droid x has been .6/.3 over a span of three days.

I am running Nexbeast 1.1 so not a Froyo ROM, but I did update to the latest baseband via Pete's install on the ROM manager. Everything works great and my signal is usually 3-4 bars everywhere so it is a small improvement there.... However, I've noticed that my downloads have slowed dramatically. I used to get around 1.25Mb down or at least routinely over 1Mb, but now it's barelly 500-600k each time. I'm in different areas of town and it's not any better. Has anyone noticed this problem? The other thing is if I wanted to revert to the previous baseband (not the 3E.03P but rather 3E.01P, I believe) where do I get the file?

I couldn't wait for the OTA, so i manually updated from the droid life site. now that i am running 2.2 my phone is so slow its almost impossible to use. whenever i put the phone in standby then start up the phone to do something, it takes approx 10 seconds to repopulate the home screen and approx 20 seconds before i can swipe to a different home screen.
I am obviously not rooted, i do run live wallpaper and only have 2 widgets (beautiful home and calendar) phone ran great on 2.1

Here is my rebooting information:
Had a droid for 7 months and it was wonderful. Rebooting started one day after a few weeks of things getting slower, particularly messaging.
Rebooting continued randomly and the phone got generally slower, including internet speed.
Verizon sent replacement. Same rebooting.
Did a factory reset and didn't install any apps. Same rebooting.
Verizon sent another replacement. Same.
Removed SD card, same. Got new battery, same.
Verizon sent Eris. Used a different gmail account. Still rebooting.
My guess is that I'm getting refurbished phones with the same hardware issue that eventually developed in my new phone.

I am in a verizon store. There is a droidx and droid incredible right next to each other. I installed speedtest.net app on both. Used advanced task killer to kill background apps on both..then ran speedtest.net app.Ran the test ten times on each phone to get a good average. Droidx gets 0.50 mbps max...incredible gets 2.0 mbps nearly on every one of the ten runs I did. Why? Is this a known issue? I wanna get the phone..its in stock..but this speedtest issue is bugging me. Any explanations? Also the droid x is getting only 2 bars..the inc has full signal. Been here about an hour, and no change in signal or speedtest.live update.. I am going to drive to another verizon store right now and repeat the tests on new phones..I will run with and withouth task killer. Ill update once I get to the new verizon store.

"HTC Eris 1 Click Root App" for Erises on 2.1 is a free to try app which asks for a donation to a youth out reach program from "CTS."
I unrooted my Eris and used this app to reroot it and it worked fine with no glitches.
A nice alternative to other rooting methods for the Eris.

I've been rooted with Droid Mod forever and have never had any issues or never tried other roms it worked so I've stayed with it. Anyway I was screwing around trying to fix a problem and did a nandroid back up and and restore ( i'm clueless) Did not wipe info (that scares me) and I reflashed the rom a couple times because I kept selecting or deselecting the wrong things. Finally got everything perfect. The phone seemed to like the mini overhaul. But when I rebooted the market apk is gone. No where to be found. All my apps are there but no icon for market. Its just gone. Can I get that, download it desktop, mount, and drag to phone somewhere?

So far iv found: AppsLib - but that wont work cos it says my device is not compatible or something. SlideMe - is ok but i am looking for something better.

Greetings everyone, I rooted my moment today. After that i tired to load the market and I am getting an error msgs that says A sever error has occurred. Retry or cancel and return to the previous screen.
Any ideas? I have seen some posts on a google site saying this might be related to google checkout, however everything there is current.

I just rooted my phone yesterday using the method suggested above (xml dev or something like that).. and noticed that my weather never showed up on my home screen. then, after work, i tried to get into my Assistant Free/PageOnce app, also Market & FB.. but says network's not available..
Did i do something wrong? is tethering required after rooting to maintain network access? my texts and calls come through ok. i honestly don't remember if i received my daily agenda via e-mail or not today.

I rooted my HTC Incredible last week and installed the Virtuous ROM with froyo 2.2. I recently realized that after doing this there are a ton of apps missing from the android market. Even ones that I already have installed on my phone like Evernote and Google Sky Map. If I go to the downloads section of the market which should show the apps I have installed it shows none.
The verizon section of the market displays only three applications when I know there should be a whole lot more. What is going on? I cannot find any apps. When I search for something there is usually one or two apps that show up and are not even what I was looking for. Is this a widespread problem with the market or a side effect of rooting and upgrading to the virtuous ROM?

I've been using swype on 1.5 and then again on 2.1 OTA. I've always updated to the newest version and I recently did a factory data reset on my eris because I couldn't get messaging threads to delete. After factory reset, I downloaded swype from beta.swype.com on the eris and installed the latest version. For some reason when I use swype the blue guide line is a lot slower than it used to be to catch up to where i swipe my finger. It also has trouble when I circle on a letter to indicate that I want to use that letter twice in a word. That never works now. I tried going into the keyboard calibration settings and resetting the calibration to factory settings. I looked in the swype settings as well. I haven't made any changes them so I'm wonder why the line tracing and understanding what I'm swiping is not even close to as responsive as before.

Ive been rooted for a while. I am going to root my friends phone. Its been a while since I first rooted and was wondering if there was a new way to get ROM Manager on 2.1 OTA. IS there an easier way to get ROM Manager on the phone besides flashing the SBF file which gives you SPR recovery , then flashing a rooted ROM, then installing ROM Magager, then finally installing the ROM that you really wanted in the first place?

I bought (and rec'd on Monday) the Seidio super-honking-big extended battery. All day yesterday and today (until I could get home and swap it out), I was getting false indications of low battery that would get "fixed" upon reboot, yet 2-3 hours later it would again indicate that it's low. Here's a thread on it in the regular Droid forum:
Battery meter won't accurately read the long-life Seidio battery.I'm holding out very faint hope that a ROM junkie might now of a work around. I'm currently intending on putting a rooted 2.1 on my phone, but I'll gladly deviate to something else if it'll fix this problem.

I did a search but did not find anything directly applicable to my situation. My apologies if I missed it.My Droid is currently running Android 2.1 update 1.I had previously rooted under Android 2.0.1, but I inadvertently installed the Verizon automatic system update, which took away root privileges. (Incidentally, is there a way to disable automatic updates? Before my slip-up, I had been canceling the dialog box for over a week.)I tried the method described in this post and it seemed to work, but I can't execute "su" from the terminal emulator console. I have the superuser permissions ninja under apps, but I also had it after the forced Verizon update. I suspect this is a vestige of the previous rooting.
I would be immensely grateful if someone could direct me to instructions on how to EITHER: A) download everything necessary to revert to 2.0.1, use the root exploit, and then upgrade to a rooted version of 2.1, OR B) root my current installation of 2.1.Also, if you could recommend a good ROM with wireless tethering, that's be icing on the cake.

I'm rooted, and swap roms, backup everything pretty confidently (thanks again to Joe for helping me get in the pool).
But there are some things I don't understand. I really want to go to a 2.1 ROM. I've tried a few with verying degrees of happyness, and some of the later ones I've tried just send me through enless reboot cycles. I've tried Pete's new one (figuring if anybody put out something dependable it would be him) and though it boots up FAST and runs great, after playing around for a while it sends me through reboot cycles and freezes up.
I always follow all instructions to the "T", so it makes no sense that others are having success when I am not. Is there some other process that I have to go through that are just unspoken "common sense" steps among the more advanced users that aren't outlined in install instructions? Or am I just supposed to let the phone do it's thing for a while after installing? It just makes me nervouse when it is looping through 3-5 reboots in a row.
