Motorola Droid : 2.2 Enforce Password On Device Not Being Enforced
Aug 16, 2010
I was under the impression that droid 2.2 (FRG01B) was going to enforce "Enforce password on device" through Exchange Active Sync security policies.
Our policy on our exchange server forces mobile devices connecting to use a PIN for the device before it starts to sync emails. (Works perfectly on WinMo 5,6 and iPhone devices). You are prompted to set up a PIN.
I just received 2.2 OTA this morning and installed it. When adding my exchange account I am not forced to enable a PIN for the device.
Does anybody have this working on their Motorola Droid 2.2 yet?
I know that a newer build (FRG022) will be pushed OTA soon but from what I have read that build does not address Exchange issues.
Also - The remote wipe feature wasn't what I expected. It appears to just break the connection between the client and the server. Nothing is wiped. Any messages already synced to the phone stay on the phone.

Anyone using SetCPU to enforce underclocking profiles with their X? I'm concerned about how hot the X gets when it's charging in the car dock and using Navigation. Would downclocking the cpu to 800MHz or 600MHz when the battery is above a certain temp (45C or so) make a difference? Has anyone noticed any battery gains from using other profiles?

I have had this same problem happen twice to me on 2 different phones on 2 different Verizon accounts!
The password screen locks and when it asks for the user name and password it states invalid user name / password!
Is this a known problem since when I called and talked to both Verizon and HTC the only thing they could tell me was to do a hard reset and they weren't aware of this problem?

I have a Galaxy SII i777 4.1.2, rooted. Things were going ok after the factory reset, but I noticed that the battery was taking forever to charge and was draining extremely fast. I don't know if the fact that the telephone was running my data manager, data usage defender, battery doctor, watchdog and memory booster for one day has anything to do with this (although the battery drainage and high consumption of data was before I installed those apps and it was the reason why I did installed them this time). But today (hours after I uninstalled battery doctor, data usage defender and memory booster) the battery got quickly drained and the phone seemed dead (it didn't want to turn on and i couldn't see the icon indicating it was charging when connected). So, I inserted my sister's battery, took it out, and put my battery again. This time the phone turned on, BUT I see a message saying "enter password to use encrypted device storage." I only use four passwords for all my accounts but none of them work. I have tried different wrong passwords (as recommended) like 30 times, and nothing happens. I read somewhere that I could start ODIN, which I'm not knowledgeable of. But I don't know what to do. I pressed the power button and the volume keys, and all is showing is a green man icon and a "Downloading" message. It's been like an hour already and it keeps "downloading."
I don't remember having encrypted my phone. And if I did, I could have only used one of my four passwords.

Does enabling a lock screen password do ANYTHING to protect the device from threats? Other than someone with physical access, obviously. Would it make installing malware or exploiting a security flaw any more difficult? Assume the device in question is not rooted, if that makes any difference.

I uploaded my application to Market and then downloaded it to my phone. Now I'm unable to use debug keystore which is used by default by Eclipse ADT Plugin (Re-installation failed due to different application signatures) and when I'm trying to setup own keystore in Eclipse->Windows->Android->Build->CustomDebugKeystore, I'm unable to enter password or accept keystore and type password later. Is there anything I can do or only way do debug app on device is to uninstall market version and deal with default debug keystore?

Suppose you run a web service that accepts requests from Android devices and spits out some data. Is there any way to ensure that the request actually came from within an application on the Android handset? In other words, restrict access to all other devices - iphones, desktops, laptops, even requests through a web browser ON an android phone that didn't come from the app itself? Simply, how can I enforce that my web server ONLY responds to my Android-based app?

Change the voicemail number in the settings. E.g. if your password is 1234 put *86,,,1234#, (, is pause - you must put a pause after the # - otherwise it won't work) I have tried that advice and still cant get it to work. I have put from 1 to 4 pauses inbetween the 86 and the passcode. That still isnt working. I hear no attempt for the phone to put in the passcode.

On my Droid 1 and Fascinate, I am able to program in my Voice Dial password and long press 1 on the dialer keypad to call voicemail and have my password entered automatically.I can still enter my password in the X's Menu, Settings, Call Settings, Voicemail Settings, Voicemail Number. However, the dialer that comes up when I press the shortcut icon I have setup in my LP dock brings up the Blur dialer? Whatever it is, the voicemail password does not get entered automatically and I have to still manually enter my password.Does anyone know how to get the VM password to enter automatically, or to disable the Blur dialer and get the stock Android dialer back?

For a few real and a few imagined problems yesterday I went on-line and changed my gmail password. Then I tried to find on my X where to update the new password. After looking in what I thought was everywhere I called tech support and they said it was hard coded. I would need to "wipe" the phone and start fresh. Some words about lost data as well.
He suggested tring to get back to the original password which gmail allowed without resetting a few more times. After thinking about this though, there are more than a few good reasons to change passwords and this seems a bit on the dumb side to me.
Was he wrong or is the OS wrong to have this hard wired? Since Google runs this whole thing doesn't it seem like they should make it a tad more user friendly if that is the case?

Is there a free and reliable PIN/Password/Pattern widget out there that works with Froyo? I am talking about one you put on your main home screen and one click turns on or off your security of choice (PIN, Pattern or Password) without having to dig through several settings pages to get to it. I had one with 2.1 but now, none seems to work with Froyo.

My first Droid had problems with basic applications such as the Messaging and Phone apps resetting, so I exchanged it. Everything seemed great with the new phone, until I woke up one morning to see a screen stating that too many incorrect patterns had been attempted, and I should reset the phone by entering my Google account information. However, upon entering my information, I immediately received a message "Invalid username or password." There was no apparent attempt to even validate the information. Anyhow, I returned to the Verizon store and after the representative researched for half an hour or so, he decided to factory reset the phone. Now, this would not have been a problem, except that I purposely entered an incorrect pattern five times afterwards, to get to the "Forgot pattern" screen, and as I had suspected, it refused to accept my information. I was wondering whether this would be valid grounds to exchange my phone once again. I'm not content with having to completely erase everything on my device each time my phone gets into somebody else's hands.

I had to change the password for my Gmail account. I can't seem to figure out how to change the password on the phone. The only option I see is to reset the phone. I can't delete and reinstall the gmail account because it is the default account for the phone. I really hope I don't have to reset this thing.

I ordered a droid and should be here Tuesday. Quick question. I am coming from a BB Storm where my Road Runner (internet provider) email account worked flawlessly on the Storm. Back in the day when i had a Treo there was big work around you had to use in order to get email accounts like this to work on it.Is this the case with a Droid as well, or is it as simple as the BB storm where i just enter in my email and password in setup and it is done? The sales rep on the phone told me i would be able to get my RR emails on the droid but we all know how sales reps can be.

I upgraded to 2.2 yesterday and download was quick (<5 min) and install was equally quick.
When it rebooted to the new system it required me to establish a security code that comes on when you unlock the phone. I want to disable this function- but in the setting menu the choice to disable is there- but not able to be selected to be modified? Am I just missing something?
BTW: seems like a smart unlock as it only ask for your password if it has slept for a while (which makes me believe there is a setting somewhere that modulates the length of time after sleep that this is activated).

new to Droid here and loving it. Much better then the Eris in my mind. One quick question: when I try to check my voice mail and it ask me to type in password and hit pound button for some reason when I hit dial pad it flashes on and off and doesn't let me keep it on to punch in my password. Any thoughts on how I can fix that. When I notice I have a voice mail I swipe the notification bar and dial voice mail that way.
